I'm Getting so many questions regarding "what does it mean by no outside magick?" That im just going to answer it here. This book assumes youre starting from square 0 and takes you up through to "Adeptus minor" in ceremonial magick. As such heres what I'd consider "outside magick" NEW magickal operations : If youre not already doing something then dont start any new stuff. If you have talismans or other stuff youre currently upkeeping then keeping those should be fine in my understanding. But just dont start anything *NEW* if you need to let spirits know your going to be doing this and might not be as active with them but you should be able to keep all land spirit relationships. ANGEL AND DEMON WORK STOPS COMPLETELY. Do not continue any operations of that nature At all. Same goes for elemental work other then what is described
For those who don't know, the author of this book has a RUclips channel where he goes into very in-depth discussions. He does a great job at clearing up misconceptions.
No idea how the neophyte grade work would only take you 10 mins. But then again I learned originally from Damien Echols and he is highly energy work focused and is constantly saying to take your time and do everything 3+ times. (Charge pentacles, invoke angels etc). I’ve tried to do it exactly how Lyam describes and it feels way less potent. (With just the white light as well). That and once I started doing the BRH and Rosecross, I saw no reason to stop. I have been in Neophyte for 1.5 years and have regularly performed 1-2 hr rituals. I am not following the curriculum anymore for these reasons. And I’ve found the self initiation ritual given by Damien Echols to be very transformative as well as the invoking and banishing (not just banishing). The other reason is that practical Magick has been incredibly useful to me. And that the variations on the middle pillar given by Lyam are very unappealing to me. The rituals given by Damien Echols in Angels and Archangels (the celestial lotus and the Shem operation) appear much more dramatic and powerful. All that, and the fact that while Lyam Christophers RUclips videos have been hugely useful to me, he definitely rubs me the wrong way in many respects. Shouldn’t matter right? Well I’m less inclined to trust someone who sets such a rigid curriculum that absolutely cannot be broken than someone like Echols, or Frater Xavier or you, who says to make everything your own, constantly experiment and do what works for you.
The neophyte daily's are basically just the LBRP, Middle pillar and mediations. I actually heard the criticism of the neophyte daily's taking a long time but in all honesty? I just don't see it. That said! I do agree that the neophyte dailies are less potent then one would usually expect especially if youre used to other magickal systems. Its extremely noticeable. Ultimately at some point I'll probrably make my own initiatory system/book at some point but until that happens I prefer to recommend this book and I've been advising people about this book for over 3 years now.
Excellent video Lyam Christopher is truly the Man! It’s funny how I had purchased Regardie 6th Edition - black brick years ago - so it was two steps to a book shelf to get started . It’s dam hard to do all requirements , which is the point !
Just wanted to thank you for doing this video. I have really enjoyed working with this book, but I get so much shit from other Golden Dawn types about it. Nice to see that someone else likes this curriculum and has found it useful.
It was very useful to hear about your experiences at each grade. Thanks for sharing! And as you probably know, this book isn't teaching traditional GD curriculum, as many GD practioners keep saying when it's mentioned. Having some experience with a more traditional order I can agree with them. Doesn't mean it's not useful by any means, just worth mentioning in my opinion.
Great review of a fantastic book. I checked the link to see when I bought this book, and it was December 11, 2006, exactly 18 years ago. Coincidence? lol I didn't do all of this curriculum because I had been doing Golden Dawnish work for almost 25 years when I bought this book. I also don't agree with the magic is all in your head concept, although much is, there ARE external spirits, bad, good and neutral. This is the book that I recommend to anyone looking for a good start in magic, it used to be Modern Magic, but I think this one is better. There really aren't a lot of books that have a complete curriculum. Most just kind of ramble around, but this book will get you there.
Thanks, Frater Dave! I really like your longer videos! If you have the bandwidth after the work day, I'm sure that folks in the community (INCLUDING ME) would love to study under you. Hope you're well and God bless!
Okay, so my basic, spiritual hygiene practice consists of meditation, banishing, leaving offerings for local spirits, and recharging my home protection talisman (mine is a 5th pentacle of Saturn). I figure the first two would be fine to continue while working through this curriculum, but would the offerings and talisman maintenance breach the "no outside magic" rule? Also, I'm sure you're getting a ton of questions about that specific rule, and I'm sure the book itself clarifies most of them... so sorry about that xD but I do want to make sure I don't have to abandon my relationships with the spirits of the land, or leave my home unprotected if the book offers nothing to replace it.
I'm at the 🔥 grade and I always did outside magick.... But not that much. So far theoricus was the worse for me. I was a total scatterbrain. Now in Philosophus I became more lustful, as in sexually and towards life in general. Up until this grade I tried to be as pure and moral as I could be but with fire I just feel like doing whatever I want and stop feeling sorry about it.... Its a strange shift
When it is stated to not do any other magickal work, does this include tantric practices? I am also very very interested in Tibetan Buddhism/Vajrayana and have picked up several meditation practices from it. I understand that both systems should be compartementalized to some degree, since there are things that differ such as symbolic correspondances between eastern and western systems. But do you think one can follow this book and still perform tantric practices?
It says it in the required reading section of the Neophyte grade chapter. and to answer the question about tantra I don't think you should be doing two systems at the same time until you come to a good "stabilizing" point in at least 1 of them.
What do you think is a better initiation, this book or the abramelin or what Dr Skinner wrote for self initiation? And which system of magick do you think is better overall? This or what the abramelin gives you or Goetic/salomonic? Or are they all similar? I’m ready to move on from the “internet research” /armchair magician phase and into the practitioner phase. Also what sort of IT job do you have? I’m finishing up school right now and hoping to land an IT job asap
This book is the one i recommend. Abramelin can throw your life into chaos and i don't know which book Dr Skinner wrote on self initiation. Typically you work through one system master it then move to the next ones. Also if youre looking for advice in IT work get Security Certs and find something in security. I cant really give advice on this as i kind of "fell" into my IT job because of magick
Sorry to pull away from the main topic of the video, but I have a question I wanted to ask, since my one occult friend didn’t know. So I’m a beginner, and I was doing some meditation when I had the sudden mental image of a cloaked figure with a fox head and weird turquoise stuff (it looked like smoke or flashes of light) around it. It didn’t seem harmful or malicious, and it didn’t seem to have or want a name. I’m not quite sure what(who?) that was, and online research didn’t help. What kind of spirit could it be? Should I try to seek it out again? Any help with this would be hugely appreciated, thanks!
Hi! What paradigm do you subscribe to now, if you can tell? You said you were not keen on the psychological paradigm. Also do you have an opinion on how chaos magick 'works'? So not on the system but on how it is told to manifest.
@KristofferThorne I get scrambled letters, I also see loony tune style monsters and anime characters, and they interact in strange ways i can sometimes control.
I’m curious if anyone did the Elemental Grades in parallel with Ayahuasca Ceremonies. Someone from the G:.D:. Order told me, as long as you keep doing „The Work”… you can do both.

Its a format im trying to do more but its not as easy to do as ive been busy
@ It’s always appreciated Dave

Would you suggest this book over the self initiation into the golden dawn?
I prefer this one.
Is this a precursor of aligning oneself with angels before engaging with Demons as previously mentioned/showing in a recent video of yours, please…?
Should I use a circle like Frater Xavier recommends for other magickal work?
Sorry to pull away from the main topic of the video, but I have a question I wanted to ask, since my one occult friend didn’t know. Kind of splitting the difference between psych and spiritual models.
Which Egyptian book?
Man how is no one talking about the authors youtube channel?
Its in the description of the video
Did anyone else have some hallucinations after doing the lbrp. Mine are very cartoony
Same here, like cartoon messages you're supposed to interpret. Kinda like a series of GIF's
@KristofferThorne
I get scrambled letters, I also see loony tune style monsters and anime characters, and they interact in strange ways i can sometimes control.
Now I feel stupid for not getting anything.
@miwwie1504
I wouldn't, i had a few sleepless nights learning to deal with it
@@bignoob1790 ah, well does it form out of your hypnagogia? Am I chanting wrong? Do you still have them?
How does this work if you're a pagan? Is this as deeply Abrahamic as other books on Kabbalah?
its a blend of Abrahamic and Egyptian
I’m curious if anyone did the Elemental Grades in parallel with Ayahuasca Ceremonies. Someone from the G:.D:. Order told me, as long as you keep doing „The Work”… you can do both.
⭐Thanks
Subbed. My “bible” of choice is Transcendental Magic Doctrine and Ritual…. You would like Key of Mysteries too.
