Steve, that is awesome. You are indeed a man of steel nerves when faceting gemstones. I've tried that and always end up with two, maybe three, facets. Thank you for sharing your techniques. Good Job!
Hi Steve I figured out that the best way to maintain pressure and consistency is to make sure you have support at your elbow. Try putting a towel on your table and resting your elbow, curving your wrist.
Not only a great tutorial on how to repair the table, but also how to hold an unmounted gemstone for inspection. Can't tell you how many times they've slipped out of my fingers. Thanks, Steve!
Hello Steve, I have watched your video’s and I am very impressed. Thank you. I built my machine back in the late 70’s. Now I am retired and with the current virus condition it was a perfect time to jump back in and Faceting stones. I have a question regarding the Batt Lap which is new to me. When you charge the lap do you use diamond powder vs. the diamond packed with grease? Also, I noticed you don’t use water during the use of the batt lap. I currently working on an Aquamarine. Using a 260 lap, then a NoBond 1200, and now I am ready for the Batt lap. Any tips or suggestions? I live here in Indianapolis not to far from you. Thank you and Happy Faceting.
MoreGems.com thank you Steve for the tip. I did watch you video. You also mentioned at the beginning you pre-polish on a 3000 lap. What type of lap you use with the 3000? Thank you
Lausi Kraut I use 50 k diamond powder and clean with wd 40. I drilled 3 small holes in the plastic container to make a shaker for the diamond and spread with my finger. You can wipe it quickly once with a tissue when polishing slows to extend the charge. Clean with wd and recharge fairly often as polishing slows. Careful not to leave too much wd which makes it hard to clean the stone for viewing.
MoreGems.com thank you Steve, this is very interesting your sequence. 325 nubond then to a polish. I guess this will give you a lesser chance for contamination. Where do you purchase your laps from? Thank you
@@Moregems Thank you! I watched that one right when you released it! I love your videos. I'm right over in asheville and just purchased an old v2. Your videos have been indespensible for me. thank you
a name The facette is a great machine but it has no future. I am impressed by my first four stones on the ultra tec they just seem to be right and as importantly Its fast.
@@Moregems Ah, I read about the facette. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on thee subjects! I'm just learning to use the controls now. Thanks again
I just press with the pad of my index finger and squirt water with a spray bottle so it doesn't catch...it always comes out perfect...like we were designed to do just that...

I like your new machine. Give us a tour.
You use oil or water when using 50k? What kind of oil? 🙏 is it better to use a copper disk or what you’re using ?
Good point

Lausi Kraut I actually use a 325 nu bond and direct to polish with 50k diamond on a batt lap.

was that ring plastic?
Do you always need to polish on the lowest setting?
This was just my technique on fixing a table facet. You can see my techniques on polishing (when cutting a gem) in my other faceting videos.
Hey steve, Thank you for this video! Do you prefer the facette, or the ultratec machine?
