      @derekroberts5931 Год назад

      The Sony ECM - B1M , I see negative reviews on it moving and messing the audio? Is this a major problem with that? Also if price wasn't a factor which mic would you get on a sony ev-10? The B1M or B10? Th difference in price where I live is $100 USD, the B1M being more expensive. The environments will be in the gym with dim light, not like pitch black, but not bright. Also in an apartment with well...apartment lighting lol.
      For my portable ( mobile ) mics I went with sync over rode mic bc the cost was $100 less and they came on a deal with a two way stand to put on a camera ( for say a light and mic ). So the $100 I saved from that I can put towards something else. Kinda my thinking if I have to. If I don't, then I don't.

      It is a noble quest though. It makes such a huge difference when you nail it. My environmental device is the Zoom f6 with 2 rode NT5's. IT's a pain to set up but it is undoubtedly the best for getting beautiful nature sounds. I set it up when I find those really nice quite places.

    Hey Josh - have you noticed any hit to battery life from the in-camera battery when using this? This would not be a deal breaker, since I keep a battery grip with 2 batteries loaded 95%+ of the time. I have the A7 IV, and battery life isn't as quite good as the previous A7 III. Seriously considering this for an upcoming trip to Khao Yai National Park in Thailand later this month (Nov. 19th). I'll be shooting mostly stills, but I really like the video performance out of the A7 IV and might just use this on my monopod (Leofoto MP-285C) mounted gimbal (Fotopro E-6H) on this trip. Space inside my carry-on is super limited, so the size and design of this looks really appealing as well. I really like the different pickup patterns, as we will be in some areas where the wildlife will be all around.

      From our briefing, it was just the number of capsules. You will get a little better sound from farther away on the ECM B1M. However, as you see from my test, the nature sounds from nearly 20ft away processed nicely through the ECM B10. I hope that helped.

      It’s cheaper & smaller at the expense of less range for audio pickup away from the camera. I wouldn’t touch this microphone with a 10 foot stick. I have the Sony A1 & ECM-B1M setup and there is zero reason to downgrade for less range of audio pickup.

    That On Camera Mic makes my Rhode look, well, old fashioned and out of date. Going to look at this when it becomes available to the market.

      ECM-B1M is still going to deliver better audio than this newer & smaller counterpart. This release is for folks with ZV1 & little toy cameras like APS-C. For the Sony Alpha 1, the ECM-B1M is still the best in class

    Enjoyed the video! I was wondering if you tested how prevalent is the sound from the shock mount thumping - especially when moving around. I know the B1M had some issues with a weaker performing shock mount and am hoping the lighter B10 performs better.

    • @BayouJosh
      @BayouJosh  2 года назад +1

      I did notice some thumping around. Definitely not as good as a dedicated shock mount. However, I don’t do a lot of run and gun. 90% of the time the camera is locked off on a tripod.

  • @RealityStudioLLC888

    Did you by chance try the mic while holding the camera rather than on a tripod? I tried the previous ECM-B1M and ended up returning it because it picked up far too much camera handling noise even when using low cut so I went back to my trusty XLR-K2M.

    • @BayouJosh
      @BayouJosh  2 года назад

      Yup. Tried it in all configurations. What camera and lens are you using? I don’t even hear any camera noise with my ear much less a microphone from the Sony A1 or Sony A7iv.

      @@BayouJosh Hmm interesting, I use a Sony A7S3 with a SmallRig cage and wooden handle along with a Sony 20mm F1.8 lens. I have no problem with that setup and the XLR-K2M but no luck with the ECM-B1M. Anyways I pre-ordered the ECM-B10 guess I'll see how that goes.

    Off topic: is it fair to asume you're sponsored by Sony now? Maybe I missed a video where this was explained (switching from Nikon to Sony and all of that). Nothing wrong with that, of course. I'd like to know, though. Thanks!
