Lyrics "cleaned up" for television, but still one of the greatest Christmas songs ever. Shane has obviously had a few but Shane is Shane. Kirsty's powerful voice takes this song to the next level. Other women have done covers but none come close to Kirsty. Now that they're both no longer with us makes the song even more poignant. RIP Shane and Kirsty.
One of the most realistic that's what makes it good. The holidays trying to force people disgusted with each other to make nice. Highest rates of suicide are that time of year not just the lack of daylight but those unrealistic expectations are really depressing.
Amazing to think Shane lived another 30 years after this. He looked perpetually on the verge of keeling over even back then. Still the greatest lyric writer in my opinion x
This song would not have been as popular without the great and talented and beautiful Kristy singing with Shane what a perfect pair for this beautiful song.RIP to both of them i hope they are in heaven and singing with the angels.God bless all here.🙏🇮🇪🇺🇸
May they both be singing this song in the next world! The best Christmas song of all time, it never feels like Christmas til ye hear this song. Though right now when I hear it I shed a tear for Shane's passing! A true legend who will live on forever through his music ❤☘️❤
Maybe one radio station in the US, will someday have enough guts to play this incredible Christmas Song! Reminds me of my 8th Christmas as a child and my parents😢.
You are correct Sir! The video w/ Kirsty and Shane having at it is one of my favorite mini-movies. Who would have thought that Kirsty would have gone first and Shane would still be among us top side and not the other way round?
@@hollydobbie5753 yeah that was it, but apparentlyt he guy who said he was at fault was more than likely paid to take the blame. he also only got 2 yeras in prison for it but was allowed to pay a fine and avoid inprisonment entirely. so messed up
Damn, this was awesome! Haven't seen it in a long time. Now the two of them can sing it for everyone in the afterlife! RIP Shane MacGowan & Kirsty MacColl! You were both loved and still loved in this life!!
Such a bittersweet Christmas classic. Reminds me of the 80’s, when I still had my baby sis. Now she celebrates with the angels. 🌹🕊 Christmas isn’t the same without her. We make the most of it in her honor. Love you, Rhonda ✨👼🏼✨🎄❤️💚
I can't explain what feeling this song gives me, I get shivers every time I listen to it and think of every good memory around Christmas time, thanks Shane and kirsty
This is an extraordinarily well written song featuring the shattering of dreams of this couple and the guy is older, in the drunk tank while bells are ringing out for someone else’s Xmas, not theirs. Shatteringly powerful emotion.
I don't think anyone could imagine Shane out living Kristy. Shane has battled his addiction to drink his whole life and Kristy died protecting her son on vacation. 21 years next week.... amazing person, women and a hero ...
Ignoring a lot of the details the absolute travesty that was the follow-up failure of the Mexican "justice," system to hold the multimillionaire who killed her accountable... her family did a HELL of a lot in the aftermath to not only seek justice, but to work to fix a lot of the issues that contributed to her untimely death. Including raising a substantial amount of money for a number of charities, both based in and working in Mexico (among others), believing (i think correctly) that its what Kristy would have done/wanted. Her legacy is one of heroism, and its a shame it had to be that way.
The forthrightness of the lyrics and the paradoxical tenderness with which you managed to perform to one another in this - breathtaking! Rejoice In Paradise, both of you! x
I love this song! and the sad thing is as f*cked up as Shane was back in the day he never missed his cues on this song, that's how much he enjoyed singing it with Kirsty
I wil love this song forever 💕 now my children sing it in their school. The greatest Christmas song ever written by one of the greatest poets of our time. This will still be sung in 200 years. Thank you for sharing your amazing gift with us Shane McGowan. RIP to both you and beautiful Kirsty Mc Coll . Merry Christmas 2023 to everyone xx
September, start of the "Ber" months. As a Filipino it's a trope that it's the start of the Philippine Christmas Season. This song, recommended to me on RUclips, though a personal Holiday favourite, is not as popular in the Philippines. The Algorithm knows me too well.
I can’t believe they are singing live! Thanks for uploading this video! Seeing Kirsty always fills my heart with joy and sadness. Such a tragic loss...
It's only ignorance showing, when someone dislikes this because it's a great moment in history. Thank you for the vid and take care of yourselves please, Mate
I'm sure a lot of people are not aware that Kirsty Maccall was the daughter of singer/song writer Ewen Maccall. He was born in Glasgow but raised in Salford, which is now part of Greater Manchester. His most famous song is Dirty Old Town which he wrote about Salford, although many people think its an Irish song
I nominate "The first time I ever saw your face" as Ewan MacColls best known song. If you want some trivia - Roy Hodgson, ex-England football manager, was a PE teacher at Kirsty MacColl's school.
Dirty Ol` Town was written for a musical...another Ewans songs "The Shoals Of Herring" was written for a BBC documentary , plenty of people here in the UK are aware of Kirstys background by the way .
I have to thank Jason Kelce for introducing me to this song...I have played several times this holiday season...it is on the to of my list now...may they rest in eternal peace
Thankyou Joe..one of the reasons I love this song is because I know all through it that Jesus Christ loves the two folks portrayed in the lyrics...Shane is still here against all the odds, folks say it's a "Miracle" but I've never heard them say from God..the thing about Miracles is..they really do happen in the most unlikely way & my Faith makes me truly believe the only one they're from is Our Lord..Happy New Year to you and your family Joe ...
