I’ve always used cork to put under aquariums when I’ve built my wood stands. I buy a thin sheet of it and cut strips to put underneath the entire aquarium (plastic trim only) and it’s thin and durable. Really helps absorb any gaps from plywood top. Never any tank issues in the last 15 years when using cork.
really nice job, thanks for the idea! for future builds, you could consider using a brad nailer and small brad nails for attaching the trim. makes a smaller blemish on the surface that can easily be covered with spackle
I love the Penn-Plax Cascade canister filter you had in the video. I used to use one on my old tank before I got out of the aquarium hobby and other than a few minor issues with water clarity, I LOVED it.
Nice build. I built a 6 foot stand for a 135. I just made sure the tank had support under the black edges of the tank. I didn’t check to see if it was totally flush. It’s plywood. You can probably slide a magazine under my gaps. I made sure the tank is totally level when filled all the way up! It hasn’t exploded yet! 🤯
nice looking stand ..you mentioned when installing the trim to have a little bit high so that the tank wouldn't actually sit on it,and create to much pressure.By doing that will the actually trim around the tank affect the trim around the top of the plywood?I hope I made sense.
Not trying to flood yr comment section but I am kinda at a lost on trying to figure out what type of trim and size to add.Ive built a 75 gallon stand and I have a 3/4" sanded birch plywood on top
Once water is in the tank all that stuff flattens out. Its not necessary to do all that sanding. They dont sand the stands u buy at walmart and put together at home.
Before you paint it get some black caulking and on your trim use the black caulking to fill in all the gaps, you may be able to use it over your screwheads also just use a putty knife to smooth it out over the screwheads and use a wet sponge to wipe it down over your corner cracks.

I am fixing to get back into the hobby this year and this time around I'm planning on using a Fluval FX6 or FX4 canister filter on my 75.

Don't have regrets about the height of the top trim. It's high enough to cover the yoga mat. Good build, buddy! 👍
Thanks
Looking good bud! Can't wait to see it finished
What kinda of trim are you using?
I've also never considered adding a cushion under the tank.I thought it'll be good just on the top of the plywood.
@@Mrmike710 if the top is not perfectly level I always add a cushion to be sure
Wow nice tank you made❤️👍😃

Great job! 👍👍
Looks great to me
looking good!! make sure you put your canister filter in a plastic tub ....just in case it leaks
Planing on that thanks
Good job. What hinges did you use on the doors?

That’s not a bad idea
Instead of a yoga mat, you can use run of the mill black weatherstripping from any online retailer or local automotive store. 😀
That’s true. But I was lazy and did t want to leave the house to go shopping.
Cool build
Thanks Coop!
Nice!👍
Idk if you’ve answered this question but what kind of gravel did you use in the end?
Caribsea black and white sand
If it doesn't explode... 🤔 are you suggesting this is not a test for indoors 🤙
Can you post me measuremet on 2×4's for stand thx you
You really only need a mat underneath the tank if its a rimless..
