How to Tie an Aikido Belt

Ilima, one of our dojo members, demonstrates three ways to tie a belt that will keep your gi snug and secure.

Nah, you can put a whole afternoon into getting it right, and then right again. Knots are complicated.

I like having the belt separated on my back, which means you roll over one layer of belt as opposed to two.

I just started aikido classes and I found the first method (which is what the school tried to teach me) extremely unnatural. Much prefer the third one, very secure too. Thanks!

It would be better to not use a black belt for the demonstration but a white one, lovingly colored on one side (I made one for showing)

does somebody know do you tie your belt around your waist or over tour bellybutton? cus when i go over my belly it always slides up and my kimono messes up. i’ve always seen men put theirs under or over their bellies and as a woman we also have smaller waist so idk? does it even matter where you tie it?

I do the third method but then put the tails in between the two layers so it locks.

The third style is better and looks better.
