Richie Kotzen is one of my 5 top guitar players. I've been listening to his music for many years now. I understand why other huge rock guitar players respect him so much. He has everything... amazing guitar skills, awesome voice and most of all, a deep understanding of music. He can play anything easily and not many people can say that. Great video as usual :)
👍
That dude is a monster! Playing without a pic and great vocals ... Love his style.
👍
Richie is my guitar crush.
He’s got it all. Great guitar player. Perfect blend of soul and flash.
Great singing voice ala Chris Cornell but with more soul.
And a great songwriter.
And to top it all off he plays every instrument on his records. Look it up.
Just an exceptional talent.
Richie is incredible. Glad to see you check him out.
No problem!
Probably my all time favorite guitarist. Native tongue was by far the beat poison album. He made everyone in the band better.
Love it man!
Nice vid.
👍
Been a fan since his first album for Shrapnel. Got to BS with him on his Electric Joy tour. He was amazed anyone knew who he was at the time. Humble, talented, and just a great guy all around.
👍
Ritchie is so underrated. You need to check his live video “Remember” in Brazil. Really any of his live videos are gems!
Awesome vocals & incredible guitar. Dang- those riffs! Just like you said Fil, to do both at the same time on the highest level is absolutely amazing.
👍
Fil you had the best smile the whole time! ❣Richie is one of the BEST. In my humble opinion.
Best power trio since Trower.
Yeah‼️LOVE Robin Trower...🎸💕🎶
Yes I love him too! Especially with James Dewar and Bill Lordan in the 70's
👍
@@arthurrendbeau6782 Yes!!! Trower was my first concert in 76 at The Spectrum in Philly. I've seen and met him many times. James Dewar has the smoothest, most beautiful voice. 'I Can't Live Without You'!!!!!
I'm into their rock stuff more, but hopeless, SINGLE romantic me loves that one. Rock on✌🏼
@@d.dedrick7991 l loved the earlier stuff. I think they're underrated here in the states, but I've been listening to rock since I was 11. I played Physical Graffiti on a portable turntable!!!! 👍🏼
Every time I have seen Richie live I get that same smile on my face.Criminally underrated!
👍
I was diggin Fil's smile. 👍🏼
If you haven't reviewed it yet, maybe do Richie's Paying Dues, or better yet Remember from Bootlegged In Brazil. He does some stuff on that live version about 5 minutes in that I've never in my 56 years seen before.
Rock.
Thanks!
Ritchie is a phenomenal guitarist and singer. The complete musician!
👍
And don’t forget writer
Richie Kotzen is so insane. Has killer vocals and ridiculous guitar skills. The world is so unfair lmao
👍
Richie must be one of your personal faves for you to want to watch this video all night! Your analysis is bursting with excitement.
Thanks!
Didn't know a thing about Richie Kotzen until barely a month ago. Seriously, watching something else on RUclips when I fell asleep. Thanks to autoplay, that 2015 live concert just happened to wake me up. I was thinking Chris Cornell, but the insane blues-y guitar skills topped it all. It's not just him, I love that bass. Ah, my mind likes this sound. Ha, I'm so heading to Nashville for the Winery Dogs gig on May 8th. I know very little about them, so this will be interesting.
Technique? You mean soul.
Came across him the same way, can’t stop listening now.
Fil, Fil!!! Thank you SO very much mate. You made my day. You're the man! Cheers mate! Just brilliant.
No problem!
Saw Richie twice in the past year ... small venues here in the States.. Incredible.. and actually a very humble appreciative musician .. 🤘🏼
I'm so jealous. I had tickets for the New Hope show, but had to cancel. Good for you!! ✌🏼👍🏼
Ree McLaughlin wow... that’s where I saw him.. and last year at the Arts Quest center .. 🤘🏼☮️💟💯🎸
Cool!
@@stevetrivago Jealous!!!!!! SO HAPPY for you! Hope he comes back........
Please do more Richie Kotzen stuff! He's one of my favourite musicians!
Do Richie Kotzen-Remember (Live In Brasil) (Full Version)
It's back when he was still playing with a pick but what a stuning performance that was. It was on a Stratocaster too!
👍
He's just plain hot... a very underrated talent in general. Beautiful man who throws his imaginary pick to the audience and we all live happily ever after ...
It’s really not fair. One thing to be able to play like that. But to sing too?🎤🎸🎤🎸
😂👍
Yeah same goes for Ian Thornley.
And write killer songs in all kinds of genres, plus play drums, bass, and keys!!
A damn hell amazing composer. His lyrics are deep!
Dude, I think you turned me on to a new artist. You nailed the reaction also.
Thanks!
Start with The essential Richie Kotzen CD and The Winery Dogs first album. You will want more
This guy lives, and breathes music, should be on everyones radar, exceptional musician
Ritchie Cotzen is awesome!!I feel everything when he's singing,His music is full of soul, whether it be in his voice or guitar playing.
The pure enjoyment on Fil's face as he watches Richie blaze it up on the fretboard, sprinkle in melodies, and throw amazing singing on top. :D
I love Richie, he's awesome.
I had the pleasure of meeting Richie a few months back before his show. It was completely surreal meeting somebody you admire so much musically. He really is the jack of all trades but sadly really underrated. There's a picture of me and Richie on my RUclips channel.
Cool!
Oh wow! I too was thinking how much he reminds me vocally and physically of Chris Cornell!!... I adore gritty, smoky (bluesy?)and painful voices...they emote so much authenticity and humanity from them
👍
@@wingsofpegasus ruclips.net/video/iDzP-yjDtF4/видео.html pls check this one out frm his latest concert at nyc a few days ago
I concur with someone below that he sounds alot like Chris Cornell meets Paul Rodgers (Bad Co).... yep showing my age here for sure!
Ive watched more Richie Kotzen live shows on RUclips than any other guitarist. In this show he jumps on the drum kit too. I just saw him live for the 1st time with Winery Dogs. He is my top 5 artists .
Great reaction and insight.
Thanks
Another great vid. Getting close to the 30k mark!! CONGRATS!!
Thanks!
The best guitarist/ singer I ever heard in my life. (I play the guitar and sing too with my band, but not that good XD) Watched a full concert of him yesterday on YT ..and his rythm section is amazing too!..Same high level in guitar playing and vocals: wow! He and jeff Beck are the ones who drove me to work out my finger style on electric guitar... Thanks Fil !
Cool!
I’m upset I have missed this guy for years,
Ife been listening to him for something like 35 years, always amases me
I'm hoping for a third Winery Dogs release. Damn good stuff. Love how he plays a Tele, too. Looks AND sounds like Cornell....kinda scary how much.
👍
It’s in the works!!
One of my favourite gigs of Richie’s , so talented and his band are great 👍🏻
👍
Richie is amazing!!! Cool video!!
👍
I really have learned to appreciate Kotzen as I got older. I didn’t know a lot about him when he was younger. I think he’s a terrific guitarist and singer. He’s very good at his craft. I sort of here a little Chris Cornell in his voice. What do you think?
Yep!
Ooooft....! I’m an old guy and had never seen/heard of this phenomenal player. A great review, thank you for the introduction to yet another great. What a really awesome talent, I’m about to start hunting out his stuff, he blew me away! Best wishes, Charley.
Cool!
Thank you for always remembering to define jargon words in your analyses :-)
No problem!
Thanx man I wanted you to the work when I should’ve looked, thanx fil
Ritchie was one of the original shredders back in the day, he did some "How To Shred " videos for RHS in the 80's. Ritchie can do it all. This guy is perhaps my all time favorite guitar player on the planet.
👍
This concert was first brought to my attention on the strength of the bass player, actually. I knew Richie by name only and not much more. From the first song his playing blew me away, and then he opened his mouth I couldn't believe what a complete talent he is. Nice appreciation as usual!
👍
Sorry I meant Peace Sign!
He does sound like chris cornell
👍
I LOVE how he's doing a little guitar/vocal pairing, ala George Benson, GREAT stuff, & NEW to me too,Thanks Fil‼️ROCK💕
No problem!
Wow this guy is awesome and love his bluesy gritty voice . I've got to watch more videos of his . Thanks Fil !
👍
Why the fuck isn't he more well known?
👍
Another guy i've never heard of, thanx. This guy is GOOD. Band aint too shabby either.
👍
In my opinion Richie is the most underrated musician ever. This bloke can sing like and angel and play guitar like an animal. He definitely deserves the spotlight more on him
👍
Damn he’s so good!! Have seen him so many times honestly Fil he’s just absolutely amazing. Incredible voice and his fretboard skills are mind blowing!!! Every time he comes to town I make it a mandate to go and see him, have spoken to him on a few occasions after the gig, what a great guy he is!! Listen to a song called Piece Sign! Sensational! Really great vid Fil!!!😁😁😁😁👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Thanks!
ty for another great artist in your series keep it up have a great day to you all
No problem!
Greatest living guitarist /singer
From Mr Big to Stanley Clarke, to Winery Dogs, to this.... This guy can do pretty much anything. This is another great performance, obviously, but also another great bit of teaching, Fil! (I heard Cornell in the vocals, too!)
Thanks!
Thanks for telling me why I love Richie. Like I said I know nothing about music. I only know what I like. His voice of course is kick ass and I knew he played good guitar but I learned why he plays such good guitar. I can't wait to see next month at 1st Avenue. Thanks, Fil.
Cool!
He’s a monster talent 👌🤜
👍
He is a triplet threat. Player singer songwriter.
👍
That was a great video, you broke it down & explained it perfectly.
Thanks!
Richie is so talented.
An early VHS I have seen ,shows how much ,he has changed as a musician,in it ,he had "80s" hair lots of sweep picking ,whammy bar use /string skipping[no singing!]]
Phil. I am compiling an email for you. I really appreciate your adoration for cool old stuff. Thank you for making it mainstream. Your work is important. You are a hero to some. man. Great work! Investigate Rick Elliot. Triumph.
Thanks!
You have to watch Ritchie playing drums and bass, in the level of his guitar playing! And, so GREAT on songwriting. One of best rock player of all time. Check the "Live Brazil" dvd, when he was still young and using a pick. That video blows your mind.
Thanks!
Ritchie is so fucking awesome!
Thanks for great review Fil,
I always loved Richie's playing.
He was never given a fair shake
when he was in Poison but with
his solo stuff or Winery Dogs
(N.A. Tour Spring 2019!) he
really shines!
No problem!
👍👍👍👍👍Great video! Love his voice also!
👍
Richie has always had incredible feel! His pickless technique is impeccable. Your right; his vocal style is very similar to Cornell’s... and I think you have hand envy 🤟🏻
There's a video floating around where he explains stretching his fingers. He's the man.
Haha I always do!
Fil, I immediately thought Chris Cornell but thought I might have been off. So glad you hear the similarities as well! Thanx for the video as always. Cheers!
So amazing is his voice as well as guitar technique so compliment one another, the bass guitar player is awesome as well as the drummer! I love my bass players and drummers, loads of talent here!
Yep!
💟Richie Kotzen
Finally able to watch this & it did not disappoint! I IMMEDIATELY thought Chris Cornell when I heard his vocal! Amazing! Of course his guitar playing was also very impressive.
👍
I have a video from the 80s,with Richie on,and he has developed somuch,as a player/sound, songs ,and THAT voice, hugely impressive.
👍
Love RK, one of my favourite players along with Eric Johnson, Benson, Prince, Buckethead and Michael Hedges.
Not enough views for this talent!
So great! I thought (if you haven't already done this one) since it's Halloween time that it would be great to see you react to The Eagles "Witchy Woman" live 1973. Glenn Frey and Bernie Leadon's guitar playing on this always sounds haunting and very cool.
Thanks!
Chris Cornell was the first thing that came to mind when I started watching. I really like Ritchie's style. If you've never tried playing and singing, it's not as easy as it looks. Then to sing through lead parts...wow! It takes it to a whole new level. Way beyond my skills! The guy is good! Thanks Fil!👍😎🎸🎶
👍
Great review here. One correction I would suggest: Around 9:50 or so, you observed that Richie was "belting in his chest voice". That's incorrect...his upper range is primarily mix voice, with lots of good resonance and good support. Belting has a heavy sound, mixing head and chest is a bit lighter and less strenuous, but comes with access to higher pitches (and doesn't preclude throwing some grit into it). Cheers!
Yes some great singers can get their mix to sound like an all out belt! I think more recently I've explained this in other videos as I got into the details a little more over the last 6 months or so ☺
Spot on Fil Pat Martino said improvising is like walking out to check your mailbox taking a left walking 5 miles with multiple turns before you take it out of the box if that makes sense
😂👍
Thank you Fil 😂☮️👊🏻🎸
No problem!
Rk makes anyone smile!
This guy is really good! Thanks Fil!
No problem!
And what a THREAT!
👍
I really like this! 👍🏻
👍
Power trio is the best!
🤘🎸🎼great video 🎼🎸🤘
cooool style 🎸& great trio band 🎙🤘
Another great trio band is Highly Suspect, check em out you might find something new to love, Lydia is the first song I ever heard of theirs. ✌🏼❤️🤘🏼
Thanks!
you welcome 🤘
you said his vocal has a Chris Cornell thing going on, but i have to disagree . i always thought the opposite, thats how i got into Soundgarden first time i heard them i thought it was Ritchie on Vocals.
He's received Satan's gifts, tenfold. Kotzen is the kind of guy who could be the best at anything he chose to be; golf, guitar, cooking, singing, hunting ... anything he fancies.
👍
also a great fusion jazz player
👍
Just awesome!
👍
Kotzen's voice has always reminded me of Cornell's voice. Really close match even, I'd say.
👍
Just gave this another spin, so to speak. Probably just kranky yesterday since both the '9ers and Raiders lost. Both teams struggling now. Richie vid is great, though. The way he wrapped up that wha'd solo with some climbs and some screaming bends was a treat. Vocally, i believe he sang before he played. Grew up in a neighborhood where Soul was played as much as Rock and was i believe into Stevie Wonder before whatever players were around.
👍
He’s a really great player , got the tele with some awesome tones
👍
Wow great guitar, vocals and band!
👍
That is JUST Awesome!!
If it was possible to judge ALL your many great vids into some order of greatness, IMO,
this guy would have to be in the top 5!!
Now that would be a nice challenge!..your best vids from 1-50 lol
😂
My idol on guitar. I love RK, essetial influence on guitar to me.
Nice. Very nice.
👍
Cornell was my immediate comparison upon hearing this as well. At least at times.
👍
Same here. Chris Cornell came to my mind too.
Richie is amazing and comes across as a really cool humble guy.
His pickups are also epic, if you have a Tele and want some extra bite, get them fitted!
👍
That was really impressive!
👍
Fil, great job on that video, love it! Hey check out the youngster from Romania, Andrei Cerbu, his version of Gary Moore doing " The Stumble", the future looks bright w/some of these young folks!
Yeah I know Andrei, we've both worked with Sina independently ☺
Speechless. Love it. Mr Big. How long?
Not sure!
That Tele screams.
👍
Perfect model, too. A custom Custom in sb. Gots an Anniversary Sq fat tele in tri burst. Wish i could play it more.
I remember him from somewhere.
Telecaster's have such a unique sound, it's beautiful.
👍
