Retired art teacher here. To keep glue bottles from clogging, always dry off the nozzle and close it tight. Never stick anything into the tip. If it gets clogged soak the cover in hot water and scrape the inside with a compass point (it’s small enough not to stretch out the tip). This probably won’t work with Titebond 3 or other waterproof glue.
For your glue, we have had success storing wood glue upside down. The air goes to the bottom of the bottle and the tip stays wet. Just make sure the bottle gets closed before it goes upside down. Sometimes we cover the tip with aluminium foil just in case they may drip. Also, keep your tips when you recycle the empties so you can use them on future clogged bottles, while soaking a clogged tip in hot water. Good luck!
I have that almost exact dresser. It origanlly had a matching head and foot board for a bed along with a vanity. I gave the vanity , foot and head board to a friend and kept the dresser. This bedroom set belonged to my husbands Grandma, who if she was still living would be about 110! The set is probably from the 1940. I love the deep drawers on this dresser, but like yours was, needs some love. Thanks for showing me how to bring it back to life.
I inherited the complete set from my sister a few months ago when she retired and moved to Florida. The dresser, head board and vanity with mirror. I have all three pieces and they are in great condition.
I was born in 1947 my parents had the same dresser, night tables and long dresser and the makeup dresser. So yes I think it's in the 40's. Ottawa, Ontario Canada.
Lauren, this is beautiful! I like your choices with the paint, the black border in the back, and the gilding wax on the hardware! The wood grain is gorgeous!! You probably could go higher than $350. This is a classic piece - sort of reminds me of an elegantly dressed man or woman.
Buy some veneer and replace the little areas. I’ve seen other flippers cut out and gluing new pieces with great results. You should try it, I’m sure YOU can do it!👍🥰
It looks awesome ❤❤❤. Me at 70 years am starting my furniture flipping, jumping with both feet…. But I have you with me with all your great videos, And there is no doubt in my mind I am going to succeed.. You are a great inspiration❤❤❤
Hi Lauren. Having the tip of the wood glue harden happens to me all the time. If you put the tip of the dispenser on a hard object and hit it with a hammer a couple of times it will loosen the dried glue and you can then just pick it out and you will be good to go.
Wood glue tip, straight from Titebond: store your glue in the refrigerator, it will keep fluid SO long that way. I do that and I never have any problems with it.
I think on the back of the bottle it will recommend you take the clear tip off and clean the glue out before storing it again. It works for me everytime. Only takes a few seconds.
The chest of drawers is the tall piece. A dresser is wide and lower (fewer drawers). A dresser often has a mirror attached or on the wall behind it. Using the proper terms will improve your communication with prospective buyers.
Late to the party here, but wanted to say, I really love how this piece turned out. It is part of a set that my parents bought when they got married back in 1948. I still have the chifforobe, vanity, & night stand. Sadly, I need to get rid of them because it’s just not my style and I have no room for it anymore. What’s cool is it still has all the original hardware intact. It has seen better days sue to moving multiple times. I truly wish I could keep it as I’d follow your design. Hopefully I’ll find someone who’ll love it as much as my family did. Thank you so much for all the inspiration you provide. Cheers from FL😺
I’ve worked on a few old pieces that needed veneer. It’s not Real hard, but you have to be patient & precise. This Chest of Drawers turned out Great! 👍🏼 I just wish you wouldn’t have painted the small rows of the decorative veneer. It would have added another dimension with just hemp oil.
You do such marvelous work...very creative, too! i'm binge-watching your channel. This Art Deco piece looks fantastic! You should charge more! I think $500 or $600 would be a good price for this classic piece!
Absolutely love this! I have a matching wardrobe, vanity etc that belonged to my grandparents. I too used a Annie Sloan black on the sides & trim leaving the wood like you have on the wardrobe. That’s the only piece I’ve tackled & plan on finishing the rest this spring.
I love that you retained the wood finish on the top and one drawer. I think staining the drawer the same color as the top would have been nicer. Love the waterfall pieces.
Girl, seeing how far you’ve come since the beginning has been so awesome. Look how great your pieces are! You should be so proud. I think you could’ve posted that for much more…just sayin😉 I loved the final look…perfection!
When will you do a video of you organizing and tidying your work shop area? Seems like it's sort of chaotic back there. Would love to see you do a wall like you did in your garage. Shelving and organizing.
Oh My Gosh! I had this same old dresser for countless years, way back when.. I paid $10 for it at a thrift store and I loved the look of it. It also looked bad just like yours did lol! I kept it clean but it always looked bad.. good for you my dear! From an old lady born in the early 1950s!!
The glue bottles are difficult. I clean off the tip, put the top on it, then store it upside down, in a glass or something, so the bottle stays upright. The scratch on the top, you could try a wet cloth and iron, to try and lift it up a bit. Not sure if it was like “dented,” but this technique will swell the wood fibers and lift it up. Might not get it all out, but make it less noticeable.
That is stunning. I love the waterfall dressers so much and like that one so many of them are built in a very sturdy sustainable way, which is probably why they’re still working 130+ later. Whether you restore them or repaint them, they come out beautifully and they just never disappoint.
Love how this turned out! I think you could be charging a lot more for your furniture. Like 300 to 400 more. Enjoy your utubes and work ethic. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🕊️✌️😀😃😄😁🤗
Although I love the milk paint result and the beautifull satin black finish after the hemp oil treatment, this dresser was worth saving in its original shape just with small veneer pieces replacement. You could try to damp and steam the scratch with iron, sometimes it helps to raise the dent.
Restoring a piece is 100 times more difficult than painting! I love everything you did on this piece! It's GORGEOUS! You brought it back to life and gave it another 50 years of life! I totally agree with your decision to leave the scratch on the top... it adds character to a vintage piece! Thanks so much for sharing. I enjoy so much these daily makeovers and your Christmas sweaters are awesome.
I sometimes use wood glue for its strength in my paper crafts. When bottle tips get hardened glue in them, you can soak in 90 % alcohol like hand sanitizer or bathroom alcohol and it softens it up enough to poke it back out of there. I often put masking tape over my bottle top to keep air out of the tip. I can get that off pretty well. Some people use press and seal.
I currently have that dresser! I bought it used 43 yrs ago for $75.00. I used it with an antique bedroom set that I sold years ago. The antique headboard footboard and keyed mirror dresser Went well with the dresser. We refinished the headboard and the keyed mirror and dresser. It was green, and we brought it back to the wood. We put a clear coat over and you could set water. You could set a hot coffee cup on it. And it didn't damage at all the over 40 years that I had it. It was a set that I bought with my wedding money 45 years ago. I sold the set to a had been wanting. Something like that and had just come out of a hard situation. We sold a tour for a really cheap price. She cried .My son currently uses the dresser. When I bought the dresser many years ago I put a clear coat on it so it has withstood all these years. Yes the dresser is very very old, It was old when I bought mine. You gave The one you have such a beautiful transformation. I love it I couldn't believe how amazing it turned out what you did. But you always do great transformations with furniture.
Love this! I’ve always wanted try The Real Milk Paint. I actually got some samples a while back but it wasn’t enough to to a piece of furniture. I’m glad to see you using some of these paints. This piece is stunning 🦋👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
OH Lauren! Thank you for keeping some of the original wood veneer. Yes, keeping a few marks preserves the Piece’s history. This piece matches my 1944 Lane Cedar Hope Chest’s style and veneer! You did an amazing job! The Real Milk Paint Co sounds like a wonderful company and I love that it has natural ingredients! B~}
Nice colour combination. I can’t see enduring the hassle of using milk paint when there are many acrylic-based furniture paints to make your life easier.
This is my favorite of your flips!! I have the same furniture pieces (50s style). U have inspired me to do something with it. I have been a little scared to try...
It looks pretty good... Possibly better (to me) than if you left more wood showing... However, I think it's time for FFT to start experimenting with a little veneer repair ;) So you won't be so stressed out or disappointed when you come across situations like this.
LOVE - love - love real milk paint. Been using it for years. Such good coverage.
yes! this is great!

i have the dresser and vanity
got a quote of 3000$ to refinish. nope
I inherited the complete set from my sister a few months ago when she retired and moved to Florida. The dresser, head board and vanity with mirror. I have all three pieces and they are in great condition.
I don’t usually like these retro pieces, but you brought it into the 21st century. Great job!

I agree. I think that one could definitely be valued higher

The waterfall dressers were built in the '30s. Love love love what you did!!!

These are my favorite dressers to work on because they are so lightweight. Plus, waterfall dressers are just so chic!

I don’t like the waterfall dressers, but you made this look beautiful❣️ I love it❣️ You have such vision & skill.
I agree completely, this dresser is gorgeous. appears as though you are elevating to a new level in upcycling aka, creative reuse.
Wow! Look at that wood grain INSIDE the dresser, on the inside left wall! It's gorgeous!
You do such marvelous work...very creative, too! i'm binge-watching your channel. This Art Deco piece looks fantastic!
You should charge more! I think $500 or $600 would be a good price for this classic piece!
Thank you for being so authentic and real.
Absolutely love this! I have a matching wardrobe, vanity etc that belonged to my grandparents. I too used a Annie Sloan black on the sides & trim leaving the wood like you have on the wardrobe. That’s the only piece I’ve tackled & plan on finishing the rest this spring.

You should try to learn veneer repair. You can also use an iron and wet cloth to pull light dents and scratches back to the surface.
Next time you come across a dent or scratch try steaming it out. Followed by a light sand. The steam might just help the wood fibers expand again.
I close mine with blue tac on top of the lid and then just peel it off when I need it!
My husband puts a nail in the tip of caulk for storage. Maybe that will work with storing wood glue.
When will you do a video of you organizing and tidying your work shop area? Seems like it's sort of chaotic back there. Would love to see you do a wall like you did in your garage. Shelving and organizing.
Very soon 🤗

Put a tack or nail in the top of the glue nozzle ! It works

Not a fan of waterfall furniture but this chest of drawers looks really good.💕💕🤗🤗😃
OMG! That’s my dresser!
Thank you for leaving that small scratch.
Hi Lauren to keep your glue from drying out clean it off really well then dip it in Vaseline
Hit thumbs up before even watching 😆 I know it's going to be gooooood!
I love it.
Hulda from Puerto Rico 🎉Lots of Blessings. Merry Christmas
Love how this turned out! I think you could be charging a lot more for your furniture. Like 300 to 400 more. Enjoy your utubes and work ethic. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🕊️✌️😀😃😄😁🤗
It is exactly like what was in my parents bedroom in the 40s and 50s!
I have an exact copy of this dresser in my garage, picked it up last week. Thanks to you I now have an idea of what design to refinish it into.
Although I love the milk paint result and the beautifull satin black finish after the hemp oil treatment, this dresser was worth saving in its original shape just with small veneer pieces replacement. You could try to damp and steam the scratch with iron, sometimes it helps to raise the dent.

thank you (: I agree!
My very favorite piece.
That chest of drawers is killer! Great job!
My family owned a dresser just like this one, purchased ìn the late 40s. They also had a vanity in the same style😂
Turned out really pretty
Love it, it turned out beautiful. Kudos!

Beautiful! We had a chest of drawers just like that many years ago. Not sure what ever happened to it.
OUTSTANDING !!!!!!!! I LOVE THE BLACK !!!! Good job
I use medicine syringes when I put on wood glue. I’m always afraid when I have to squeeze the bottle really hard it’ll bust on me.
Keep the glue cap closed, you can also soak it in hot water and it should cleanup for you.
I really like that one
It's beautiful! And it still looks old, in the best way.
Beautiful work. Regarding some of the superficial dents and dings, have you tried steaming them out? It works really well, even on veneer.
I have the exact dresser. In fact I have the bed frame, vanity and nightstand and my Mom bought it in 1948.
I currently have that dresser! I bought it used 43 yrs ago for $75.00. I used it with an antique bedroom set that I sold years ago. Loving how that turned out. My Aunt had a dresser like that so I would say its from the 30's - 40's area. Turned out beautiful!
Blessings
Lauren! This piece turned out awesome! It is just lovely! Nice job, thank you!
I had a dresser just like that from my great grandma. She also gave me the matching headboard and vanity table.
Beautiful!!
It is gorgeous Lauren! Love the 2 tone look! 🥰🥰🥰
My great grandfather had this whole set. (He was born in 1800’s) It’s probably VERY old.
I’d love to have this!
its available 😊

Vasaline on tip before you put cap back on .. Works with paint jars too .. Coconut oil too works
Trop belle
I’m pretty sure you can put wax over the oil once it’s dry. That will give a nice subtle sheen to the piece.
use a piece of painters-tape instead of the original cap to close off the tip of the glue-bottle
Absolutely stunning! Just beautiful!
amazing how it turned out.
And can you share what grit sandpaper you’re using throughout your projects please and thank you
omg.... one of the best pieces you have done. bravo!
This is my favorite of your flips!! I have the same furniture pieces (50s style). U have inspired me to do something with it. I have been a little scared to try...
you got this!

I thoroughly enjoyed this transformation!
Well done!
Looks amazing! Thanks for sharing this! 💯 ❣️
Looks great! Im inspired to work on an art deco piece I’ve had in my stash for a long time.

thank you! I dont really have a desire for the veneer repair skills just yet. maybe some day! ☺️
Love it. I really like leaving top drawer wood.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PIECE❤
Love this piece!
Fantastic Job!!!
TURNED OUT BEAUTIFUL, LAUREN
Looks very nice! I think I would use wood pens on the top scratch.
I love to see all the furniture flips.
Lauren! That is beautiful!!!
One of your best
You had me at art deco waterfall!! Ha ha
Bello y original
Very beautiful renovation ❤
Omgoodness? So beautiful ❤️
That dresser is vintage (I think). I had one my grandma gave me that was her set that was wedding gift to her. It is a beautiful dresser. I love it.
for sure! vintage is anything 20-99 years old! 100+ is antique so this is close!
