Love both shawls displayed by you and Hank. The Patterns are great and the yarn you picked out for your projects are perfect. You have your work cut out for you. Looking forward to seeing all the finished makes.🥰
Hi Joyce - it's a ton of work, but I'm slowly going to pace them when current WIPs get done. There are even earlier project bags I've paired patterns and yarn with from around 12 months ago. Every so often I like to record the fun process of how I work in my head.
Hi Gary, I love what you and Hank are wearing. All the patterns you picked out are amazing and the yarn you pick is also awesome. I can't wait to see your creations.
Your scarves are beautiful ❤ I mutch prefer having a book like you said there are little tips that come a book thank you for your videos so inspiring 😊
I love Beba Blanket patterns! She has some great video tutorials as well on her RUclips channel. I always love watching you select your color choices, you do an excellent job!
Loving your sense of color combinations and I love your new patterns. Can't wait to see them knit/crocheted up and finished. I have lived through book only patterns to digital only. I really don't have a preference. Both work. It is nice to have a physical copy to dream with🤣
Hi Gary, you and Hank are dressed beautifully! I like having a book, but I buy patterns so rarely (mostly I make up my own) - it's other topics I buy books for. But yes, having that piece to hold in hand to admire pictures and turn pages... it's to marvelous places that books take us!
I so love having a hard copy of a pattern. I almost always print out digital copies but if I'm traveling I will upload some patterns to my tablet and have few hard copies of my favorites with me.
Love the shawls and that blanket. I typically use my computer and a small notebook to keep track of the pattern. If I'm going to take it somewhere else to work on, then I will print it out.
Hi Gary! I look forward to seeing your finished projects. Those should be beautiful! Thank you for sharing. As far as pattern preferences, I use online/digital sources for ease of finding my stored patterns as well as space considerations (I'm trying to declutter and with so much yarn storage already, it's a challenge). I never print patterns. Happy knitting!
Absolutely gorgeous yarn and patterns. Can't wait to see you start . I sure wish you could do knitting tutorials. I'd love to learn how to do some of the beautiful things you make .
still old school and like a printed copy sometimes w/an overlay that I can ck off the rows I’ve completed! I love Stephen West designs but I only crochet , his color combos and designs are amazing can’t wait to see your projects comp
So excited to see the shawl that Hank has on again! It is a real work of art. Yaga Yaga is an artistic designer! I also love collecting patterns. A while back Toni Lipsey and A Guy with a Hook both authored Tunisian crochet books. I got both of them. I bought my first mosaic pattern from the latter designer a few years back. I’ve been watching Beba’s RUclips videos. If you need help look her videos up.
Oh - I did see A Guy With a Hook book and was so close to purchasing it. I love the photos used in the promotional teasers. I may have to go back and track down a hardcopy of it.
I love digital patterns because I can have many of them without taking up much physical space. Sometimes I print the patterns (if I'm going to be working on it anywhere away from my computer) but mostly I just have it open on my screen while I work. I do still have way too many crochet books, but you gotta do what you gotta do!
I agree with you Denise - a variety of each pattern type (digital or print) is the way to go. I do like moving away from screen time over the weekend, but like to keep crafting - and a paper version is my go to.
Hi Gary. Nice to see the shawls on you and Hank once again. Pretty hanks for your next creation. I don't normally purchase patterns. I go by tutorials and I have plenty of books.
👋 Gary! Love both of the shawls you have made. I do prefer having an actual book in front of me, too! I make notes of the yarn I use and who I have made them for and leave on the books. Kinda like a bookmark. If I purchase one online, I will make sure I can print it out first. Stitch tutorials I write down myself...it's all good! Take care from Arizona! 🌞
I don’t work from diagrams. I am old school and require a written pattern, also I like the physical paper copy. Greatly enjoy having you come into my Texas home❤
I love books and physical copies of patterns. I put them in plastic page savers and keep all in a binder. I love Stephen West! I'm still working on Geogradient. I have several of his hardcopy books too
The Stephen West patterns have the best readable layouts. I'm never trying to read too many details at once - or - needing a ruler to see if I've jumped down a line by accident.
I love how you sourced your stash for all these patterns. I prefer to begin with an electronic pattern because I use an app called Knit Companion to keep track of my place in the pattern as I work along whether its the written pattern or a chart. If I ever do want a hard copy I can print it.
Not a fan of bobbles and popcorns in general, but Hank's shawl is absolutely stunning! Very, very nice make, Gary! I will purchase the ebook as there are 2 variations of the shawl, and I really like both of them. The hat and scarf patterns are nice bonus! 😃 Love your color combination for the Painted Columns! 🖤🖤
Hello Gary! You have collected beautiful patterns 😍. Thank you for sharing them! I prefer printed forms for patterns. A tip for pattern resource: Once I got a bunch of magazines at my local yarn store. They were older editions, not needed anymore so I saved them 🙃😊 Enjoy your weekend!
Hi Gary, Beautiful patterns as usual. I prefer a hard copy, book or printed pattern because if your device crashes you're stuck. I also remember a knitting magazine that was electronic that went out of business and all the patterns went poof, gone.
Hi Gary, good to see you dipping into mosaic crochet. I haven't tried BebeBlanket patterns yet. For using 2 different yarns, use the hook that works best with the larger yarn to achieve the best fabric. I think it puckers if you use a smaller hook to suit the lighter weight yarn. Enjoy! I'm a hard copy person. Write down alot of notes as I go. I think I like getting away from technology when I craft. Take care.
Hi Valerie - that's a wonderful tip you shared with me. I will most certainly take up that advice and save myself the heart ache. You're the best having shared this - thank you.
I absolutely love having a physical book!! I found a westknits best knits book I'd been looking for for ages!! (Someone actually had the nerve to post it on Amazon for $4K!! Yes, you read that right!!) I got it for $35 shipped! 😂 They accidentally sent me the wrong one (I already had it) the bookstore was so amazing, they let me keep it AND sent me the correct one!! So I have 2 of volume #1. (I love to gift it to someone special. 😉😉😉 But I'd don't have an address) I believe they're both out of print now. I like that the patterns are also downloadable with the code in the back... Because I actually like to work off of a tablet sometimes. Although I love writing all over my patterns because I change things. 😁 I'm TRYING to use my more than ample stash, but sometimes the perfect color shows up. 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Gary, beautiful patterns and yarns, I can't read a crochet pattern so I follow tutorials, I can read knitting patterns though, but i have never done mosaic or fairisle, I like the little mosaic squares they look very cute 😊
I absolutely adore a tangible book pattern... but prefer digital individual patterns. Oh I love Beba's designs - you should enjoy making it. Youre spot on re the Gansie jumpers being used to help identify bodies washed ashore after storms etc. Apparently there is a very basic reason why only the top half of the jumpers body and sleeves are patterned. This is because most garments get damage to the lower body or lower sleeve and thus were easier to repair as the bottom halves were simple stockinette. Love the detail you put into your videos.
The history of these wearable knits is so fascinating! Your comment about the lower half of sweaters needing more repair so stitches were more traditionally stockinette makes perfect sense.
Hello Gary, I hope you are doing well. I hope Chad and Pixel are well, too. I like the shawls you made. I'll have to try one from Crystal. If I try a pattern, I would have to print it, something physical, to make notes.
That sweater history is so cool- can’t wait to see the one you make Gary (I know your math will be spot on) and I love that teal color of the yarn you’re using 😊 I prefer digital patterns simply because we split our year between Fla and Va (family in both spots) and I need access without transporting heavy books as we make 4 trips a year
I'm working on the cozy mosaic cuddles. I'm using mandala yarn. I print patterns when traveling. But lately, I've been using knit companion ( free app- they do have a paid option) for graphs it's great! I love it. I'm using the free part right now. I might upgrade.💜💜
Hi Gary👋I’m always amazed at your gorgeous creations! I dreamt about you the other night…I was out Vancouver and I said Gary lives on Vancouver island! I got to meet you and get a picture taken with you😀But, for some reason you were really short😁
I'm a book person so my preference would be in print. If I order a pattern on Ravelry then I need to print it out. Your Novella shawl is beautiful, but I'm not good at reading charts. I guess I need to learn! Lol the Mosaic ones WOW
Hi Linda - I hear you on the charts. There are patterns out there that have both written and chart forms that are great when making that leap. Cross referencing was a way to bring in the chart reading.
I buy mostly digital patterns that I print off. I’m not a huge fan of books. If I misplace or lose the book, then I’m out of luck. But if I print off a pattern and I lose it, then I can always reprint it😀
I love the shawls. I just saw your yarn unpacking. I love getting patterns from Ravelry. But they are downloaded, so I need to find out how to print them off my phone. I prefer books and paper patterns and I have a collection of patterns from the 1960s Till now

I have some Witches Shoes from Yarn Snob-I’ve been trying to think what to make with it. The Bag O Day shawl looks like it fills the bill. I have so many digital patterns, but somewhere along the line, I always end up printing them. Old school here😂
Hi Vicki - The Witches Shoes yarn is so lovely to work with. I'm saving half of the powerball for knitting a cowl. I know Keith intended the yarn to plan pool - so I'm hoping to give it a try in a cowl.
I print the patterns. I make notes of the yarn I use, hook/needle size if it's a paid pattern, what I paid. I mark any changes I make to the pattern. Then when I'm finished I mark if I liked the pattern. ❤
Oh wow! This is so funny! I just spent the past few days trying to pair patterns with three yarns that keep falling off my shelf. I think the universe is telling me something. And this morning I made my final choice - I think it’s one you’ve done. The Dragon Belly shawl?
LOL - I do think you are spot on with needing to use those yarns that keep on leaping off the shelf. I have done the Dragon Belly Shawl twice and liked the way the texture works up.
Yes Stephen West signed your Painted Shawl book. On their webpage it says All Copies are signed by Stephen West. Aurora Shawl is a beautiful shawl and there is a HiberKnitalong 2022 forum on Ravelry.
Hello Stitchmaker - thanks for the tip there's an online HiberKnitalong forum on Ravelry! I'm sure I'll be consulting it for insider input when I start the Aurora Cabin Shawl.
Stephen west has such great patterns! I don’t care for books. They are to cumbersome for me when stitching. I buy digital patterns & if they have a chart I might print that off but otherwise I just read them from my iPad.
It's really nice spending time with you! I really like your ... what's around your neck. I don't know if it's called a scarf or shawl.... what exactly it's called... it's really very pretty.

Hi Marpor - I just recently discovered that all the Stephen West books have a Code on the back cover to download all the digital patterns. So I get the best of both worlds - I'm gushing that I got a signed copy!
Hi Gary, was excited to see your makes. So many patterns can’t wait to see what you do with them. I’ve never learned to read patterns so rely on tutorials to make things. 🧶🫂

I always print my patterns in my own printer. I love a printed copy.
Absolutely love the Yaga Yaga Novela shawl and pattern, and love BebaBlanket patterns.
Your shawl so beautiful you do fabulous work love everything you make or had made
Hello friend! Happy to read your comment and thank you so kindly for the compliment!
Your welcome
I really like a hard copy of the patterns so I print them out so I can make notes. Lovely patterns!
Hi Gary, I love what you and Hank are wearing. All the patterns you picked out are amazing and the yarn you pick is also awesome. I can't wait to see your creations.
I want to start them all right away - but I know that would be overwhelming.
Oh! The blue heron is my totem😊. I knew I clicked on the right podcast to inspire my muse this morning❤. Thanks Gary!
You noticed the Heron! I'm so glad.
I was extremely excited to stumble across it standing so still for the longest time - until it decided to fly off!
your a cupful of inspiration every video
Awe - thank you so much Sherry. This is so encouraging to read!
Yes I also prefer an actual written pattern. I have collected so many patterns over the years!

I love the shawl on your mannequin 🎉
Thanks Jen!

Absolutely gorgeous yarn and patterns. Can't wait to see you start . I sure wish you could do knitting tutorials. I'd love to learn how to do some of the beautiful things you make .

Hi Emese - You're starting your library collection of patterns! I like that.
Hi Gary! I really enjoy your videos because your works are classy and beautifully made.
Wow! Thank you kindly!
Hi Gary. I have to print my patterns so o can mark them. Plus it’s easier on my eyes.
I do the same thing - I like to reduce screen time on the weekends and when I'm crafting.
Hi Gary, Beautiful patterns as usual. I prefer a hard copy, book or printed pattern because if your device crashes you're stuck. I also remember a knitting magazine that was electronic that went out of business and all the patterns went poof, gone.
Oh no - I think that is one of my most unspoken nightmares and agree that a hard copy reserve is the best insurance.
Enjoy!

Hi Gary, beautiful patterns and yarns, I can't read a crochet pattern so I follow tutorials, I can read knitting patterns though, but i have never done mosaic or fairisle, I like the little mosaic squares they look very cute 😊

Hope you are doing well and enjoying your fall!
You got a steal on the painting shawls book and that is definitely signed cos I bought that book when it first came out and it’s not in mine
Oh I did score a personally signed copy. Now I'm even more excited!
I love the shawls. I just saw your yarn unpacking. I love getting patterns from Ravelry. But they are downloaded, so I need to find out how to print them off my phone. I prefer books and paper patterns and I have a collection of patterns from the 1960s Till now
