The social determinants of health (eg poverty, discrimination, lack of access to services etc) actually play a much bigger role in health outcomes than diet does (I work in the health sector). Totally with you on the importance of viewing health and wellness in broader terms though! 💜
I agree that those determinants would make it difficult to consider diet (ie access to organic foods and fresh produce), have time to exercise, or have the transportation and funds to support socializing, etc… I’m not sure if it’s necessarily that people don’t understand that these factors are important for health, it’s more that… capitalism has made it virtually impossible for the average person to balance all of these things necessary for good health :( the video shares an important message but I think it’s important to acknowledge these barriers, I agree!
True awareness will come when we start referring to both mental and physical health as 'health', instead of differentiating between both. The mind is a part of the whole body. It's a single complex unit, completely interlinked.
Mental health is really really important. If you are not healthy with your thoughts and brain you can never be healthy/ fine. Everything is related up there in your brain. It was such a good podcast episode. Looking forward to more mental health awareness from joanne. Btw congrats once again on the streamy! U are freaking gorgeous!!! Proud of our Noona!!!
"It's what you eat that is the most important determinant of your health." The most important phrase ever spoken. Wish I realized this much earlier in my life. Even when I found this way of eating, I failed to go for it fully, at times, became sick, and again came back. Thankfully, came back. Thank you for your great contribution.
So true and wise! We have the choice to decide how we act and react in our life. Learning to do it right can lead us to a healthier life even more than a diet or exercise. Stressfull or stress-free life comes from the way we choose to react, not food or physical shape. Thank you for that reminder!
Health is a state of physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.... Just reminded me of the psm definition of health.
How can we not believe in what Dr. Chutkin says? She is a gastroenterologist with over three decades of experience. Assuming she finished her residency about age 30 (?) add to that the tree decades of experience, I would say that there is much to be said for this 60ish year old woman...she surely looks good for her age!
It makes sense that Mental, Physical & Spiritual Happiness are very vital. There’s way too many cases of people who we read/hear about who exercise & eat healthy daily but still just drop ⚰️ When I was younger, I often wondered why that happened to people and how did people who don’t have much live to be so much older. Happiness probably played a big role in that. On the outside they appeared healthy but internally it was another story being told
I am trying really hard to get better after my mate died. It was a traumatic event. I've just started eating again and exercising. I'm not convinced I deserve it, I just don't want the people I love to feel the way I do.
In India, mixing rice with vegetables (called "khichdi") has been prevalent since the dawn of time. We have many similar dishes that help humans maintain mental and physical health.
I Wonder really if there are people who are actually happy with their lives? I suffer depression and I don't see any of those people who surround me as happy or at peace with their lives, but suffering just like me too. The bad days are infinite and the good one are far in between it. Like are there people out there with more good days than bad ones? Do such a thing exists??
I eat healthy most times take enough supplements and herbal remedies although I am sick all the time and I juggle working, doing my education in the health care sector and being a single mother. I don't really have time to do sports. If you have some helpful advice for me please let me know!😢 I feel sometimes like my days are very counted...
I take care of my food but my workplace is toxic ! I can't change my job as having a decent job with decent salary is very rare in India when majority are unemployed and dependent
yeah we have such control 🙄 my market only sells junk half spoiled produce and i can only afford the cheapest stuff, usually canned or frozen veggies. certainly no micro greens. people really should consider what they're saying more. this kind of talk is what gets fat people blaimed for the poison they're forced to eat due to access, ability, and wages.
Hey I'm a 12 year old and I've been watching you videos for a long time but i really don't know what to do now and I feel terrible my parents hate each other alot but haven't divorced but that's not the problem My grandpa on my mother side passed away he live near us but not in the same place you have to go on a train or flight or by car and I don't think i processed it completely I still cry and it happend in this week my exams are coming up , and they decide if I should be sent back or not to Primary or Elementary and , my mom asked us to come on 15 to do a ritual and i wanted to come and my father said yesh and we were deciding but then after knowing i have 2 exams between those day and I would skip English and Social (Civics,History , Geography) He said no then my mom asked why and told me some things and I started to cry i didn't wanna lose my mother because of exams I never spent enough time with my Grandpa i tried but not as much as i could and now I'm stuck in this i don't know what to choose my exams or going to Bengaluru but it's the last time I'll br able to be apart of it I don't know I feel terrible and ive start sh that i stopped doing for a long time if anyone has any advice please tell me i have no one else to talk to cause they'll think I'm depressed at such a young age and they already call my family weird I just want my parents to divorce so I can live with my mom , I can't please both my parents when they choose different things And Anytime I'm sad i always come to your videos cause they some how comfort me but i find no one in the same position as me some have it extreme other dont I don't know what to do I'm scared
if you want to go honor your grandpa, you should. try to convince your dad by honestly expressing your feelings toward the issue. you might be able to talk to your teachers to make up the exams later. please don’t hurt yourself. i hope you can find someone you trust to reach out for help or find comfort from somewhere.
Thanks for commenting but I have some good news my dad decided he'll let me go on Thursday afternoon so I only skip 1 exam rather than 2 but after he found out I was crying he said if it really matter so much you can leave Wednesday afternoon and attend on both Thursday and Friday's ritual and i really appreciate you commented , Thanks for the advice but I'm thinking if I should go on Wednesday afternoon to or Thursday afternoon he told me to decide by 8:30 and then again i really appreciate you read this and respond
@@cornqq Amazing news! My dad agreed so I'll be missing 2 exams but I'll be able to be there for my mom and for the rituals for my grandpa!!!! And i really do appreciate you messages and hope you a wonderful day!

Well those prevent you from eating healthy and managing your stress, so I'd assume that's what that comes from.

Yeah I also studied this in my nursing college
@PeaceOfMake that's certainly part of it but not the whole story, there are lots of other factors as well
I haven't eaten yet and seeing this makes me real hungry

And poor physical health leads to poor mental health. It’s a cycle.

I love how mental health matters just as much as physical health, it really is true ❤️❤️

To be honest i liked, the way you're honest to your audience. I really appreciate it ❤

I'm so very allergic to beans 😂
This would be a gut unhealth rice bowl for me 😅
Oh man that stinks!!! LOLOL. Beans have so much fiber and protein. Maybe pumpkin seeds?
Theres probably a good replacement for them somewhere
Damn I would go crazy not being able to eat beans 😕 They're my favorite thing to eat 😋 especially with ham in the crackpot with great northern beans 😋
Oh same, I'm not allergic, my stomach just hates fiber in general (yes including apples and other high fiber stuff) 😂
