Good day, I am an training instructor for a shipping company and have conducting training for seafarers for the past two decades but still, I have to admit that there are times that I feel that I am not at my best when making my presentations and the simple tips that you mention are quite important especially in my line of work as I handle ship officers and crew who must bring with them the important learnings when going onboard ships. I am from the Philippines and training is my passion and I simply wanted to make a difference as an instructor. By the way I am not a technical person but I teach mental health and soft skills. Looking forward for more helpful videos. Thank you.
I was so scared about my presentation tomorrow, but after watching this video I feel a little bit confident on my gestures and body language! This video helps me so much and thank you!
Mr. Lyon, your video was valuable in preparing my presentation. I put these methods and recommendations for non-verbal body language into practice, and my presentation was a success. Practicing and adding these three tips made me look and feel confident and calm during my presentation. Thank you for your advice.
This is something I'm gonna practice today! I actually am the worst at fidgeting and moving. I think it's because I'm so nervous. I also tend to rock which is very distracting. Thanks for a great video , i have a good place to start learning!
It's so interesting how these tips are so similar to what proper singing technique requires. As a vocal coach it was fun to watch this and see how it relates to singing 😊
@@alexanderlyon I survived the presentation! My nerves sometimes get the best of me, but I kept your tips top of mind as I was presenting and that helped.
@@howardcorporatecentrellc4178 Great to hear! Thanks for updating us. I'm glad the tips helped you. I hope you continue to look for speaking opportunities. When people see a strong public speaker, they think to themselves, "That's good leadership!"
I do presentation online and since I turned off my camera, my anxiety is gone 👍 Beside that, thanks for this informative video. Joking aside, I have a huge trouble making eye contact and I know I need to take baby steps with this in particular.
Thank you sir first time I visited your channel I watched your full video you are good coach for improvement communication skills I am very happy 😄this video is very important for all beginners
The best basic position is to push in to the table, sit up straight, and keep your hands on the table so you can gesture freely as you talk (don't keep hands on your lap below the table).
@@alexanderlyon thank you for replying But what if there is no table? Because i’m taking my national assessment collaboration exam in which i need to talk to the patient/the examiner about a case and you need to act like a doctor for it so i need to display empathy, knowledge, and communications and there aren’t any tables there. If possible can you help me with how i cam gesture my hands and to communicate with the patient better?
I have a presentation on the topic of body language when presenting to about 30 students and I want to include a little game in it. Can you suggest me a game or activity that all students can participate in for a few minutes that is related to what you're talking about? Because I find your techniques very interesting and I want to include it in my presentation to share with my friends. Please and thank you.❤
The biggest obstacle is not letting yourself get stuck behind the computer. Advance the slide and come right back out and engage your audience. If you have too many slides to do that, I'd personally cut down on the number of slides to free yourself up to engage more directly. I've never heard an audience that complained about too few slides yet. Speakers often feel they need to be slide heavy but audiences can live without them.
Also, if you want to be totally free to move, I'd look into a remote or "PowerPoint clicker" as some people call them. They are not much money and you can roam around more.
It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you want people to respond, then ask the question in a way that clearly lets them know that. But, usually, you'd want to keep those question simple so they can answer simply by raising their hands or something very easy like that. But, it still has risks. For instance, I would not ask questions where they had to generate detailed answers in the middle of my presentation. That is a risky move because sometimes I've seen audience members essentially start to dominate somebody's presentations.

Hello
When we sit in the chair how we do posture and gesture?
The best basic position is to push in to the table, sit up straight, and keep your hands on the table so you can gesture freely as you talk (don't keep hands on your lap below the table).
@@alexanderlyon thank you for replying

I personally like to excersise before presenting. Specially weights or some type of core exercises. I feel like my posture it's much better that way
What about a dance? Would it help to appear more condident. I believe it helps , a small dance at the end of the presentation
Thank you so much for this video, you are the best!
Thanks that was a very nice video, but the nodding thing was new for me and as well as very interesting, I'm gonna apply it from now on :)

what if you have to advance slides in a power point?

One of the things my friend told me for posture is to talk with your hands
I did this and I completely forgot that swaying existed
is it proper for us to ask questions when presenting and wait for response????
