They're very much both an absolute masterpiece, but the difference in tone makes them feel like very different games. Original has that classic sense of humour and a very special kind of charm, like it feels like it's a game and you're aware of it but it doesn't subtract from the product.
Remake is like a top tier interactive movie, with a great cast (excluding Ada IMO) and fun realistic action that's still just comical enough to stop you from feeling terrified throughout the game.

I've played both. The original is in my top 5 gaming experiences of all time, and they did such a great job with the remake, mainly in leaving alone what works, thoughtful expansions of Luis and Ashley's characters, and upgrading the action mechanics and of course the juicy graphics and sound. The later boss fights are better, too.
They took away the gun lasers, made the knife destructable, and made it so zombies weren't always kickable with headshots. That pissed me off so much

Btw novistadors can also cut off Leon’s head in re4 remake and the death of Leon in re4 remake from Salvador is more painful
I just played the first hour of the game. If you are an old RE4 player you won't like:
_no red laser from the getgo
_massive shortage of ammo
_enemies take more bullets to down

1) Laser is op you shouldn't have it from the get go
2) There's no shortage of ammo unless you have terrible aim
3) Again, they're only bullet sponges if you have terrible aim. A pistol will kill with 2-3 headshots, a plagued enemy goes down in one shotgun/rifle headshot

Honestly the biggest difference I can see here is that in the original, Leon keeps his gun in hand at the ready. Always held in a manner where it can be ready to fire the minute a threat may show. Something that makes sense with him having been a cop, as they always keep firearms ready when they know there is an active or possible threat in the area.
By the time you’ve been jogging around a couple hours, wrestled a few ganados, sprinted away from a boulder, hopped several windows, I assure you, that gun will end up pointed at the ground.
Re4 graphics and gameplay is really good for a ps2 game
I a hundred percent percented both, and I think the gameplay is everything that's culminated of resident evil through out the years, it's absoulutley perfect. But the problems start rising with the story because some of the more important story beats are cut out, like all the radio transitions that displayed the charectors of Salazar and saddler, they were cut in favor of more scenes of Luis to make you care about him more and it was also dedicated to making th dynamic between ashley and leon much more fleshed out through interactions in gameplay. But in genral I don't know why they didn't just keep the everything from the orignal and add in the changes they made, it wouldve improved on perfection, also the u3 fight and crane game were cut, I'm still pissed about that not to mention the section on the back of the truck
I still love the old one, forget about the superb graphics, the ORGINAL is still the BEST!🔥
The og re4 was the sole purpose of purchasing a gamecube. After that though i realized the gamecube was a super underatted console and had loads of awesome games for it.

The chainsaw death is much more brutal
I think Japan has censorship laws for decapitations. Like a monster can do it but there are stricter limits on humanoids with weapons doing it.

Remake is better in terms of gameplay mechanics, graphics, and more user friendly. The original is better in terms of story, character development, dialogue, and plot. The remake cut out so much details of what made re4 story plausible.
this opinion is valid, respect to you
Talk about having rose tinted glasses on. The original game's story was literally written within 3 weeks and it shows with how heavily lacking the character development and story is. We literally don't see Luis for the entire game and dies without the game even trying to make us care for him. Remake is all about the story and character develoment and literally gives an entire chapter dedicated to Luis' character development. Play the remake before talking out your ass.
I agree with this. I like both but only re4 remake fans need to chill.

@@bodyinthesewerits not nostalgia if its true. You’re just blind to see all the problems have
The original RE4 is a complete game, the remake is, well its more horror styled, but my biggest disappointment was how the cutscenes were done. So quick, no buildup, nothing. For example the Lago scene, in the Old RE4 it builds up slow and you get a small gist of what’s waiting for you in that lake, but in the new version its just quick, the croc can even fly like a dolphin like brah. Both are different, but yeah I don’t think OG RE4 could ever be topped, it was just groundbreaking for a 2005 game. Literally the start of 2005 and they dropped that absolute masterpiece that I have replayed endlessly with my nephew
The only valid criticism would be the fact they removed the fact Leon was enjoying the entirety of the game, and the line "Women."
I wish the remake had more gore in the deaths especially with the photo realistic graphics kinda brings you out of it if when the acid from the bugs doesn't melt his face like in the original or when you get cut in half and hes still intact would have been cool to see him fall apart or something
Leon CAN get cut in half by Garrador.
When I first went against the chainsaw guy in the vr version I was shaking when he killed me but I used and RPG
Its the fact they cut so many bits out, move them to seperate ways the have the gaul to slap a price tag on it when seperate ways use to come with the game. Plus ada's lines and outfit were far superior

Read the comics. Leon is an absolute unit. Basically Goku Ultra Instinct mode just a little more toned down
Bruh most of this is because of today's social media. They can't accept even the slightest of gore without an attempt to cancel. If this game was made when the people were like how they were in 2005, then could've added all the cheesy dialogues and decapitation back.
Edit: I played the game again, and found much cooler and more gory animations, and found some of the original too, so the gore and decapitation is fine, if not better in the remake👍🏻
Sit your ass down kid. "Today kids don't tolerate gore" millions of grown up adult men and women were seething, terrified to death about how doom, DAMN DOOM, was so horryfingly graphic and satanic that it should be banned because it would make kids sadistic murderers.
You don't know what you're talking about in the slightest. The more far back you go, the more snowflakes people were. Your grandparents' grandparents thought the damn beatles were crazy and too much of a bad influence on the youth.
And just to shit on your specified time period specifically, the 2000s were the age when rockstar was collecting lawsuits, rallies and supreme court citings by the dozen because everyone said it was so crazy that it would make people psychopaths.
But sure, a handful of dudes on twitter is a far bigger threat.
And just to humble you even more, novistadores for example can still decapitate Leon in the remake, so your whole point isn't even real.
Modern games are a lot more gorey than older games. The remake itself has a lot more gore than the original Re4. The cheesey dialogue was mostly because videogames back then were not considered as important to really get professional voices or better scripts compared to nowadays. Besides, they are trying to make the game a lot more gritty and realistic. Making jokes about someone's right hand coming off while trapped in that kind of place isn't exactly realistic
I am not just talking about the game, I'm talking about the media. Yes, I agree that games have gotten a lot more gorey and have offensive jokes in them. But the media will criticize a really really good remake like re4r, because like 1 or 2% of the dialogues weren't added
Re4 remake is literally the greatest game that has been released in the last several years. That’s been the only game I’ve ever preordered besides Days Gone deluxe edition. Snatched that RE4 deluxe edition up quick as hell as soon as a preorder popped up in the Microsoft store. Bought the series s just for this game.

- It's ten times heavier.
- It's performance heavy.
- It's shorter.
- Paid dlc.

And as a zombie horror game that's perfectly fine.

OG had better designs and models for the time. The remake feels like a fanmade project that was made over the course of 3 weeks.
@The_Magnificent_MooseThe gore is tame compared to the remake
The only thing better in the OG is the camera work and soundtrack. The camerawork during cutscenes in OG RE4 was top tier.
@The_Magnificent_Moose What is? The gore?
@The_Magnificent_Moose I just don't agree. The gore is very much so grotesque in the remake. The fidelity of the graphics isn't as well rendered in the OG RE4 so the gore kinda gets lost. RE4R is way more high quality so the gore is far better. It doesn't matter if it's "punchy" it's just better displayed in the remake.
Like I said, the only thing better in the OG is the music and camera work in cutscenes. The controls arguably are better, since I love tank controls, but overall, the gameplay is equally great or slightly better in the remake.
@@samspade8830 The remake hides decapitations lmao.
Well that's not the primary concern for me, what's missing is the cut content as expected of some notorious bosses such as the scary boss you fight in the falling container rooms and the separate area where you fight the giant after the cabin fight with luis, the Ramon giant statue run is cut too, that's what bothers me not the lack of gore
They repurposed the ganado stalking you with it later before the tower in the village blows up.

I was not expecting the remake to be as good as it actually is.
More realistic version:
*Proceeds to parry a chainsaw with a knife*
September 30, 1998… It's a day I'll never forget. The cop inside me died that day. And that night, Raccoon City was wiped out. Thanks to the bioweapons created by Umbrella. Somehow, I made it out. But too many others...weren't so lucky. I was "asked" later to join a top-secret government program. Not that I had a choice. The training, the punishing missions nearly killed me. But at least they kept my mind off everything. If I could just forget what happened that night, the pain-even for a second. This time, it can be different. It has to.
Re4 is my favorite single player game ever made. It raised and set the bar for all survival horror after imo. I’ve beat the OG on every single console it’s released on except the Wii..but the remake? They done an excellent and amazing job at everything. It’s not supposed to be the exact same game. It’s a “remake” not “remaster” but it’s 100% worth the time to play and to me a remake of my favorite game I was extremely skeptical of it before playing. I didn’t go into it with an open mind 😂
