Thank you. These videos are very helpful. One question, however. Where in Photo Mechanic is the setting to set colors for the folder names you are displaying?
Glad that you find the videos of value. To see the folder name on the contact sheet, you set it in Preferences. I show where to change it in my video on setting Preferences.
Hello Jeff, these are fantastic tutorials on PM and I am implementing many of your techniques using the program. What did you do with your old LR catalog? I bought PM-Plus do I just point PM at that folder so it can catalog the old photos? I'm a bit confused and PM help has not answered. Thanks
I still use Lightroom so I still have a LR catalogue. But I have added all of my images to the catalogue in Photo Mechanic. Many LR users have multiple catalogues in LR to keep the size down in the hopes of improving LR's performance. So if you are looking for images in LR, you may have to open multiple catalogues to find the images you are searching for. With MP6+'s catalogue, I can include images from all of my LR catalogues plus images that are not stored in LR. Additionally, PM6+'s search capabilities are far more powerful than LR's.
I cannot get this blummin software to import correctly, all it does is Copy the files from A to B, where I want it to just import them from A leaving them in the file structure that is there, I was hoping your videos would help but it must be something that Photo Mechanic can not do as I cannot find anyone that has done a video on this task, also, do you know of a way to just read all the keywords from the files (Mostly DNG's) and add them to whatever photo mechanic calls a database, I say this because in my trials to import all my photos that were managed by LR which I am happy with on the NAS Storage device and all in a Date Order which is is Year/Month/Day Format, but everytime that I try to import the keywords from LR I get them all flat, no structure, very annoying, thanks anyway, it was one of best that I have come across so far, but still cannot locate any that will help someone moving from LR to this software.
I have been thinking for a couple hours how to politely tell you that you do not seem to understand what Photo Mechanic does. The ingest process of PM does in fact copy the files from A to B. You want to leave the images in their original location, then do not ingest them. If you are using PM 6 Plus, then you can scan your images to add the metadata to the PM 6 Plus catalog. If you are simply using PM 5 or PM 6, there is no PM catalog to import into. PM is a file browser. In the Navigator pane in PM, point to the location that LR stores the images and you can add/modify metadata. I am not entirely sure that I understand what you are trying to do in terms of importing keywords from LR. Sounds to me like you are using the product incorrectly and do not fully understand the ingest, ITPC template nor catalog features. Camera Bits does a free Photo Mechanic 101 webinar that may help you. I do beginner and intermediate/advanced workshops as well as private 1:1 sessions but they are fee-based.
