  • Offertoire in f minor by Edouard Batiste (1820-1876). Played by Earl Miller on the 1883 Hilborne Roosevelt organ at First Congregational Church, Great Barrington, MA. Presented under fair use.
Edouard Batiste was immensely popular in his lifetime as an organist, improviser, and composer. He wrote a lot of organ service literature but is mostly remembered for grand, operatic offertories like this. Such music was quite fashionable during Batiste's lifetime but became unpopular after his death. Still, it's a refreshing change today from organ recitals featuring only Baroque or 20th century literature.

This is a wonderful performance, thank you! Can you tell me where you found the graphic of the organ fire for the video?

Thank you for the compliment. I think I just google searched for "Orgue St. Eustache" and found that image. The new Dublaine-Callinet organ burnt in 1844 after Barker dropped a candle inside the instrument while doing repairs.
