This video showcases why Mike Stewart is The GOAT of Bodyboarding. Not only was his riding on another level to the other competitors, but look at how many waves he caught and his wave selection. Impressive!
Amazing that they were able to ride these barrels on the Mach 7's... plain PE core with surlyn skin in warm water... Unless at this point they already were all really just using their individual pro models made to look like a Morey Mach 7. Pipe is so heavy. Even my polypropylene board with a stringer was super flexible at Pipe.
Well personally l think the main reason they were riding with such flow and style was cause they had plain pe and surlyn slick. I think the oldshool more flex bodyboarding had so much more style than newschool stiff boards. Todays riding looks more forced and not as fluid. I know stewart agrees with this too. Ive actually had some of my newer pp pipe boards made extra thin with no stringer and they have way more flex but ride much better. Way more control
if you wasnt from that time you will never know. it was just another way to ride a wave. bodyboards now days are shit and dead feeling. yes i know why. the 1st string put in was in 1990 by Bert Kuwahara. Maui Hawaii Rep.
Polyethylene back then was denser and stronger, but the Dow corporation had to change the formulation due to new environmental regulations. Boards were also thicker back then. So boards weren't as flexible and had more volume back then.

Light years ahead ALL the others guys!
EPIC! Timeless riding styles. Jack the Ripper exits a barrel in the intro- knockout!
Flex is key. Epic

@@yodamday3745 exactly. I agree. Boards now are crap. I wrote a comment explaining this same situation aswell.👍

Hi, could someone help telling who are the music artists behind the music of these incredible videos ? so many things never heard out of it, thx
If you had a pair of Churchill’s you were a baller.
Damn things were close to $40 a pair...back in '88!! Had to have 'em though, couldn't paddle out wearin' snorkeling flippers, oh HELL'S NO!
The spit will leave maaaahks on your back.
100% Mike S.
