This is an absolutely brilliant format for a review. It is beautifully filmed, beautifully shot, is really nicely balanced between learning about the artist and the gear. Thanks so much for creating it
A fantastic review, I really enjoyed it but I have to watch it again. I think it is a great feature that this style of camera forces you to focus to the shooting process and keeps you closely involved in the creative process. Once you get used to it and have developed the right muscle memory I can imagine that such a camera becomes a creative extension of yourself. This is probably the reason why so many people rave about the Leica system which follows this concept since approx. 80 years.
So edgy that it got me order some vegan food, searched for "lofi bedroom music project" on spotify, I got some handpoke tattoos of plants and ancient greek busts, all the films in my fridge turned into Portra 400 and my favourite city is berlin from now on
@@emeraldsquare Spotify? Surely you're into vinyls now, and if anyone asks, you've always been, and your grandpa gave you all his vinyls or some shit (you ordered them online).
This review and introduction of the artist Kel Lauren was really interesting. One of the advantages of the M10 is that you can see the face of the photographer and not just a huge camera. All this helps in a reportage that is about people and not about technology. The M10 is certainly not the first choice for a fashion shoot, but it is for a reportage where you talk to the artist.
This was an incredible combination of flavors. I came here for the Leica review and caught myself being very interested and absolutely impressed by Kel.
The hype is not because of a cult following. It’s because Leica invented the 35mm film camera. And at one point nearly every professional photographer working in the world shot a Leica M camera.
That is exactly what a Leica teaches someone - it teaches one to slow down, to take time, and compose a shot. It teaches someone to find the focal point of one’s subject instead of relying on the camera. I’ve missed some “Moments” shooting with a Leica while doing street photography. But the ones I’ve captured while being patient for the right moments to happen, the ones I’ve been waiting for in a particular scene or setting give me the satisfaction I can never get from shooting with my 5D. A Leica makes one think and truly create. The size of the camera body and lens don’t give the feeling of invading one’s space especially when shooting portraiture. It’s wonderful how you got to shoot and experience a Leica. I truly enjoying using my M Typ 240 - essentially the first M 10. I was frustrated in the beginning for being so used to simply pointing at a subject, and having my 5D do the rest - click, click, click. But then I finally got it, realizing I truly had to be the one creating the shot. And yeah, the superb images out of the camera… they’re great.
"The sensor is huge". Well, not really, it's a standard full frame sensor size. More megapixels doesn't mean bigger sensor. And the screen on the back is not a viewfinder. A viewfinder is the thing that you look through.
As much as I like the images that turned out in this shoot. I dont see the reasoning behind not using the OVF since the M-series is pretty much made for traditional range-finder style shooter. Would have made more sense using the SL2 instead. But great work!
I thought the same, especially as she spoke a few times about how the range finder slowed her down...but she wasn’t using the range finder, she was using the OVF.. Not a hater though...great vid!
I hear you but whatever gets the job done is the thing that matters here. As she said, this was the first time she'd ever used a Leica and there was a job to be done. She got it done and the photos look great.
Thanks for sharing your first time Leica 10R shoot with us. Did you add the vignetting to your images on post-production or does the 10R do that routinely?
Truly, this channel puts out some of the best and meaningful content. This is true photography from true artists... not gear specs RUclips salespeople. Thanks for this channel!
this docu style camera review is awesome. we get to know the person and also the camera in one video. pls keep doing this. Taylor, it never stops how u amaze me with your art. 💜
I loved this. The impression I got from watching this video is "Yes, if you want to spend $6500 on a camera, this would be a good spend. However, it's not necessary and the same images could be acquired from a more "normal" priced camera." Thanks for sharing!
Having used the M10-R, as well as “more normal priced cameras” I can tell you that the shots coming out of more “normal” cameras may be similar, but the most definitely will not be the same.
Cool to hear someone talk about having synesthesia, I have that too. Mine is spatial-sequence synesthesia, but still it’s cool to hear about something that I rarely hear people talk about having, and using it for their art, as I do as well.
Lol agree...as a long time albeit much older Leica lover owner, I was looking for some actual useful user feedback on the new "r"... So "groan" on so many levels that I'd rather watch Ramen wriggle!
@Moment should really do one of these profiles just about you and your backstory. That would be great! Such an interesting person with their own unique outlook. You have a real authenticity about you and a grace that I find both calming and fascinating at the same time. Cheers to you and the crew ;)
Using a Leica M and than only shoots with the back screen 🙈🙈 the hole point of this system IS the RF, other cameras have better sensors and you can adapt M lenses to almost every system...
Yes but it's her first time with the camera and she needed to get the project done. Considering that Moment was born from iPhone photography, it makes sense to shoot a camera this way if that's what one has done thousands of times. Whatever works. Even Alan Schaller uses the screen on the back and he's the most celebrated Leica Monochrom shooter in the world today.
And people wonder why Leica fanboys get made fun of. You guys need to chill the hell out. You didn't get selected to shoot this story. I would love to own a Leica one day, but be damned if I want this vibe in my life
But did you enjoy... slowing down? lol :) I feel like I'm crafting a photograph when using a rangefinder like Kel ...instead of just pushing the button. Best non camera review camera review...lol! love this style...Nice video, keep it up. Thanks
I stole (I.e bought) The I Pet The Dogs t shirt after Taylor wore it one video and I constantly get compliments on it, so thanks. Also dope pics and Kel sounds AWESOME!
cool review, rangefinders definitely need some getting used to, but once you’ve practiced a bit they surprisingly feel more precise and fast (manual focusing of course)

Really enjoyed your video. May I know what is the exact color name of the yellowish background you have in the studio. Thank you

Yeah -I feel like she kinda lost the “fun” of shooting with a Leica with all the chimping/live view

Sadly no :( Taylor is going to upload on her website or Instagram soon though. @trmpendleton
How much or little editing did you do for the image taken here? Would love to see your creative post processing also 😊
she edited plenty. Leica does not create flat photos or washed out/grey shadows. Looks like its been put through VSCO with fade filters etc.
