I live in rural Utah in a town of about 10k people… over the past two years or so we have seen a huge influx of non English speaking migrants flood into our town. There are no homes to rent, our streets are packed full of vehicles and crime is skyrocketing… makes a lot of us small town folks wonder why on earth they’re coming here. There aren’t many jobs… it’s an oil field town and with the current administration’s war on oil, work in the fields is scarce… I’m in construction and it seems as though that’s what all of them are doing. It’s bad for small business owners like me who are just trying to get by on what work is available. We are getting under-bid constantly.

About three years ago, I spent a month in Washington D.C., and while there I listened to NPR in the mornings. I vividly recall that on one of those mornings, the program anchor had on a reporter, who opened his segment by saying, "Well, we know that 90% of the illegal drugs coming into the U.S. come through the designated portals." The reason I recall this so well is that it made me think: Why didn't the reporter cite a study, a report, or a source from which that stat came? If that stat is true, why weren't we putting more officers and drug sniffing dogs at the portals? Why would there be any officers at all patrolling other portions of the border if the portals is where the action is? Why can't people who cite the 90% number see that if there was a deterring wall across most of the border, more attention could be paid to the portals? Since I heard that NPR story, I have heard the 90% statistic repeated several times. Thanks again for calling out how bogus it is.

It comes in on ships and cargo aircraft in 5 gallon buckets in products that are ostensibly benign, but from which fentanyl can be extracted or combined with other readily available ingredients to make it. Title 42 suspends all title 8 laws and authority use to deter and penalize illegal border crossing. The Right is using it to undermine legal asylum under 8 US code 1158. It also suspends 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border illegally. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border.
That leaves out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing and stops legal asylum, with few exceptions under title 42. Makes it difficult to enforce immigration laws when Republicans are fighting in court to undermine our legal enforcement. With title 42 suspending enforcement that means many immigrants recross multiple times causing apprehension numbers to be inflated. The current rate of multiple returns is about 40% of border crossers.

Unless these two men are encountered again, the agency will have no idea where they are. I work in one of the northern states, and I see illegals who came over in Texas or Arizona or California EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Not a single one of them residing at the location listed in their records. Absolute chaos.
I live in rural Utah in a town of about 10k people… over the past two years or so we have seen a huge influx of non English speaking migrants flood into our town. There are no homes to rent, our streets are packed full of vehicles and crime is skyrocketing… makes a lot of us small town folks wonder why on earth they’re coming here. There aren’t many jobs… it’s an oil field town and with the current administration’s war on oil, work in the fields is scarce… I’m in construction and it seems as though that’s what all of them are doing. It’s bad for small business owners like me who are just trying to get by on what work is available. We are getting under-bid constantly.
@@chaseblood1618 Get on a network of national contractors and find out where those workers are needed. You don't have to do that by yourself, but it is a good, productive job to deal with immigrants looking for work. The wouldn't overwhelm small towns or anywhere the aren't needed.

About three years ago, I spent a month in Washington D.C., and while there I listened to NPR in the mornings. I vividly recall that on one of those mornings, the program anchor had on a reporter, who opened his segment by saying, "Well, we know that 90% of the illegal drugs coming into the U.S. come through the designated portals." The reason I recall this so well is that it made me think: Why didn't the reporter cite a study, a report, or a source from which that stat came? If that stat is true, why weren't we putting more officers and drug sniffing dogs at the portals? Why would there be any officers at all patrolling other portions of the border if the portals is where the action is? Why can't people who cite the 90% number see that if there was a deterring wall across most of the border, more attention could be paid to the portals? Since I heard that NPR story, I have heard the 90% statistic repeated several times. Thanks again for calling out how bogus it is.

The majority of Fentanyl does not come into this country at either border. It comes in on ships and cargo aircraft in 5 gallon buckets in products that are ostensibly benign, but from which fentanyl can be extracted or combined with other readily available ingredients to make it. These arguments over fentanyl incursions at our borders are distractions designed to keep Citizens from demanding Congress and Resident Biden close the loopholes in our laws which permit "legal" fentanyl and/or fentanyl base materials. Follow the money trail, powerful people are making far to much money from the deaths and maiming of our youth. The feds will not shut-off this obscenity until Citizens rise up and demand it!!!

Senator, I want to thk you for what you do. One of your constituents told a story about how they contacted you to help them. Her husband was diagnosed with cancer, and his employer dropped his health insurance and his pension because of the sickness. They said that they contacted you and you hopped into action for them. You weren't afraid to get involved and the work you did changed the outcome for them.
