Part 1: Vampires and Solar Martial Arts! That's just Bizarre. Part 2: Biokinetic Cavemen vs Nazis vs The Pluckiest Solar Martial Arts user in Town! Now that's Bizarre! Part 3: Psychic Pokemon Battles of Death: WORLD TOUR! Totally Bizarre!
Stands do start pretty basic if still quite weird this season. It isn't until later parts that they get better fleshed out and become much more intertwined with the characters' stories/personalities turning them into integral elements that tell more about their user. Same thing with their designs. On part 3 they look more unique if somewhat monstrous in some cases, but from part 4 onwards their design gets more consolidated and distinctively Jojo. I think that's a strong point of the series since whenever you see a stand from the later parts it's almost impossible to mistake it for something else from another series. Also the reason the characters are so big and buff is because it was the style at the time. Araki (The author) drew a lot of inspiration from series like Fist of the North Star where protagonists used to be muscle brick houses despite being 15 years old. On later parts Araki realize that due to the existence of stands characters don't need to be so physically built, allowing him to play with leaner builds. Furthermore, one thing that might be a bit jarring, is that on a later part there are flashbacks where people talk about the events of this part and Jotaro himself shows up in that lean style. Part 4 actually starts with a buffed up protagonist but turns up leaner later on. The series adapts it by making the character lean from the very start for consistency. You could say that the buffed up is also a stylistic liberty not meant to represent how they actually are, except for Joseph if only for the Mexican woman disguise where the soldiers tell him he's canonically built like a brick house, because it's funny.
Welcome to Part 3 Matt! Good luck on your adventure! Not sure if someone has told you this already. But The reason as to how Joseph has a Stand, could simply be put like this. This information was made many years later after Phantom Blood, so it may seem out of place. The most I can explain, is that all Hamon Users also do count as having potential to be stand users. This is because the way they convert the sunlight energy, is through their own versions of ‘vines’. It does seem wierd. But yes, this would mean Jonathan might have had a stand. But When people are in the early stages of having their stands, they are not fully manifested yet. However, you can still see traces of it appearing. People also made theories that the reason why we don’t see stands in the earlier parts, is because we are seeing it through the eyes of normal Non-Stand users. If you are able to master Hamon. It gives you a better chance in manifesting a stand. This is why Joseph’s Daughter, Holly’s Stand looks different, yet still resembling a vine. We can be sure to say that She potentially inherited the ability to use Hamon from Joseph. But never knew what it was, and never utilized it.
I was actually flabbergasted years ago that, Dio's coffin was found near the place i live... like... those islands are usually forgotten, and the friking show just did that. Anyway, this is were jojo starts getting weird as hell, prepare yourself to see some random things. Have fun!
Can I explain it to you 🥺, So Basically if you remember Dio was just a head when he was on the boat, so after Jonathan died Dio took over his body by slicing Jonathan's head and Attaching his own, So now Dio has Jonathan's body but His own head.....
Also Every human has a chance of getting a stand, without spoiling it I'll just say That stands are a disease at first which give you insane deathly fever, and if you survive that fever you gain a stand based on your life, personality, behaviour, attitude, Mood, etc, BUT in the case of the joestar's, (Joseph, jotaro and holly) They gained the stand because of the blood linkage, Because Dio stabbed himself with a arrow which had the stand disease, And because he got a stand so did all of the joestar Lineage, All of this is non - spoiler and Limited, I've not used specific terms for stuffs and left out 99% of the details. Please read this.
That canister isn't air, it's fuel for a blow torch (what they used to open the lock, it wasn't in the chest/coffin). DIO doesn't need air, he's a vampire
Since this part is longer than the two before, I'll list the musical references episode by episode instead of a recap at the last episode: - Jotaro's father is not in the manga at all but he's named Sadao Kujo. We never see him, thoughn it's not a spoiler. His name is probably a reference to Sadao Watanabe, a Japanse Jazz Musician. - Muhammad Avdol is named after Paula Abdul, and american singer. (Also, with japanese accent, "Avdol" is simply pronounced like "Abdul") - Magician's Red, the stand of Avdol, may have been designed after Uriah Heep's "The Magician's Birthday" - Jotaro's Stand may have been designed after Bazilian Group Nenhúm de NósW's "The Marble Astronaut" (For the last ones, it's only speculative, there are no official confirmation) Also, it's not a MUSICAL reference, but Jotaro's stand design is a reference to Baoh, another manga drawn by Araki before JoJo. Baoh is the name of the transformed form of the protagonist, and looks a lot like Jotaro's Stand.
1. Dio was reduced to just a head so he took over Jonathan's body. Its not entirely clear how he survived a 100 years below the sea but he is a vampire, undead so eh. 2. In case you confused about the whole "Body sends distress signal": SOME - not all, just SOME - families in JoJo have a sort of psychic connection and can basically sense each other to various degrees. Joestar family is one of such examples.
So, briefly and without spoilers: Dio's head and the dying Jonathan were next to the coffin on the ship. SOMEHOW Dio sewed himself in place of Jonathan's head and climbed into the coffin (in which Erina then floated away SOMEHOW). A hundred years later, Dio returned and Jonathan's body began to send the abilities of the stands through the bloodline.

the frequent (and thus frequently localized/censored) song references start in the next part. the only one i can think of for part 3, that is localized, is vanilla ice (and his stand, cream.) (i try to use a site without any censorship due to this, aniwave(.)to has the blu-ray version up until part 6. basically; no censorship and better animation.) p.s. every hamon user will get a stand similar to joseph's, so no, stands aren't exactly linked to hamon.
Mattables, congratulations on starting "Jojo S3reaction" and thank you. I was waiting for you to come to S3. From this S3, the story will speed up at once! I like your reaction the most! I think Japanese JoJo fans other than me will also be happy with your reaction.
@@Mattables I heavily and humbly suggest that you watch all of the parts after part 2 in the English dub. Although dubbed vs subbed comes down to preference, when it comes to JOJO it can be really hard to keep up, and with what I have seen from your other reaction videos you sometimes miss what is happening or don’t quite understand what is happening in some of the really complicated scenes (This is in no way an insult against you, you make awesome vids and this is simply what happens to many people when they watch JOJO) In the end it doesn’t matter to much which you pick, as long as you’re enjoying this amazing series, and hey if you don’t fully understand something then one of us would be glad to help.
All explanations possibly needed (no spoiler at all): - When the ship explosed at the end of Part 1, Erina was on the coffin, open, floating in the sea with baby lisa lisa in her hands. However, Dio (now stylized as DIO, very important detail (no, not that much)), used his head tentacles thing to behead jonathan and steal his body, and hide in the coffin, under the false bottom we can see in the shot of the opened chest/coffin on the boat in this episode. They opened it just as the night was coming, so he could take off and not be exposed to the sun, as he's still a vampire. So yeah, the last shot of Phantom Blood actually features Dio, hidden under Erina. - Phantom Blood ended in 1888 (in universe, of course), and Stardust Crusaders starts in 1988, so it's actually been 100 years before Dio was free again. But this compressed air tube thingy was probably from the boat people who were diving and found this chest. Dio is a vampire, I'm not sure he even needs air anyway. - The star birthmark was introduced there in the manga, but was added in parts 1 and 2 by the animation team, so you can tsee in the scenes and openings that they indeed have this birthmark, that's pretty cool. - It's not explained in the manga itself, but Araki, the mangaka, said that Hermit Purple was the manifestation of Hamon as a Stand, so if Lisa Lisa, Jonathan, or Ceasar had a stand, it would be hermit purple too. or with a similar name, but still the same or extremely similar ability and same aspect or purple thorny vines thing - Avdol is pronounced Abdul, because... japanese accent, i huess. - Jotaro isn't actually a "bad boy" as in he's not an asshole. In his Book Manga in Theory & Practice, Araki stated that he felt that making a main character immoral wouldn't click with the audience of a story, he took the example of part 5's jojo, who, without spoiling too much, wants to join mafia to end drug dealing from the inside. HOWEVER this book is pretty old now, and he visibly changed his mind on this exact statement, as part 9 started about a year ago, and the new jojo is a litteral drug dealer, doing criminal activities and doesn't give a shit about anything.
The reason the chest was empty when others arrived and the boat was empty aswell is because the passangers opened it and dio murdered them, then left, so when someone found the boat and coffin, it appeared like nothing was ever there
So.... I think for future reference regarding stands.... don't take the constraints brought up in Stardust crusaders too seriously. The main points that really matter are: - Stands typically represent a persons spirit.... I would say 'fighting spirit' but...... that's not inherently correct. You'll understand as the show goes on, the abilities tend to reflect the stand users personality and strengths. - Stand users typically attract other stand users. Stands sound complicated. Honestly, some are complete BS, but treat them like a power system than anything deeper for now.
@@Mattables i mean this is your bizarre adventure, experience it how you want, I just figured I should mention the accents being gone because I know it was a problem for you in the first two parts

LOL!!! I love that xD
great video as always! also, about stands, only stand users can interact with and see stands, HOWEVER, some stands are bound to physical objects so normal people can see them
3:19 I don’t know if the translation is correct here…. In every other subs it said Jotaro literally crushed their balls.
Have fun!
You got it correct, Dio survived by stealing Jonathan's body
JOE-taro. Stress the first syllable and you'll get used to it more quickly.
Can I explain it to you 🥺,
So Basically if you remember Dio was just a head when he was on the boat, so after Jonathan died Dio took over his body by slicing Jonathan's head and Attaching his own, So now Dio has Jonathan's body but His own head.....
Also Every human has a chance of getting a stand, without spoiling it I'll just say That stands are a disease at first which give you insane deathly fever, and if you survive that fever you gain a stand based on your life, personality, behaviour, attitude, Mood, etc,
BUT in the case of the joestar's, (Joseph, jotaro and holly) They gained the stand because of the blood linkage, Because Dio stabbed himself with a arrow which had the stand disease, And because he got a stand so did all of the joestar Lineage,
All of this is non - spoiler and Limited, I've not used specific terms for stuffs and left out 99% of the details. Please read this.
That canister isn't air, it's fuel for a blow torch (what they used to open the lock, it wasn't in the chest/coffin). DIO doesn't need air, he's a vampire
Jotaro has a soft gooey center lol
i just got recommended your jojo openings reaction will definitely be watching this series from now on
btw stand are the materialisation presence of the personality of the character, same for their abilitys 👍
11:45 Avdol is supposed to be Abdul as in Paula Abdul
He just took Jonathan body, is pretty simple. Their bodies were pretty similar (Jonathan was a bit bigger), so thats way it doesn't look Dio changed.
Lets go these videos make my day. Cant wait till you finish season 3
Since this part is longer than the two before, I'll list the musical references episode by episode instead of a recap at the last episode:
- Jotaro's father is not in the manga at all but he's named Sadao Kujo. We never see him, thoughn it's not a spoiler. His name is probably a reference to Sadao Watanabe, a Japanse Jazz Musician.
- Muhammad Avdol is named after Paula Abdul, and american singer. (Also, with japanese accent, "Avdol" is simply pronounced like "Abdul")
- Magician's Red, the stand of Avdol, may have been designed after Uriah Heep's "The Magician's Birthday"
- Jotaro's Stand may have been designed after Bazilian Group Nenhúm de NósW's "The Marble Astronaut"
(For the last ones, it's only speculative, there are no official confirmation)
Also, it's not a MUSICAL reference, but Jotaro's stand design is a reference to Baoh, another manga drawn by Araki before JoJo. Baoh is the name of the transformed form of the protagonist, and looks a lot like Jotaro's Stand.
Baoh also had the arm blades before Kars.
We can assume Dio Brando used his chimara fusing skills on himself and Jonathan to become D I O
Look forward into watching you until you get to the end of Jojo! You may be the only person i enjoy watching reacting to other things.
if u think the family tree here is nuts, wait until u watch part 8 hahahahaha
You finally get to figure out what the tarot cards in the ending are
OH MY GOD! THATS RIGHT!
Its Joe-tehr-ro not jo-tar-o lol
If you loved Young Joseph you're going to fucking adore Old Joseph and other character that will appear in 3 or 4 episodes more or less
This guy ask so much he really wanted spoiler😭
pretty sure the air thing was to get the lock open
Back to back jojo, huh, wish we could get this consistency with hasbin😂jk
no, jojo's are big just bc they have a lot of muscles, it's not bc of the Hamon, not every jojo are buffed like that, most of them, but at certain point, u'll see the jojo's with less muscles (a lil bit)
Now then this is where the fun begins
So his name is actually Mohammed abdul, referencing the singer Paula Abdul
the next 47 episodes are hell of a ride. I hope you're ready 😏
Jotaro is good at stealth, huh?
fret not, my dearest Mattables. you can just pronounce his name as 'Joe-tuh-row'
Heh, Matt, you're learning. ;) Have you got any questions? I'll gladly answer them. Consider me a fresh JoJoctor here. ;) XD (not a JoJossor yet. pfftt)
And my favorite part begins!
Why is he saying Joe-tah-row😭
And here we go
Just wanted to let you know that episodes 15 and 17 are not currently in the JJBA Playlist.
Fixed!! thank you for letting me know!!
WE MADE IT!
Joe - tuh - roe
So glad you made it to this point! Stands are a major game changer content-wise
I absolutely love how delighted you are to see DIO back in action (from this point foreward you are now legally required to refer to DIO in all caps. XD)
The glee is infectious. hehehe.
the frequent (and thus frequently localized/censored) song references start in the next part. the only one i can think of for part 3, that is localized, is vanilla ice (and his stand, cream.)
(i try to use a site without any censorship due to this, aniwave(.)to has the blu-ray version up until part 6. basically; no censorship and better animation.)
p.s. every hamon user will get a stand similar to joseph's, so no, stands aren't exactly linked to hamon.
Yeah this season was mostly tarot cards and Egyptian gods. The censorship can sometimes be pretty funny though like with D4C for example.
@@Ashurman666 flaccid pancake
@@the-postal-dude I still like D4C's better but that one is great too
AHH!! FINALLY!! this is where the exciting stuff comes in!! this part will be hell of a journey!! 🔥🔥🔥
I love your reaction, your questions are all so interesting though 😂😂😂
L'ets go part 3 !!!
11:31
another reason I prefer animesuge
Mattables, congratulations on starting "Jojo S3reaction" and thank you. I was waiting for you to come to S3. From this S3, the story will speed up at once!
I like your reaction the most! I think Japanese JoJo fans other than me will also be happy with your reaction.
yare yare daze
Heyo you probably aren’t but I just wanna ask if your ever gonna watch this in the English version
a few people brought it up, so I will ask in the next few episodes!
And now we can TRULY say… welcome to Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
You said the new JoJos name wrong.
All Stands in Part 3 are named based on the Tarot deck. Part 4 and onward are song and band references.
Jo-tuh-ro
All explanations possibly needed (no spoiler at all):
- When the ship explosed at the end of Part 1, Erina was on the coffin, open, floating in the sea with baby lisa lisa in her hands.
- It's not explained in the manga itself, but Araki, the mangaka, said that Hermit Purple was the manifestation of Hamon as a Stand, so if Lisa Lisa, Jonathan, or Ceasar had a stand, it would be hermit purple too. or with a similar name, but still the same or extremely similar ability and same aspect or purple thorny vines thing
- Avdol is pronounced Abdul, because... japanese accent, i huess.
The reason the chest was empty when others arrived and the boat was empty aswell is because the passangers opened it and dio murdered them, then left, so when someone found the boat and coffin, it appeared like nothing was ever there
Nice
part3🔥🔥🔥rrrah🇪🇬
He
So.... I think for future reference regarding stands.... don't take the constraints brought up in Stardust crusaders too seriously.
The main points that really matter are:
- Stands typically represent a persons spirit....
IIRC Avdol's name sake is Paula Abdul. (The singer/actor)
ZA WORLDO
I'm surprised you didn't switch to the Dub now that the accents are gone
everyone said they sub was fun bc it was different from the usual sub, unless thats over now.
@@Mattables i mean this is your bizarre adventure, experience it how you want, I just figured I should mention the accents being gone because I know it was a problem for you in the first two parts
@@PhinMuraI'm sure people want him to watch it in sub cause of the iconic dialogues like "Yare yare daze", "Za warudo" which in dub obviously isn't fun tbh!
"Stands are basically an amalgamation of hamon" Bro not EVERYTHING is related to hamon, it literally got ditched on part 3 with hamon being used like, what, twice? Stands are a different power from hamon... 13:32
Dio survived because he is a vampire
all the main abilities in this part are named after Tarot Cards
Another thing if no one told you yet, each part, you gotta wait until the second episode to hear the openings and outros
Jo-turr-o
That’s how most people pronounce it I feel
By the way the way Jotaro's name is supposed to be pronounced is "Joe-ta-ro"
can't wait to see your reactions for this part!
