- In this short video Joe Rogan asks Elon Musk on the possible problems of Starlink Satellites that we may encounter, especially for Astronomers.
Elon Reeve Musk (/ˈiːlɒn/ EE-lon; born June 28, 1971) is a business magnate and investor. He is the founder, CEO and chief engineer of SpaceX; angel investor, CEO and product architect of Tesla, Inc.; owner and CEO of Twitter, Inc.; founder of the Boring Company; co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI; and president of the philanthropic Musk Foundation. Musk is the second-wealthiest person in the world, according to both the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and Forbes's Real Time Billionaires list as of May 2023 primarily from his ownership stakes in Tesla and SpaceX, with an estimated net worth of around $167 billion according to the Bloomberg and $176.2 billion according to the latter.
Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by American aerospace company SpaceX,[3] providing satellite Internet access coverage to over 53 countries. It also aims for global mobile phone service after 2023.[4] SpaceX started launching Starlink satellites in 2019. As of May 2023, Starlink consists of over 4,000 mass-produced small satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO),[5] which communicate with designated ground transceivers. In total, nearly 12,000 satellites are planned to be deployed, with a possible later extension to 42,000. SpaceX announced reaching more than 1 million subscribers in December 2022[6] and 1.5 million subscribers in May 2023...

I do Astrophotography and see star link satellites in my sub exposures all the time, although they have no effect on the final image
I'm more worried about kessler syndrome. It's not just Musk that plans on launching 40,000 satellites.
I do Astropornography.
@@merohero9903 the sun's looking a little spicy lately 🥵
Same. As angry as o would like to be with starlink. They have so afr been pretty benign.
Interesting. Thanks for the info
Seeing a line of those for the first time at night with my ex was absolutely insane. Didn't know wtf I was seeing until we googled it
Those were Aliens from zeta-reticuli
I seen some too and they are wild. Just don't understand why they aren't a common sight here at night if there are so many in orbit now?
I think somebody is lying to us...
I thought it was aliens when I saw it lmao😭
Same, didn't believe my kid at 1st told him yes they were probably shooting stars. He finally dragged me out to look and was gobsmacked. Then they all disappeared at the same point
It’s hardly temporary. I’m an airline pilot and I do a lot of flying at night. Starlink satellites are super annoying and visible all the time. You will see a faint light moving then it gets very bright then disappears. You see them all over. The sky is almost littered with them now. Can’t imagine what it will look like with 10,000 of them.
Is there any chance starlink will fall down and hit the airplane along the way ?
@@mitnick212 no
Ah yes Starlink in specific
Imagine if we didn't have light pollution, we would NEVER see them as the sky would be littered with trillions of twinkling stars!
13,000. He’s clear for 13,000. And another 30,000 down the line
Finally a video where they didnt put a crying filter on joe and Elon
Wtf videos have you been seeing??

"crying filter"?!? 🤔
WHAT VIDEOS ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
What kind of left wing wacko videos are you watching?
His last comment went somewhat to actually assuaging any fears. One can only hope he is a man of his word.
His word is worth less than the crap that comes out of your ass and it actually could have value by the way people needed to be implanted if they have a certain disease either way what he says is BS it's already causing problems
To be determined
One can hope. Still waiting on that cybertruck.
Hes not
Man of his word lied about his fathers emerald deal and about being the founder of tesla
Anyone who uses the expression "assuage their concerns" should follow it by placing their pinky finger near their mouth, Dr. Evil style.

My friend fuckin saw it in a remote area of Uttrakhand. He was like he saw a ufo 🤣
That's because it was probably not cloudy that day and no light pollution seeing how he was in a remote place.

Getting into high level astronomy and astrophysics all starts at the AMATEUR level at home or in a small, inexpensive setting. Being dissuaded by these sparkly rings of light that you can't see past at times can be a great detriment to future scientists getting involved at a young age.
i’ve been on queue for starlink for 3 years
do what i did. order from a neighboring country on the same continent as you, then use the regional roam package.
You guys sound smart. Can you sell all my stuff online for me? My closet is over flowing with clothes I'll never fit into again
It’s worth the wait
You probably live in a populated area
I Bought it and it got excepted with in a week and set up 3 days later. You just need to redo your application. 😂
I just seen a set of them pass by last night pretty cool seeing them in a line like following each other like stars
Gotta get your star ducks all in a row
Oh okay Elon we’ll just take your word for it. 😂
Seen them with naked eye, looked like a string of slow moving shooting stars
i dont doubt starlinks a good service but the price 139$AUD a month is a rip hence why im not bothering to get the service just too expensive
Then you obviously don't live in an area with limited options. There are lots of competitors to starlink, the problem is they provide next to zero service, at much higher prices. If you've got something better for cheaper, then you're not in the target audience for starlink
I seen a line of about 20 of them before I knew what they were. Kinda cool.
I got this bro... don't worry 😂
I just saw star link going across the sky and it freaked me tf out
I saw one last night
Starling is essentially " Skynet." Elon Musk is the Borg. Resistance is futile.
The Chinese named their surveillance system skynet : look it up
I can see them at night but I like it they come all align its really nice to see
I was camping the other day sitting by the fire and I looked up and saw 60 lights flying through the sky in a straight line. I thought someone had launched a bunch of ICBMs or something. For a few minutes I thought everything would be ending at any moment. With all the news that day shit was looking grim already and then I saw that and thought "Welp. This is it." Turns out Elon here has a link of 60 satellites and that was the first time I had seen it. I'm good at finding satellites, but when you have 60 in a line moving at thousands of miles an hour it will freak you out if you don't know what it is.
Saw starlink for the first time camping it was sick! We just happened to look up while they passed over us
Musk always looks down when he answers certain questions. Hmmm...🤔
He makes eye contact in the video. Also, when people are lying, they generally look up with their eyeballs.
Unintended consequences entered the chat
You can tell Musk he's visibly not liking that question. I don't think Musk thought that it would turn out the way it did with the starlink satellites posing the problem of being visible.
Does it not feel like a intrusion to anyone that our night skies will be filled with highly visible infrastructure?
Did you not listen to it? They’re not visible, unless they are tumbling which only happens after lunch, and only for a few hours.
@@stoniebro-nies I can literally go outside and see them… the fuck do you mean “invisible” they sure as shit are not 💀
@@stoniebro-niesif they’re on the horizon they flash/flicker when the sun hits them, so this isn’t completely true
We see them fairly routinely here in Maine. They are so damned ugly and disconcerting a whole line of bright satellites going all the way across the night sky. Am I just catching them at launch? I don’t know but anyone who watches the night sky at all knows it’s a common form of visual pollution with regularity. I spend maybe 20 mins a month looking at the night sky and I have seen them 1x my wife has seen them twice.
@@stoniebro-niessometimes what people say and other peoples interests don’t align the same. Shocking. They are very visible often, that’s what I know. It’s a new form of visible pollution
I saw starlike get launched duing the evening and It was an amazing view! 🎉🤩🎉
Would it be available for
everyone all over the world
Ahh yes the billionaire saying „just trust me“
Good to make sure 👌 Good Luck 👌
I remember seeing a row of like 15 or more flashing lites wayyyy up in the sky at night one time and thinking it was aliens or something 😂 but all it took was a google search to learn it was just starlink, pretty cool though.
DARPA is watching you. But HEY Elon is a cool dude… Right? 😆
I seen a line of star link Sats and for a second I thought the nukes were flying and death was imminent
Elon Musk is a scientist.. you never know what he's going to come up with.. ENJOY THE RIDE! LOL 😂❤
Yay, more satellites floating around the earth.
Problems like unprecedented military surveillance for america.. yea kind of
Doesn’t that already exist?
Everything you do is already tracked and correlated with metadata
The powers of Legal Be ; have The say , not the question. Move onward 👍
I saw the first few and they were awesome
If we are getting ANY problems with the dozens to a couple hundred currently in orbit, not sure how far they've gotten, then that's only gonna get worse when they reach the several thousand they are aiming for. I hear a lot of talk about knowing it's an issue from Elon, and not a lot of talk about how to actually solve that issue.
Heard there’s a few thousand already but don’t seem to be causing issues for astronomers thanks to the way they set up their exposures
@@darylingoteborg3178 Precisely. There are 2 common methods of stellar photography; combining many short exposures and one long exposure. Each one has benefits and drawbacks. Starlink is threatening to make the long exposure no longer an option, and if it gets too bad the multi exposure option could become less effective.
@@darylingoteborg3178 There are 2 methods of setting up those exposures. Each have drawbacks and benefits. Starlink can be detected in both, but one method can just remove the satellite while the other basically gets ruined if a starlink satellite crosses too close to or through the area you are interested in.
Got to get them up before everyone finds out about what really happened during WW2
Elon is going to assuage their concerns with money for them to retire 😂
So basically he’s saying fuck anybody who just wants to look at the sky unaltered.
Talk about first world problems.
You cant see them, only during launch. Love watching the sky? Use your eyes, you wont be bothered.
@@mrbust999imagine this is something people who live off the grid would also not prefer
You're more than an industrial revolution late if you want an unaltered siy. Maybe try Afghanistan or the poles?
A handful of amateur astronomers vs millions of people in remote areas who can get internet access. Hmmm that's a tough one.
They will pay off who needs to be paid off. Duh
So the line of twinkling i see almost every night is the deployment of the satelites.... cmon Elon
You're lying, they're not visible at night, they're only visible at dawn and dusk, and only within two to three days of being launched, and only if you're in the exact right place at the right time.
How many satellites they're able to carry per launch?
just seen them today
Nobody is gonna talk about these weird ass noises in this video
O-o-o-o-o oh eeee
lmao didn't notice
Starlink is great but the price keeps going up. First it was $90 then $110 now it’s $120 and the experience hasn’t really improved that much.
The more satellites that go up the more expensive the network gets, it will improve and the costs will plateau.
The price hasn't changed, you're comparing different services.
He looks really uncomfortable being ask to account for starlink
We'll make sure!! Famous last words!
Ameture astronomer here they do show themselves every 90 minutes 😢
I see them at dusk all the time while fishing
Sure
Denials are one of Musk vibes ✨️😌
Starlink $150 month 😮
Not a terrible price though yeah? Of course the price has been and could be lower, but for global bandwidth like this I have to say, whether it’s $100 or $200, that’s still near the low end of the price range right?
Dont want ? dont buy? supply and demand dude....
Move your telescopes past the satellites.
WTF are you talking?
It's not a very good service. It's shit for video conferencing as it drops calls often
We seen a chain of lights ripping across the sky . Look it up and seen it was most likely starlink
I really freaked out one time from it , start running in the woods like crazy. Thought the alliens want to kidnap me 😢
Getting ready for the "alien" invasion
And it's very expensive, you forgot
Yeah its also useful. I hope it gets cheaper faster because 150 a month would be my highest single expense in a month and thats a lot
Traditional Earth base observation telescopes are obsolete do to the many limitations that they have, only Orbital optical and ground based Radio telescopes will be use in the future
Already is bro.
The word controversial is way over used.
I thought I was looking at a UFO....
Until you can identify it, you are.
Ya well build a pop can collecting machine. 🤙
Just saw them in the sky over my house last nite!! Was really exciting! Wanted it too be aliens or the rapture😅
I have dreams and i dreamt the world blew up❤😢
It's only controversial to luddites.
The fact that he is in the space industry meaning he needs astronomers
Elon doesn't get know unless Deonna knows what he's doing too .. now
This isn't no one way show
Like I’d stop seeing stars in the sky for free internet I really don’t care about them much
what episode is this
But what about space debris?
There are none. The satellites are in an orbit that will decay into the atmosphere if they lose power. They are built to burn up 100% when this happens.
Why tho
I saw them 7 days ago going over one of my favorite relaxation stations and I knew the world was getting a little bit too modern.
I've been photographing with telescopes from the last 10 years and no satellite has ever given me a problem. As a matter of fact they've given me some blessings because I caught the lunar orbiter Shadow going across the moon on video. I have it traversing multiple craters.
Try enjoying it with 42000 + starlink satellites.
@@antiidiottaskforcewhatever you say man
You clearly have not seen these yet
@@antiidiottaskforce Do you have any idea how small that number is once it's in orbit? It might sound like a lot but at the altitude they are at that's less than 1 satellite per 10 square miles.
If we just started flying planes, amateur astronomers would complain about air planes interfering with observations.
Star link satalites actually have a large spread and low orbit, they are also very small satalites. They won't pose a problem..
they are already visible all over the pictures telescopes take
Oh so as long as the big CORPORATE astronomers have no concern… only the normal people… 😐
“We’re making it so rich people can still be ok but not poor people”
We are not talking to Astronomers, we are paying them to shut their yaps.

I'm on the fence with this guy. I don't think he is as good as he appears.
I saw a row of starlink satellites with the naked eye travelling over my dark night sky of the Midwest. It was beautiful. Me and my dad stood outside and just stared up at the cosmos in awe.
On July 16th?!
This should not be allowed
Why?
They're certainly not an obstacle for Ukrainian Neo-nazis.
Starlink being succesful makes money for SpaceX. SpaceX making money advances the Starship project. Working Starship is million times more important to astronomy than amateur astronomers.
Do you want to see the night sky or thousands of ugly satelites deployed by this clown?
I’ve seen them fly over where I live on multiple occasions
