Weird. I used to love it but didn't laugh this time. Maybe I've seen it too much.
The funny walk still cracked me up though.
I do find fawlty towers overrated. This episode was great but some others were a bit average. Like Monty python really. Most of it was crap but there were some gems.

This was my father’s favourite episode of Fawlty Towers. He was a ten year old German boy when the war ended. Whenever we had our German relatives over, visiting us in Canada, Dad would pop in the video cassette of this episode, telling them “You’re going to love this.” He was right.

    • @yannick245

It was removed from the platform that has/had the rights to stream _"Fawlty Towers",_ because of the Major using the s.c. _"n-word" a couple times._
Such silly times we live in.
The episode finally did get restored but with a disclaimer.
I think that _"Little Britain"_ suffered the same fate. But instead of just removing a single episode, the whole show was removed.
Stand-up seems to be the only niche left were comedy is still sort of free from wokeism.

I heard John say he was once in a hotel in Berlin when a German guest shouted to him 'Don't mention the War mr Fawlty'...However I believe the real contentious part was where the major was telling basil about attending a cricket match and his reference to the Indian and West Indias teams....Heinrich Heine once wrote' where one burns books , one will in the end Burn people'....This of course was reference to the Nazi party burning books that didn't suit the ideology ........What is happening now is censorship, not of ideology but a small groups blind hatred........Fucking millennials

Arguably the greatest, most extreme 3 minutes of comedy in the whole history of British comedy. I remember when it was first broadcast in c.1971 I was nearly dying with laughter by about the time it got to the 'hors d'oeuvres' and then when Basil did the 'silly walk' I became a virtual hospital case. I could hardly breathe ... I nearly ended up in Reading Hospital I think.

He said - I have been to your country before. All I can do now, is offer you a drink. In German, of course. He then poured me a glass of schnaps. We clinked glasses, and he said "may we never ever fight again". That man is dead now, but I saw in his eyes regret. He was a peaceful man, with no wish for war.

Yeah, the Germans did indeed changed many street names after WW2 and that’s why you don’t walk on Adolf Hitler-Platz or Adolf Hitler Strasse. They removed those names, and indeed, amazingly, nobody has forgotten who Adolf Hitler was! It’s all about the difference between remembering a person or event or celebrating it. In Spain, many streets with the names of Franco’s top men were changed, though many remained.
In any case, if remembrance is the goal, fucking street names aren’t going to change anything. I doubt you know who even a fifth of the people whose names are near where you live, and if you do, I doubt you know them because of the street name.
I live in Madrid, and some years ago the left-leaning Mayor changed quite a lot of street names. Names like General Mola, the general who started the coup that brought the civil war, or Calvo Sotelo, who elaborated the “constitution” in place during Antonio de Rivera’s dictatorship, or Primero de Octubre, the date that Franco was named chief of State. There was quite a bit of controversy about it, and disagreement about whether names like Augustín de Foxá, who wrote the Falange’s himn but was also an author, should be removed. Nobody has forgotten this historical stuff by the way. We study these people in school. We know the date Franco was made head of State.
I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a debate around which street names to change or which statues to remove, but this idea that changing street names is bad and something the commies and SJWs do to stop people remembering their history is how you end up walking down “Adolf Hitler-Platz” or “Calle General Mola” or other pretty questionable types that should by all means be remembered, but not celebrated by having their own street signs.
Do you also feel the same about Poland changing street names because of de-communisation or are those perfectly fine because it’s not the commies who are doing it?
