Nice video. I attended Bamboo U in person a few years ago and was part of a team that built a stucture using exactly the method you describe. It looks beautiful as you illustrated but is very labour intensive, especially the shaping of the bamboo to the boulder. Here in Panama I use a simpler method where I cast a concrete block a foot or two into the ground with form work continuing a foot above. I make the box about a foot square. Before the concrete sets up I sink a 2" tube (about scaffoling tube weight) into the mix about 18" with 12" above. I drill the bottom part of the tube before installing it and slide in a couple of short lengths of re-bar crosswise to anchor it well. Once its cured I can then through bolt a pair of bamboo culms either side with threaded rod. Multiple pairs like this act as the columns of my stuctures braced and linked to support floors and the roof.
Hi there. Great video! Do you happen to have any ideas on best way to mount bamboo to a pontoon boat floor? Wanna build a tiki roof on my pontoon. Thanks
Hey brother, been watching your stuff for a while and love your content. New wife and I are buying 3 acres in fern forest. Would love to trade knowledge for some work. Where do I send a link with my promo video
I don’t get it you said that you didn’t want concrete touching the bamboo bc it wicks moisture but then you said they filled the base of the bamboo with a wet concrete mix… 🤔
Now you got me wondering. Probably has to do with the fact that the concrete foundation is exposed to the weather while the concrete you pour inside the node does not get exposed

Can you screw in? You can screw them down with brackets
@@HomesteadinHawaiiI thought you werent suppose to drill or nail into them because it weakens the culm and can lead to splitting??
Hi very interesting, I couldn’t open your pictoral info link tho
It opened for me, did you check junk mail?

Can you buy bamboo outside of Hilo?
Not that I know of. Most people harvest and treat their own.
Where can I get 25 banana plants
Where do you live?

Me too
instead of cement better to use Lime which is naturel way
That works, if you have it, we do not have it in hawaii
Indonesia
They have great bamboo building there
I don't think his eyes open😵
They don’t. Too many years in the sun
@@HomesteadinHawaii oh😶 I thought it was the garden on the south hillside.🥴
The Simon Velez guy does different
There are many ways
plastic soda bottles works as a concrete form for the end of bamboo.
That would be cool to try
Are you saying use a plastic bottle to shield the bamboo from the concrete while putting it in?
