  • I am planting Kentucky Bluegrass seed. This is a mono culture stand of Everest Bluegrass. This bluegrass is a super elite variety from Jacklin Seed by Simplot. I purchased this grass seed from United Seeds.
This was seeded at a rate of 3 lbs per every 1000 sq ft.

There's always that sort of anxious feeling from when you are about to spray it with glyphosate and then again when you spread the seed. After you see them coming up then that bit of anxiety is gone. I just went through this with a spring reno and about to drop seed again for the area past the sidewalk.

I use only a drop spreader for seeding. I’d have done the whole thing on 5 and ordered more seed. I’ve never believed that you could overdo seeding and have never had a bad outcome because I did. I’ve always had a seven year cycle for seeding. I seed for three years in a row twice per year and just feed my lawn every six weeks for the next four.

I love my monostand Everest KBG. I will say, if I had your square footage, I wouldn't care to afford what I do to it in order to maintain it so short. While I know it may encourage you to do something silly, I keep it at .330" all year. I only have 3,000 square feet of it, and I treat it nearly identically to my .175" bentgrass green, so it gets LOTS of love and attention. Its just so dang dark it's beautiful. Particularly in contrast with with bentgrass which is a bit lighter. Just awesome, awesome turf.

Jacklin seed used to be 10 minutes from my house until they moved to Ephrata Washington. They had test plots outside the building that was the most beautiful grass you ever laid eyes on. I am considering Everest and Award seed, but it will without a doubt be Jacklin seed. I cant wait to see the results in your lawn.

Connor: have you ever considered "slit seeding"? I tried the whole broadcast spreader, rake it in deal on more than one occasion.. I simply didn't have the turnout I expected. I've been using a slit seeder, double passing with straight Kentucky Blue for the past few years and the results are 10 fold better than anything else. I lose almost no seed since I've got 95% or more seed to soil contact. Then I hit it with a heavy dose of 21-7-7 fert and watch the magic happen!.

I have a combination of MIDNIGHT, BEWITCHED & BLUE NOTE on its way I only needed 25 pounds. My front lawn is infested with wild Bermuda. This crap grass is in full bloom and will DIE DIE DIE quickly without harming what KBG has been smothered by it. Once it's dead or mostly dead I will cut it down to about an inch if I can and apply about 4 pounds per thousand. Tenacity, Surfactent & Blue marking agent should be here Monday. The backyard is amazing and will just get an over seeding of grasses that are rust resistant one of the grass seed cultivars is on the Mall in Washington DC. All 3 grass seed cultivars are blue label and sod quality. It's the most I've spent in seed 25 pounds $217.00

So my neighbor just killed mostly his weeds (crabgrass and kyllinga etc.). To get the best seed to soil contact for him aside from scalping it with the mower he is going to need to thatch it or stiff rake the dead material out, right?
You didn’t top dress your new KBG with anything else other than dumping it right on your existing lawn and like you said used your “dead” older lawn as a top dresser?
