My dad had a Zagato in 1971, it was a 1.3 1969 model in a fabulous original metallic colour, called Rosso Mirabella, it was absolutely gorgeous, so gorgeous intact that it attracted attention wherever it went. On one very memorable occasion a chap on his bicycle was so captivated by it's beauty he couldn't keep his eyes off it as we drove by and ended up falling of his bicycle as he turned his head watching us in awe as we drove by, a very funny and memorable moment. My Dad loved the car so much , he would film it on his 8mm cine camera, which when I watch them today they bring back so many memories. The Zagato was a truly beautiful car, a work of art in my opinion and way ahead of it's time in so many respects.
I am not a big Lancia fan. And I’m not necessarily a big Zagato fan. But I’m a total fan of anyone who is pouring so much passion and resources to revive a unique and lovely automobile such as this one.
This seems to take forever this restoration, then you look close and see the quality of the work, it's going to be totally worth the wait, congrats to all involved thus far, great work indeed.
The flame-orange colour was the right choice - it's a fire-breathing dragon, the little Lancia!! Such an emotional moment after such an eventful voyage of discovery in restoration. Almost cannot wait until you can drive it away for real.
Congratulations, Harry. I have a huge amount of respect and appreciation for these cars now and the amount of work you've put into this one. As an American, we never got these, so I've never seen one. This certainly is a beauty.
I couldn't believe it the other day when I saw one of these driving around in a rural town outside of Melbourne in Aus. These things are incredibly rare to begin with and to see when on a country road out here... I think it may be one of only a few in Australia.
This has got to be my favourite restoration amongst Harry's curent YT videos. I was surprised to see how much work had taken place since the last episode (around 3 weeks sgo) & the look on Harry's face when the engine started first time was just wonderful. The Lancia is really taking shape & will be a wonderful addition to Harry's collection, especially as he has such an emotional connection to this car. Brilliant stuff!
After all that work and Webers from a completely different car and it fires up like that. Amazing. Then that classic Italian music in almost perfect tune from the start. Love it. Impressive by all involved 👍👍
Turn the volume WAY UP for this video, it's a great one. After the restoration is completed, this car needs a solid 10-minute video with nothing but the sounds of it and the road while Harry drives it with the brightest smile on his face. 👍
Harry like a kid in a sweet shop, fantastic. It is amazing how much joy a car can bring to the genuine enthusiast. I bet it feels better than picking up a new Ferrari. Great stuff.
wow! the best Harrys video yet, having cut my teeth as a boy on classic restorations and working in the paintshop at Marrrenello to complete my apprenticeship ( those were the days!) i can fully appreciate the work that has gone into this. Harry seeing this wonderful car coming back to life, like a kid in a sweet shop ! Fantastic work by all . Thank you.
What a charming moment, obviously emotionally charged. She started so easily, the whole project has been carried out to the highest standard. The result is truly special. Looking forward to fully assembled!
Harry's face after driving the Zagato says it all. The time and money that went into bringing this car back from the dead was worth it. It sounds incredible, and I can't wait to see it finished
You're that happy while there are still a lot of parts missing. Imagine how good this is going to be when its on full throttle with those carbs. It already sounded great when it was ropey so now all the panels are the right shape and its been put together by people who know what they're doing its going to be immense. This is one of my favourite projects you've done. Its so good to see a car that has been bodged and half done for years get restored back to better than new. I can't wait to see it out and about now. Even the colour suits it. Love that little car.
The happiest I have ever seen Harry. What a wonderful moment and how good does that machine now look. It's also got a very angry note which suits it perfectly. Great work
That's been so, so satisfying... It roared into life so nicely, and the sheer excitement of driving it around the block must have been incredible. Fantastic!
Fantastic to see it running after all this time. This has been my favorite project on the channel. Even more than the Jag and the Espada. Harry in this video reminds me of Christmas when I was 7 and I was trying ride my new bicycle before my dad had finished assembling it. Some kids never grow up and are all the better for it!
I'm following you since some years and i have to say that this is my favorite project from your channel! It's so nice to see you this happy about being back with the Fulvia Zagato! For me it's such dream car and yours sounds like hell! I wish you all the best with her and thank you so much to bring us with you along this journey! Thank you Harry!
The diameter of the exhaust is extremely important on these little V4 engines from Lancia. The original diameter gives you the original performance and engine characteristics, as designed by Lancia. Even a small change in diameter makes a significant difference. On my Appia (the Fulvia's older brother), we experimented with different pipes and even the smallest change was noticeable. Lancia knew their stuff. Keep it to original specs all the way.
Fabulous video. Magical stage of the process. Anyone who has ever rebuilt a car will appreciate the immense complexity of the mechanicals required to get an old car moving under its own motive power. Anyone who has ever rebuilt a car will recall the magic of the noise, sounds, smells, sensations of its rebirth - they’re old memories reborn! This video captures these emotions succinctly. I remember getting an old mini going again, and feeling similar sensations. It didn’t need doors or a dashboard - just as long as I could feel and hear the thing going again, I was happy to have my car back. Just as in this case, the rebuilt engine was more powerful, cleaner and stronger than the rusty old thing that it once was - but felt instantly familiar.
Lancia Zagato! THE stuff of legends, well, here in the U.S. at least. I worked on one DECADES ago. Gave her a Pertronics ignition, set valve lash, and tweeked the carbs, & took it for a drive. Great, FUN car! Enjoy her Harry!
I’m so jealous, this car is fabulous, the colour, the sound… it’s a zagato! I love everything about this resto. The XJC was awesome, but the colour is still growing on me. Harry your restorations are amazing! Thanks for your work, and thanks for your channel.
It's an endlessly interesting design, everything under the hood and below the car is very clever and interesting. Then the work looks lovely, add superb body style, I apologize for ever suggesting this was bit far to go on this car. Very happy for Metcalf. You can calibrate that carb vacuum gauge with Tyrrell's hosepipe.
The carb rebuild is unbelievable I mean if someone did not know they were webber 45s they would have thrown them in the bin I'm sure and the rebuild on the car is next level congrats Harry 👏🏼 👍🏼
I couldn't help but smile watching your excitement, Harry. That authentic love of the specialness of various cars, despite having driven (and even owned) so many, is one of the things that makes your channel such a delight.
These are great videos, I love them! I've had x5 Alfa's, the best being a 1.3 Ti Alfasud & a 2.0 Alfetta, Loved them! What these videos (Harry's & Lain Tyrells) does is give me the spark and re-confidence to do the work myself! As a former aircraft engineer, it's reignited my will and desire to just do stuff myself! .... and enjoy it! My old '07 Jeep Grand Cherokee is now running sweet and I love it! ... Thanks Harry/Lain for reconnecting me with my roots. Keep making these great videos.
Love your channel and this is by far my favorite restoration! The repairs to the body are nothing less than miraculous. To that end, I would enjoy seeing a diagram of all of the old and new sheet metal pieces superimposed over the finished car, like cuts of beef on the wall in a butcher's shop. I cant wait to see it finished!
Wonderful to see Harry like a kid in a sweetshop, that little Zagato is a very emotive thing! Fabulous restoration and so glad we have been able to follow it.
When a car falls in to Harry's lap you know its in safe hands and he'll make it great again. That is one very sweet car now. It sounds absolutely fabulous !
Awesome job. Sounds great, once that’s dialled it will purr along. I love your enthusiasm, ‘A kid at Xmas!’ I’d be the same. That’s how my car makes me feel when you’ve been out driving it and step out, walk away and look back at it. Usually followed by take a photo!
Whenever I see that engine I imagine it doubled-up into an ultra-compact little W8. It must have crossed the minds of a few Lancia people back in the day. ETA >> I was grinning non-stop at the end when Harry drove it out of the garage. ETA2 >> no mistaking that sound for anything but an Italian - if heard it coming I'd know it was a Lancia or maybe an Alfa.
If one could bottle up Harry´s happy feelings and sell them, we´d improve the world. That color of the car´s so right, and then we have the so sound. More sports cars for everyone!
It's looking lovely! I've seen a few of these, but I think they all must have been bondo-monsters. Seeing yours, the real beauty of what Lancia and Zagato were doing is revealed!
Nothing like the induction sounds of webbers. I had a tripple setup on my old 240Z. Beautiful sound. Can't wait for the first drive in this beautiful car.
He is right, "it sounds really good" !!!! That glorious "rasp" from the tail pipe makes me think of my old S3 Fulvia SSD 377M, long gone.......and the colour is spot-on!
You took us on an adventurous journey and the result is more than rewarding. So happy for you! Amazing work from everyone involved. Can‘t await the first shakedown and a proper road trip.
Looks great Harry. Just a quick one on the Carb intake stacks, two of these could be longer than the other two due to the asymmetric port lengths across the Narrow angle Lancia V4. From the back of the engine coming forward it should be short/long/short/long and ideally the difference in length should be circa 100mm? This would certainly help to equalize the induction port length. 👍🏻
You can change the trumpet lengths but that does not alter the fact that the position of the Emulsion tubes within the carburettors are always at different lengths in regard to the position of the inlet valves and that is why when all said and done a vacuum check will not be 100 percent accurate as was shown because one reading was done on a short intake length and the other on a long intake length but because the Radiator precludes measuring the front port then you do no 2 on the first carburettor and no 4 on the second carburettor as they are both the same length inlet tract and then the tricky part is setting the idle mixture screws and in that area experience with Fulvia V 4 engines is of great importance as they are an art to get as close to perfect as you can.
Didn't they mention something about other trumpet options? I got the impression they wanted to see how it worked with this setup before deciding whether to see if a different setup would work better.
Brilliant just bloody brilliant to see what everyone has achieved and to such a high standard. You can see the look of joy on peoples faces with this project.👍
Harry, you are going to love throwing this little gem up an Italian mountain pass playing tunes on the gearbox, what a lovely forty, raspy exhaust note The Zagato sings again👍

How nice to see the smiles from the shop staff as well! Kept thinking of the amazing body restoration and paint quality as the camera panned around too. Thanks Harry for sharing this wonderful Zagato project with us all. 😊👍🏻👍🏻
It's been amazing to follow this story - thank you so much for allowing us to share it with you. Great to see the obvious excitement on your face - kids in a sweet shop have nothing on you!! What a sound 🤩
Completely incredible. Loved that first fire-up. That exhaust note fits it so well. I cannot wait to see the video once it’s been broken in and out through its paces.
Congratulations Harry and Day & White's on the successful start up (and test drive)! your long association with this car, to see it now running so well and wearing its correct colour too, how wonderfully special, thanks for bring us along. Every car nut wants a Zagato, only you Harry were brave enough for that plunge, and to keep going with the 'freshening' during those dark early days of filler and patches. waiting for the next instalment.
This is an amazing project! Absolutely everything has been done to exacting perfectionist standards! It's been great to watch this story so far, and Harry is like a kid at Christmas - such a joy to watch
Harry drives out of workshop - looking like he's celebrating his 11th birthday! What a great day for all involved.
It is a wonderful restoration, there is so much going on under the skin. What a glorious sound, Thanks Harry
Skin is mostly new metal now
sounds like a kid blowing a raspberry
@One Issue Voter, as they said.
@@johnnunn8688 they said they will trim the body..... bit of a bodge. It needs a different rad
@One Issue Voter agreed also some of the welding is a bit suspect to say the least
The look on Harry's face after the Zags start up was just quality. Like a kid in a candy store. 😁😁
Ye its superb! like me getting a model saturn 5 space rocket back in the days of being a child 😁😄
And he looked the same when he took her for a spin, if not more so. That look won't fade soon, no sir! Pure joy.
Ha ha!! Exactly!!!!! (I was thinking kid in a sweet shop!!)🤣
@@mantarayal that's what I meant. I'm just being considerate to the foreign viewers. 😉
Sweet shop you mean
Like the look of the 2000 Sedan on the other ramp. Lovely
Not just A car, THE very car that shaped the rest of your life! And now she’s your pride and joy.
Congratulations Harry.
Seeing the Lancia coming back to life and the look on Harry's face is just priceless! Congratulations!
Seeing Harry take it out of the garage, I just knew he couldn't resist taking out farther. Like a kid with a new toy. Part of Harry's charm.
Best channel on RUclips. Amazing video as always. I love the various projects that are underway, and glad I'm not footing the bill.

A boy with his toy, I can actually see the excitement on Harry's face and in his voice. Well done.
Such a pleasure to see the enthusiasm Harry showed upon his return from his first drive
All of everyone's hard work so far summed up in that smile.
What a sound! A true Italian beauty 🇮🇹

You took us on an adventurous journey and the result is more than rewarding. So happy for you! Amazing work from everyone involved. Can‘t await the first shakedown and a proper road trip.
These people are artists. Their work is just beautiful. Can't wait to see the Fulvia on the road again.
Back to life, baby. I enjoyed that almost as much as Harry. A nice car.
Looks great Harry. Just a quick one on the Carb intake stacks, two of these could be longer than the other two due to the asymmetric port lengths across the Narrow angle Lancia V4. Harry I had a massive smile on my face when the engine started.
It must have been immence for you!
Sounds great too.

The Zagato sings again👍
I cant believe that Harry is going to rally this Jewel....
Wow - what an awesome series this is - really enjoying to see the Zagato transformation. Now it starts to look like a brand new car. Great work, from everybody involved.
Looking extremely sharp
Sounds better than a 1600 has any right to! That is going to be so much fun.
It is a joy to see such a poor sad car finally restored to proper glory and shine! It put me a smile!

Love the Zagato...
Already a favorite all-time...can't wait to see/hear it cruising...
Very Big 👍 from me, those craftsmen definitely know what there doing Harry.
Great to see the car reborn as well as the look of utter delight on Harry’s face.
Bloody hell, Harry. That car looks stunning even though it's not complete.

Awesome, what a smile on your face Harry as you wait for the lift to go down
A truly joyous moment when the Lancia fires up ✌🏼👏🏾👏🏾
