Rumkale takes its name from the historical castle located on a peninsula within the borders of Nizip district of Gaziantep, which was born with the formation of the Nizip-Birecik Dam lake. The castle is on a hill covered with high rocks, where the Euphrates River and Merzimen Stream meet.
Due to its strategic location in the region, the area around Rumkale was also inhabited during the Med, Persian, Hellenistic and Roman periods. Hz. It is rumored that Johannes (John), one of the apostles of Jesus, made Rumkale his residence during the Roman period and copied copies of the Bible in a room carved from the rock.

It is among the regions affected by the construction of the Birecik Dam and was flooded after the dam. Despite this situation, the region has not lost its historical value and has its own authentic structure with its stone-carved houses. The most striking point in the village is the mosque minaret, whose body is submerged in water.
