Here is my take on the car review. In this video, I inspect a high mileage and modified 1987 190e 2.3-16. I found some issues, we fixed some issues and then I review and drive the car. It's like a full-service car review! Enjoy!

I used to work with a guy who was a Mercedes mechanic, they sent him to Germany, and to Bosch to learn everything about those fuel systems. We worked for a salvage car rebuilding company. They must have bought and sold 30 older clean title Mercedes that ran like shit and people wanted to trade in for something on the lot. Would take him legit 10 minutes to get them running like a top. I'll see if I can get in touch with him and see if there are any resources available that explain the system, he said it's INSANE easy, and tunable to supply as much fuel as anyone could ever need.

Im an ex Saab Master Tech and did all my training on early 900 8v turbos with K Jetronic. Such an easy system to maintain.

    • @az.................
      @az................. 2 года назад +9

The theory of K-Jetronic was fairly "simple", but by the 80s all the smog requirements meant that there were a bunch of electro-mechanical components added to the mix. Even with the earlier cars there are a lot of delicate moving parts that get gummed up over time - it's like a feedback carburetor with fuel injectors hanging off the side. You also need tools that weren't common in the US then (and probably still aren't) like a 10-bar fuel pressure gauge with some odd sized fittings.
Lots of the Volvo service manuals used to be available online (on the k-jet site), looks like they're gone now. Some of the Mercedes stuff is still available on that workshop-manuals site but it's been poorly digitized.
      Check your email, Alex.

I remember seeing some GTC cars racing at Kyalami South Africa in the 80's/90's somewhere. The Benz 190 2.3-16 was there, but the E30 M3 was king!!!

Recently,i did replace my brakes and was so easy.
Fuel system on those it's a nightmare (KE-Jetronic mechanical injection)

If it is like a manual Mk 1 Ford Escort box you should be able to accelerate through the box with the throttle full open all the way. Just slam the clutch on off fast; but get your gear change timing right or you"ll bend a valve.

I tell you when I sold my Duratec powered 01 Sable Wagon I had a moment too. I loved that car owned it for 7.5 years and had so many family memories including taking my 3rd daughter home from the hospital after a health scare that led to a longer hospital stay. It was really sad to see it go but I needed something bigger for the family. If you are a car person, you form emotional bonds with cars you like. I can't say I would have that with the Odyssey I own now........

The timing chain looked new after, drove excellent too.

A gray 190E presented Ayrton Senna to the rest of the world when he as just starting racing internationally and in a event sponsored by Mercedes and the FIA.
Dude who just had made one test in F1 at the time raced in one of these against legends like Alain Prost,Jaqque Lafitte and the great Nikki Lauda and ended first place.
The rest is history, but the legend started in one of these.

Bro, I love that! I just picked up a family owned 2001 E430 with 147000 miles that is cleaner and drives better than my E55! It’s painfully original and was dealer maintained at auto Stiegler Encino most of its life and even still had a genuine Mercedes air filter and an unopened factory first-aid kit when I got it. It has the usual minor issues and needs a window regulator and a door lock bellows but everything else including the sunshade all work. The car runs very well after doing an oil flush and Liqui-Moly oil and Ceratec additive and a tank of 93 octane and fuel system cleaner it just keeps getting better the more I drive it. The E55 got jealous and decided to blow an AirMatic strut getting gas the other night and it was nice to have another car to drive while I was waiting for my BC racing coil conversion to come in form FCP Euro. The E55 is back on the road and I have to do brakes and the window regulator along with the lock bellows on the 430 this weekend and I will leave the door panels off for my dent guy to get out a few dings but that’s about all it needs. It’s 040 black with anthracite to match the E55 and the interior is more or less perfect with the factory floor mats and odd alligator clips that poke through the carpet to keep the mats in place. I just love that ‘old car smell’ it has and it has a certain quality about it that you just feel special driving it and after 25+ hours of paint correction and headlight restoration, it came out beautiful and gets looks everywhere I go in it. It gets more attention than the E55 and thanks to you, I now own 2 soon to be classic Mercedes that I would have never considered had I not stumbled across your channel 2 years ago. Thanks for all the great content, Alex and I look forward to your next project!

I absolutely love these cars, it hurt just having to sell my 91 e300 so I can imagine the past owners pain, We definitely need a vid of an old 625csi shark next, I remember getting one back in middle school from my neighbor who was a Sony engineer for some plumbing work as a trade my father and I did, and the cool thing was, (Clif) my neighbor installed a 350 Chevy engine with a b&m ratchet shiftter, and when put in drive the ass would drop. Boy was that one sweet ass Shark! It was red with penut butter leather interior and it smelled so good getting into that car. I miss it dearly!

That dampener at 11:14 usually goes unnoticed since it only dampens the leftover vibration to the steering wheel slightly and smoothens the feel of steering.

Sweet MB!! Although I’ve grown to hate ceramic pads. So much less bite compared to semi metallic. At least in my car. I took off a set of akebono pads and went with centric euro spec semi metallic. The hotter they get. The harder they bite. No noise. Also the ceramic made a weird sound on my rear drilled and slotted rotors. Like a clicking sound when they got hot. Noise is gone after the switch back.

It's a good idea to bleed the clutch too. It uses brake fluid from the same reservoir as the brakes. It's a commonly forgotten part of the service.
