F.A.Q.
What is Sakuga?
Sakuga (作画) literally means drawing in Japanese. But Sakuga also means "artistically impressive animation".
What is a Sakuga MAD?
MAD stands for Music Anime Douga (Douga means video in Japanese). It's the same as an AMV. Sakuga MADs are compilations of great animation. Кино

Hobbes Sakuga what sakuga are you gonna upload next?
I don't need no description for this. I eat, sleep and repeat this shit all year. Thnx for the video
! ^-^..♡☆.!
great taste in music btw, what a jam :)
I just love how there's someone on RUclips who makes videos only on anime's visuals.
It really is the little things in life
Japanese had a real knack for animating machinery and making it as aesthetic as possible. Shame we dont see that much in modern anime
welp because stuff like this takes a lot of time to animate compare to 3D which is not really easy but it is not time consuming,
But yeah i do agree with you that i would like to see some of this machine animation in the modern days. considering what technology we've finally advance towards.
You can see them, at the same numbers but not the same rate.
Den .D you can find that kind of sakuga in studio khara’s movies, ie the evangelion rebuilds
@@Burntdekuscrub oo. will do..
Den .D in fact there’s one scene in this exact video at 0:54
That moment when Unicron bites of a chunk from a planet... so good!
that's why i love,
nestles crunch
OH SHIT ITS MY BOY VANRIPPERR
I used to watch that movie some much as a kid even though I couldn’t remember unicron’s name I still knew it when I saw this comment
Lucifer best girl
8:05 - 8:44 is really amazing because it feels like a naval battle but it takes place in the sky.
Very good movie to watch. Laputa castle in the sky.
Old animation is arguably better than most animes nowadays. The amount of detail put into every single frame is breathtaking.
A lot of this stuff was recent stuff, lol.
@@Gustav_Kuriga I'm talking about the style. Anime isn't that old anyways.
@@JohnDoe-jg7lm I'm aware you're talking about the style. I was just telling you that the stuff in the video was much of the time recent, making your point seem a bit weird to make. And anime is older than you think.
@@Gustav_Kuriga Clips from Evangelion are already two decades old and Howl's Moving Castle is somewhere close to that. Considering that many people refer to shows released around the same time like DBZ, One Piece, and Naruto as classics, I think that calling Howl's Moving Castle and Evangelion "old" now isn't unreasonable. That put aside, this video focuses on a time when the steampunk genre was popular, which is hardly ever seen in animes nowadays; and especially not trending ones. Also, I'm well aware that anime has origins dating back to a century ago, but it has certainly changed quite a lot in over a hundred years' worth of time, for better or worse. They definitely don't make futuristic animes with as much detail as they used to.
Thank you, RUclips algorithm, for giving me exactly what I want and need. ❤️
I really appreciate the use of different animation and not just Japanese anime.
Lacky Nguyen wait, which ones weren't Japanese?
Thief and the Cobbler and the Superman 1940s shorts.
@@IronMoose95 they're pretty easy ti spot once you look for them
@@ginogatash4030 You relplied to my 1 year old comment that was already answered with this? Get off RUclips for a while
@@IronMoose95 y u gotta b so mean man?
I had forgotten I had to save this in my music library ages ago now, getting buried under everything else over the following months. So glad I found it again. I completely forgot how much I needed this. Sweet mix crossed with some of the greatest Anime films of all time.
You’re getting lost in a playlist that’s only a few months old? I’m getting lost in 5 of my playlists I’ve had since middle school
Your videos are like an endlessly rewatchable goldmine for animation in general that mixed in with the incredible editing and music.
Sakuga Machinery is one of my favorite things. You can really see the anatomy of the machine. It's great. I wonder why so many of these animators go uncredited though.
Steampunk genre
MMM YES!
My guess is they don't want to be credited. They're happy to just have their work appreciated which put's it more in the spotlight. I bet they have a kickass portfolio.
@@ardoronro6677 you sound like a character from Hollywood movies....wake up to reality lol,
...everyone isn't that humble
And not everyone follows trends. Fact of the matter, there is no one that cannot be too humble. Probably just haven't met them yet.
From obscure to mainstream you find the best animation cuts!
Okay, seriously, Your editing is way too good.
the way you edit the videos goes is artful. there really is a complete audio-visual experience. The changes in mood and tempo of the songs match well with what is going on on the screen. what you do is very precise.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for including a scene from Thief and The Cobbler. I was so excited to see the clip I literally jumped for joy.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you making this compilation with great content and thought. I want to download them all, project them and have a dance party!
I know people have already said it but thank you for using Animation from other places, not just Japan. Japan has amazing, to this day, great Animation, but we can't forget other places that have Animators from all over who are just as if not more amazing. Both 2D and 3D Animation. Again, thank you. 😊
Thank you so much, this is a gold mine of video's I want to or still need to watch!
Thank you so much for including the names! I can't thank you enough, as in these trying times I'm recovering from brain surgery and have plenty of time to watch the best series and movies.
Jake Robinson I hope you have a blessed and quick recovery.
You would not know how much this means to me at this precise moment.
You really wouldn't.
Damn this channel is a secret gem, these videos are amazing
I really like your song choices and I also really like how you put in the extra effort to write down all the name of anime used with timestamps (and animators).
Thanks for creating beautiful videos.
love you hobbes! please never stop uploading and compiling gems like these haha
Chris is that you
I really apreciate the work you put in these videos . The amazing different animations that i mostly didn't know. A BIG THANKS ! And keep the good work up please :D
Your cut timing and syncronisation are on point!
This channel can't be for real.
How are the the edits soo good?! This is nuts!
What amuses me about older futuristic based media is that while they always envision spaceships, flying cars, sentient AI, teleportation and many others, that they for some reason, even when home computers were already a thing in the 90s and stuff thought of the fact somebody might make a little device you can carry that plays music, they always have just a more futuristic looking disc or something like that lol
Just think about the effort and time that went into this . Insane bro
they sucked all the effort from american animators like wet noodles
Neo Genesis Evangelion was my favourite anime and it still is

Thanks for more a great update!
Sad to see that almost all those things are in 3D nowadays...
I don't care about 3D or CGI, I care about bad one.
but 90% is bad :
True. Sadly.
Yeah it lacks visual character, CGI just doesn"t fit
Yep.
Love that you used the Thief and the Cobbler for part of this!!
A truly wonderful mix here. Very nicely done.
just found this. full love. like you compiled a memory for me and played the best theme music over … yr on the list
Hey Hobbes! I think a great way to come back from your hiatus is to give us the SakuGOD Yutaka Nakamura sakuga video we all need. You will make the best one! Always a fan of your MAD videos.
Amazing compilation dude. Love it so much!
Is this heaven ? Cause i just discovered this channel and i'm already in love
Thanks for the information about the animation scenes
An excellent selection of songs to match with the video
damn, beautiful tribute to the animation, thank you for sharing!
So much nostalgia! Giant Robo and Escaflowne are two of my favorites.
3:16 There's something oddly satisfying about that overweight military guy with the gasmask pulling the trigger.
The sluggish body contrasting his dynamic movement somehow conveys power while in a way also giving a sense of it being undeserved or unfitting, as if subliminally underlining him as the bad guy (which I don't know if he actually is).
Is the third part of an anime movie called memories it takes place in a country at war and the guy with the gas tank is the one that shoots the cannon daily against who knows who really good movie (the 3 stories)
@@cloudsanglant7719 Thanks for letting me know the name and context! Sounds like a short story that's left somewhat ambiguous.
For those wondering as well, here's the synopsis from IMDb:
»"Memories" is made up of three separate science-fiction stories. In the first, "Magnetic Rose," four space travelers are drawn into an abandoned spaceship that contains a world created by one woman's memories. In "Stink Bomb," a young lab assistant accidentally transforms himself into a human biological weapon set on a direct course for Tôkyô. The final episode, "Cannon Fodder," depicts a day in the life of a city whose entire purpose is the firing of cannons at an unseen enemy.«
Very nice!
I like how you select the music tracks for the videos :)
I swear the music selection for these vids are top notch. Great choices.
Thanks man
2:27 omg love it
Nice compilation and wnderful chosen songs!! Lots of thanks!!
I just finished watching akira two nights ago and now im introduced to more good animation, thank you.
Bro Akira is one of my favorite movies and the second I saw he used some of the animation I just got so happy for some reason
You should to watch spriggan it's similair to akira
Watch it again
Akira had sick animation, storywise.. eeh..
Anime, jazz, funk. This is my favorite channel now

I know wat in life ive been missing now. Thanks for this video. (Also its [chain reactions])
So good !
That organic feeling contained inside traditional sakuga can't be replaced. It's just too powerful. It's a f@cking shame that animators didn't get what they deserved for their efforts.
Animation is simply something beautiful.
This is extremely relaxing to listen to.
killin it as usual
Man , throws me back in good old 90s anime realm ! Nostalgia
Would love to see some more hand to hand stuff
1:40 "Don't think you can write me off just yet. You're just a voice pal, you don't know a *damn thing* about racing!"
Redline, truly a masterpiece in music, animation and storytelling.
4:03 The anime that made me an Otaku. And also inspired me to follow animation
Perhaps if possible, you could include that bit from "Castle in the Sky" early in the movie, when the elevator is being brought up from the mine shaft? Definitely hoping for some Sherlock Hound cuts, any whatever neat cuts you decide to include. One thing I've come to realize, is that your channel is one of the best sources of high-quality Sakuga MADs out there. Whatever you cook up next, it's bound to be good!

Holy crap, the animation back in the day was sick
Dude that transformers one at the end, really blew be away, it did exactly what the Michael Bay movies did with the transformation but it's all hand drawn
