    Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

He likes to draw cartoon characters, so I’m hoping he’ll be a professional cartoon illustrator someday. 🤞🏻 I think you draw very well, and I love your sausage dog pictures. ❤

I would suggest that you leave a small gap between your pallet boards for the deck as it will allow them to breathe and for the rain to pass through so they don't warp and rot so quickly.

    • @judyweber9855
      @judyweber9855 4 дня назад +5

Often a nail is used between the boards as a spacer to allow the rain to drain. Not such a big gap as originally in the pallets, but just enough to allow the water to drain away and keep air circulation.(it is kind of like using the spacers when placing tiles, so the spacing is even)

Hi Guys. You might be better investing in a Pick Axe or Larger Mattock to do jobs like root clearing. They would give you mechanical leverage as opposed to the risks of injuring your backs? The Pick Axe would be the best choice but is limited to uses whereas the Mattock could be more useful for other soil tilling etc. Just a thought.

This is an old rancher's trick:
Mix 50/50 diesel and used oil. I've tried it and it does repel water, plus I doubt the bugs will bother the wood.

I have to add the scene on the Sofa With the cat and Dogeo sharing the sofa until, did make me chuckle. And Frankie sat on the cool floor tiles below just chilling,Probably thinking to himself, i shall wait for them to get hot and bothered then we shall swap places, and i get the comfy Sofa again. Still suggesting that a heavy pick with ‘chisel’ end and point end would be super labour saving for many of the jobs you have to do. It would certainly help you get down under the mimosa roots so they don’t grow back so easily. Much less need to pull too.

I've decided that weeds were created to keep us humble. How self-satisfied can you be about your garden when the weeds are back in a week or so? It doesn't matter what you spray on them, they get used to it and come back stronger than ever. Truly annoying. If reincarnation is possible, I'm coming back as a cactus.
I love the expressions on the cats. It's as if to say, "Where does Diogo get all that energy?"
Putting an end to this car? You make it sound like you're going to put it out of its misery...or yours. Lol. Paint the bottom of your wooden blocks with some creosote. A good barrier for contact with the ground.

It'd be easier to loosen the roots of the mimosa before pulling them out - use an ordinary garden fork to dig out the roots & disturb the surrounding soil. Try not to cut too many roots or cut off or break mimosa babies away from the roots or you're encouraging further root growth. It's the same as pruning & the mimosa will be even more prolific. It's the roots that need to come out.
    Good luck.

If you are going to use some pallet spacers as a step, you may be better off stripping down a couple of pallets the old fashioned way. This will ensure the nails are removed, and will prevent rust stains.

Iean you could make table tops or counter tops out of those blocks. To fill in the gaps you could epoxy fill the spaces by making a frame and pour the epoxy within the frame. Same with the floor. I have seen people do beautiful things with log slices or wood slices like table tops or counter tops.

0:01 Hi Carrisa❤ Pausing at 8:19. I recently bought a product suggested from a you tube Garden Answer in USA, called Bonide Stump And Vine Killer concentrate. You are supposed to simply cut the intruding tree root, and carefully paint the concentrate on the new cut only, early in morning or late in evening, as not to harm bugs or beneficial bees, let dry, and within 4 days or so the intruding off shoot growths of that particular tree/vine will be gone. It's for off shoots of troublesome unwanted tree growth. I get alot of what they call coyote bush here. Reno, Nevada. Been waiting for cooler days to use it! Just an fyi. Also it's supposed to be safe for animals once dry.

What a good idea...I, too, am a follower of Laura's Garden Answer...she is an amazing gardener and shares so much plant info. Carrisa, you'd enjoy her videos. She gardens in Oregon, USA so a different growing zone than you, but she always shares the zone range of the flowers she's planting. Other than using an herbicide, I agree with covering to help smother the plant; some roots will still creep out, but it will make it way more manageable. Wishing you well!

You both work so hard! Those Mimosa tree roots are horrible to have to pull out? Very very much a royal pain in the butt!

Hi. I Cannot believe Renault are charging you 4000 Euros for a used gearbox. On EBAY they range from £200 to £2000 for a 2024 model Megane free delivery in UK. What model is your car? I love your channel which I have seen since day 1, you are both to be congratulated for your devoted work, always so interesting to watch. Thank you. Regards. John. from Cambridge. UK.

Lovely video, and sunsets, wow! Can’t believe it’s still 37C in the afternoon 😵‍💫. I get the feeling you’re having a long summer. We in Southern states in Oz have had a very mild winter. Not looking forward to our summer…😬. good luck with the car…can you do cost effective long leases of cars in Portugal? ( random idea, I know…). Cheers! 😊
