I remember hiking this section in APR '88 with 8 Boy Scouts. The weather was cold and misting. It changed to snow less than an hour later. We retraced our steps and left. I'd been up there in snow and ice. This is the roughest stretch of the AT in GA. (BTW, it snowed 2'!!!!!)

To bad about Craig having to stop but you have to do what your body dictates. It must be disappointing after all the planning. Nice views today and the music on your videos is very nice. Consideration for your fellow campers, another peek into your personality. I hope people are as considerate of you when the occasion arises. Yummy, apple fritters for your first trail magic. Hope the weather improves a little although nothing seems to discourage you. Keep safe.

Helpful hint pour water into your heating container and cover and next morning all you have to do is light your stove and it will melt your water for breakfast. Saw this in a video and it makes good sense. Stay warm!!! happy hiking peach

The cold weather has to be a huge mental challenge. It's all temporary though; soon it will be warm! I feel bad for Craig, but I think it shows you need to be prepared for this journey. You shouldn't just get off the couch and think this is going to be easy. If I didn't feel I was capable of doing 10 miles if necessary, I damn sure wouldn't start the trip. Being able to do 10 miles will most often get you to safety on the AT! Another awesome video!

I started on March 12th 2019 and the weather was the same as you are experiencing. It was really rough in the Smokies. By the time you get to Hot Springs it will be getting warmer and you can start to send some cold weather things home. For now, just hang in there! It was the hardest but most amazing thing I’ve ever done and I think about the AT every day still. That’s why I’m watching your videos. It’s been 3 years and I still stay in touch with my tramily. Hang in there!!!!

Wonderful views of the mountain ranges! The blue sky and white clouds were pretty too. I did hear the chickadee. The wind was really whipping at times You're doing great. Many adventures ahead! Safe travels.

    Great hike.
Blow over your pump sack, instead of down into it. It works with the Venturi Effect.
And it’s not only more peaceful and you have “your space “ in your tent, it is remarkably more warm than a shelter, especially when windy.
    Have fun,
    Happy Trails

Somewhere I picked this up. Keep a water bottle in your sleeping bag next to you on freezing nights to keep it in liquid form.
