I knew my options: Take my daily beating; whine to the teacher; take another for whining to the teacher (wash, rinse, repeat) -- OR -- Pick the biggest bully and knock his fucking teeth out for him. I went with option #2, against the (alleged) better advice of my elders. And it worked. I haven't had to fight off another bully in 42 years. I assume it works the same for girls. It is SO SO SO SO SOOOOO difficult to speak out about assaults and rape. I know from years of lived experience when i was molested at 13 and raped at 16. I am 37 now. And it is STILL difficult to openly talk about these things because a lot of people are programmed to question victims. One can go on living for years "looking happy and successful" and still be carrying that burden of rape/assault memory. It is scary as hell to speak about these things. BRAVERY indeed 😭

How many young victims would have been spared had just a handful of victims had gone to the police when they could have, but chose not to?
