Who's ever idea to make the color pallet change after ranpo becomes confident needs a raise that is such a excellent idea and ive never seen that in a anime before 💖💖
March Comes in Like a Lion is another one that handles abstracts with imagery well. Anxiety and Depression like slogging through water or drowning in said water.
Yess, it was such a nice detail to put in. The scenes in the beginning were from Ranpo's point of view alone as he viewed himself to be all alone and though everyone saw the world in the same way!!
Its funny that Ranpo, the greatest detective got fooled into believing be was an ability user by a man who at the time didn't know that he himself was an ability user. The irony lmao
I don't think he was fooled as much as desperate. Like deep inside he very much knew that he didn't have an ability but ignored that as he was in desperate need of something like that and likely kept lying to himself about that
The anime doesn’t really portray it as clearly as the ln due to lack of time but at this stage in his life ranpo was really desperate at this point of time to escape that sense of isolation and fear he was feeling at that time in his life
I'm pretty sure he knew he didn't have any ability, he just was a very desesperate 14 year old who got his first taste of positive attention without any hidden meanings behind it and took all Fukuzawa said in a stride, even if he knew it was false
this scene is designed for someone like him to understand the world around him. his parents made the world around him as people who are better than him so he wouldn’t expose his detailed observations (that’s why he’s so pissed when people didn’t notice what he noticed). so Fukuzawa had to flip the perspective that everyone around Ranpo is a fool and couldn’t see everything that Ranpo sees. the glasses was the metaphor for him to remind himself when to talk about what he observes so that he wouldn’t get in trouble for unsolicited blabbering out the truths on anyone 🤣 also, considering his behavior, i think he has autism, or in a variation of it -- of course the glasses were fake but i guess it’s become a sentimental value on Ranpo (im amazed at how he managed to take care of those glasses tho. I now have 6 within 12 years, 3 got broken and 1 got lost 🥲)
Woah really? They didn't talk about that in the episode, where does it say his parents did that? All they mentioned was that Ranpo's parents died in an accident or something iirc.
@@RainbowEssence-c3wIn the light novel (which if I remember correctly was called the untold story of the formation of the agency) Fukuzawa said that Rampo's parents were just as genius or intelligent as him, the other thing he says is that his parents made him believe that everyone was smarter than him I don't remember reading it, so it could be an assumption or something like that
Goddamn, this episode really hit close to home for me. I can relate to Ranpo in a lot of ways, and when he said that it felt like there was something everybody else understood but him I really felt that because I've felt the same way. Growing up and even now, it sometimes feels like there's this thing other people know but that I can't quite grasp. Idk if it was because I was quiet or if it was just my imagination or what, but it felt like my classmates would look at me as though I had two heads when I tried talking to them. I've always been very quiet and introverted, and maybe that is something people find off-putting, idk. My interests never really aligned with the mainstream either, I don't much care for reality TV or sports or the latest celebrity gossip. I'm so often out of the loop on the latest trends and slang, it's kinda embarrassing lol. Like Ranpo, I was fortunate enough to meet someone who told me I was special and inspired me to put more effort into my schooling and participate more in class. She was my fourth grade teacher, and to this day I am grateful to her for encouraging me and I will never forget what she did for me. It's partially because of her that I've decided to go into teaching myself, in the hopes of being that inspiration/beacon for my own students. I want to share my love of learning with others and encourage them to be the best person they can be.
Does he sealed Rampo's ability into the eye glasses? We know that Fukuzawa has the ability to suppress the abilities of others. In this case it was to protect rampo falling for the wrong hands. This explains why Dazai can't deactivate his ability. I think once it breaks the ability will eventually returns to rampo.
Ranpo doesn't have an ability. He's just very smart, but underestimates himself, believing everyone else can notice such things just as easily, but for some reason won't mention it, which confuses and upsets him. Fukuzawa wanted Ranpo to feel proud of his skills, so he told him that other people are oblivious and that he was "gifted," giving Ranpo a reason as to why he is unique. To make Ranpo utilize his talented mind more, Fukuzawa lies about the glasses activating his powers. Ranpo trusts Fukuzawa more than most people and because he wanted to believe he was special, the glasses trick worked, clearing the fear and uncertainty of being different from his head to make way for confidence.
They don't explain it in the anime, I recommend you to read the novel "the untold origins of the Armed Detective Agency" I can pass you a link if you want
The fact that Ranpo still believes he is an ability user and his ability ONLY activates when he's wearing the glasses is so cute 😭

So, how the heck can he solve cases that fast if he isn't... err, 'Gifted' per se? I just don't get it. Isn't a "talent" a little bit near to a gift?
@@theberserkhealerbzkz4556 he's gifted intellectually but in BSD gifted means ability user and he isn't one

he is definitely autistic as a person with level 2 autism myself
It's more like coercive persuasive anxiety management than ability control glasses
Looks like we're having a third episode of this backstory.
