I love this method for drawers, so much better than the tedium of a locking rabbet, going to have to try this next time! Always great to see "other" methods of construction.
Awesome book that gives you step-by-step photos ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt and directions to make every day project. I can see myself making a few of these projects and giving them as housewarming and holiday gifts!
As a joiner I have made lots of cabinets but here in the uk 🇬🇧 we use a lot of chip board which I think is rubbish I like the way you chaps use plywood which if want you can laminate it both sides and your pocket joints great too we rebate are chip board which when glued and screwed good and strong 💪 nice jig for the draw runners nice job 👍👏👏
I'm excited for the day when you get good enough to just glance at a stack of lumber and create something without even touching it. I'm sure you will get better Jon, keep up the good work.
Im new to your channel, and want drawers just like this in my kitchen. I live in an old mobile home that needs serious updating. Thanks for showing us how to do this.
Love the video and all your work. You're the gold standard of woodworking professionals. I was wondering when making bottom drawers with the slides in the middle of the inside of the cabinet and middle of the drawer is there danger that the drawer slide will scrap the bottom of the cabinet? If you can answer this question or if someone else would like to answer that would be great.
Not sure why I never thought of flushing walls to inside of frame opening. So easy for the track installation. Also, your method of adding the taper on the frame makes good scene to me. I can see the installation advantage there. As always, thanks for sharing.
Tom Pritchard it’s been done this way by professionals for years. It’s convenient and efficient but you must have a square cut floor in the cabinet. There is no forgiveness if the cabinet is out of square.
Thank you for sharing your professional tips. How do you call the two pieces of hardware on both sides between the large drawer front and the metal box, I think it's not called hinges , thanks!
OK I think I'm ready to give it a try but amd going to start with cabinets for my workshop, before making some for the cottage. Make the mistakes where they won't be seen before doing the work that should be nice.
Jon like the way you do the cabinets. What's the difference between high end kitchens and budget kitchens, besides the bench tops. I am about to start building a new kitchen in our house copying the measurements of the existing cabinets. We will then sell and build our new home. I would like to use the practice, to build all the cabinets of the new home.
Great video. I’ve got a question regarding the front panel that connects to the facade. How do you screw it on? Does the handle screws really keep that drawer front panel together? My kitchen guy put a bunch of little double stick tape on the front to hold it together. He said it’s the handle screws that keep them held together. I think he’s full of crap and is trying to screw us. What say you guys? Do you have a video on this question? Thanks 🙏🏽
Nice cabinet, I also do the drawers in the same manner, it saves so much time and I have never had a failure. Sometimes I think people believe that because you put more time and make these fancy joints that there going to last so much longer.
Jon, huge fan and looking to learn. One question I have is why did you opt for biscuits for the bottom rather than just continue with pocket screws? Thanks and please keep doing what you do,
When your a woman but instead of watching makeup tutorial videos, you watch these kinds of videos about home improvement projects & electronics coz you find it relaxing. 😂
Always like the videos !! Even the ones I already seen after watching u it inspires me to do cabinets .. oh wait plywood is ridiculously expensive at the moment well I'll put those cabinets on the back burner for now..
So, OK I fast forwarded to the drawer slide fitting. A stick is used to set placement of the runners; alright - but just how and why does the drawer side fitting need to be in the centre of the drawer side? How does it relate to the stick length? Did I miss that bit?
Awesome video, this answered so many questions. I'm still having a problem though with the slide not sliding easily. It's as if the opening is too narrow, but if I open it up by even 1/32" though, then it's too wide and the slide pops out on one side or the other. What am I doing wrong here?
What is the name of the tool which was fitted on the pocket hole jig and the table - at 2:51 that you used to hold the board. Something like hydraulic clamp?
Hello Jon. Thanks for all your great info. I am falling into the woodworking rabbit hole. I am a cement mason by trade. Is it easier to build face frames first and then build your box based from there or was this just a specialty case.
Nice looking work but isn’t it possible to rebate the sides of the drawer sides to receive the front. It can be screwed through the fronts into the rebate then no visible screws when opening the drawers which ruins the finish in my opinion
Now I understand when people say they could've make same as store bought furniture better and For less. Its because they dont account for the thousands invested in all the tooling, equipment, space and experience.
Jon thanks for the videos. I can’t find Garnica Plywood at my home center. Their website is not based in the US. Would please let us know how you get their plywood I want to use it for my projects.
I think using pocket hole screws for the face frame is perfectly acceptable because there little stress on the face frame and it eliminates complexity. I do like using dominoes or dowels (Jon uses bisquits which is good as well I just don't have a bisquit joiner). If you use dominoes, you can eliminate the screws altogether. I like that Garnica HDF, unfortunately, its not sold in very many places, at least the last time I checked a year ago.
Normally the drawer slides are 1/2 inch in thickness each so just to be safe extract from the opening 1 1/16 one inch and a sixteen and that's your drawer width
What's an inch? Is it like what the Roman legions used to march in a day? Or the units used by the ancient Greeks to measure the dimensions of the Parthenon?
Another great video. The confusing part for me is you used a line for the bottom of the cabinet side slide, but used a centerline for the drawer side slide. Can anyone explain this procedure?
It's the exact center of both pieces, regardless of how he measured it. It's probably easier and more accurate to fit that 6" measuring piece in there then try to stuff the tape in there.
Would it be easy for a cabinet maker to design the pull out drawers they used to have on Helm's Donut trucks? I like the way they used to pull out the drawers and display their donuts but my idea was to apply it to a locksmith van so I can display my locks.
I've done it both ways, the advantage to the frame first approach is that it serves as a verified custom ruler, then you make the carcass to fit it, otherwise you must story stick the whole project first and derive a cutlist from it and hope you're as accurate as you think you are when the whole comes together- which can be done by the way, but only after considerable experience. I had written a bit of code In a spreadsheet that allowed me to simply put in a few parameters and it would spit out a cutlist that reflected the way I liked to build my cabinets. As a onetime (now retired) sole proprietor custom cabinet and furniture maker I had developed a repertoire of methods and techniques that consistently worked well for me over the years and my own set of standards that I relied on- most pros do the same in one form or another, i.e. patterns & templates hanging on the wall, etc.

Kung titingnan prang madaling tingnan pero sa actual ay mhirap din yan lalo na sa mga measurements. Dpat dka magkamali. Perfect

The accuracy, easy way you do stuff is enviable. I know you've been doing this for over 20 years, but still, you are an inspiration 🤘
Ive watched your work its outstanding may God continue to bless you 🙏🙏👍👍
This was amazing. You're so precise it is incredible.

I use spacers works really well no marking. Same thing for drawer slides if you don't have a jig.
Wow. Proper tools, etc...... Great video!

You make it look easy ! Having the right equipment helps so much
I like that biscuit trick for aligning things.
fantastic instructions. I have tried to build a few and lotsa of struggles, this helps a bunch. Many Thanks!!

Awesome work, sir! More power to you! Can't wait to see your other videos.
Cool and simple great job
That’s a different approach to building a cabinet. I like it
HOLD THE TRAIN! I watched 6 times. HOW did you free-hand that straight line at 5:56? WOW!!!!
Thanks Jake. Figured this must have been it. Still though, super impressive and skillful
Hi all , I’m still working on the plans I’ll have them on my site by tomorrow. www.jonpeters.com

Jon, huge fan and looking to learn. One question I have is why did you opt for biscuits for the bottom rather than just continue with pocket screws? Thanks and please keep doing what you do,
Curious about why you added the 30 degree angle after the face frame was assembled. Thanks.

Great idea 💡 👍 👏 👌
Love the hot glue idea on the bottom of your drawers.
awesome techniques, thank you master
Nice one Jon,! I'm building a cabinet soon, so this is perfect timing :)
Hello. "What size ply was used for drawers, half or three-quarter inch?
Tell us about the tapered drill bits. Haven’t seen those before.
Jon u are simply guy I love it

Thanks Jon! Great job, looking forward to the next steps.
What type wood do you use for your face frames and box? Great job by the way
A Must Have!
I like your addition of the hot glue to the backs. Is the face frame flush with inside of cabinet?
No, the sides are flush with the inside edge of the face frame, because he made the face frame first.
What is the name of the tool which was fitted on the pocket hole jig and the table - at 2:51 that you used to hold the board. Something like hydraulic clamp?
Would you care to provide the details for the pneumatic vice that you used at 2:50? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find one like the one you used.
Great video. Thanks, Jon.
Nice explanations and work. How would you add a base or change the cabinet to make it a base cabinet?
Nice work you are like the Harrison Ford of the wood!
Nicely done Jon! 👍👊
5:57 He can freehand a line straighter than I can get with a ruler.
Great video and the explanation is spot on, Jon. Thanks.
How much space do you have between the top and bottom of the drawer face to the cabinet opening ??
keep up the good work very educational video
M going to be building some drawers in the near future and have heard about problems with drawer slides. Do you have a preference for any brands
Very nice cabinets. What species is the Garnica plywood?
Nice information about it
NICE Shop!
Hello Jon. Thanks for all your great info. I am falling into the woodworking rabbit hole. I am a cement mason by trade. Is it easier to build face frames first and then build your box based from there or was this just a specialty case.
Reaux building the face frames first is standard in the cabinet industry. I hope this helps.
Nice looking work but isn’t it possible to rebate the sides of the drawer sides to receive the front. It can be screwed through the fronts into the rebate then no visible screws when opening the drawers which ruins the finish in my opinion
Very Nice 😀

For less. Its because they dont account for the thousands invested in all the tooling, equipment, space and experience.
Amazing techniques that's good
What's the brand of the jig?
Very good video
Thanx jon
Thy for sharing.
Jon thanks for the videos. I can’t find Garnica Plywood at my home center. Their website is not based in the US. Would please let us know how you get their plywood I want to use it for my projects.
Hello i have a question. What is the instrument but you help the sliding mechanism? Which look alike the gun :)
We don't have these types of tools in Pakistan so we can't do it. So good.🙂
Great Video, thanks for sharing!
Is there a way to counter sink the slides or something so that the face of the cabinet doesn't have the gaps on each side of the drawers?
Just make the face plate of the draw wider it will cover the gaps :)
Can you tell me what the difference between popular and select pine wood
Popular is in the hardwood family and pine is in the soft wood. I have an allergy to Pine so I almost never use it
I think using pocket hole screws for the face frame is perfectly acceptable because there little stress on the face frame and it eliminates complexity. I do like using dominoes or dowels (Jon uses bisquits which is good as well I just don't have a bisquit joiner). If you use dominoes, you can eliminate the screws altogether. Gracias y excelente, saludos desde México.
a very helpful video, thanks!
Nice build! Perfection!
What type /name brand of drawer slides did you use?
Great video - nice work!!
Thanks!
കൊള്ളാം കലക്കി
He drew a straight line free hand. This is impressive.
It is as straight as the edge of the wood that he rests his finger on.
you skipped the part about measuring for the stick? It is in the middle? Just like the middle of the drawer?
How do you determine the size of the spacer so that the cabinet line matches the drawer center-line?
bear Smoker right?How?
Can you explain the hot glue tip? You said for strength but I was wondering if you would elaborate more.
If your cabinet opening is 18" wide and your using roller bearing slides what width would you have to make your drawer to fit into cabinet opening ??
Normally the drawer slides are 1/2 inch in thickness each so just to be safe extract from the opening 1 1/16 one inch and a sixteen and that's your drawer width
Love the work, Jon! I’ll be doing the same but mine are bathroom vanities. But casework is casework. :)
In your shop talk, you might mention how you installed the drawer slides without the Rockler tool?
What's an inch? Is it like what the Roman legions used to march in a day? Or the units used by the ancient Greeks to measure the dimensions of the Parthenon?
Nice👌
Thanks

Hello from the futre! He is locking his fingers and just drags his hand along the edge. But it really looks well rehearsed, it impressed me too :p
