Not giving the VNAF the advanced F-4 Phantoms with state of the art EWS and navigation assets and bombers with larger payloads earlier in the Vietnam conflict was a massive error for both LBJ and Nixon.
The US is strangely stupid at times in the name of "protecting" their assets. When the RVN Navy escaped to the Philippines after the war, the US dismantled the electronics and radars from these ships before transferring them to the Philippine Navy which is like nuts. Its not even the most advanced the US had at that time and the ships brought themselves there and it was not US property anymore but for some strange reason - the US went ahead and took them out and then "gifted" the ships back to the Philippines.
Even the United States had to modify the way they conducted air missions. Particularly because of the Vietnam War. In 1969 the Navy developed a program for that purpose. It is popular known today as TOP GUN.
A video about the medical capabilities of the armed forces in South Vietnam would be interesting. It's interesting to note that that conflict was the first in which cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was used extensively. In addition, it would be interesting to see how much aeromedical evacuations with helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft have evolved during the conflict since the operational introduction of the Sikorsky S-55/H-19, S-58/H-34 UH-1 and C-47. It is also interesting to mention that H-19 Chicksaw was used by the French as essentially a MEDEVAC platform.
A precision model plane maker Hobby Master (Hong Kong HQ) has made a number of good quality built 1/72 F5 military planes, including those of various air forces such as USAF, ROCAF, Swiss AF, IRIAF, and of course VNAF. No price to rightly guess which becomes the most sought after one.
Depends on the country. During the war US helicopters were operated by the US Army mostly, and a few by the Marines, not the USAF. Yet the Australian Air Force in Vietnam had helicopters under the Air Force, not the Army.
Some countries began using helicopters as part of the air force and they were later used by the army and navy. But some countries' doctrines use attack helicopters or helicopters with a heavier armed configuration (e.g. AT missiles) in the air force's rotary-wing aircraft units.

Sadly, not unlike Nationalist China, and Afgan. forces later, ARVIN (Army, Navy, most likely Air Force) was rife with graft and corruption. The U.S. was uneasy when entering into South Vietnams' domestic situation (as long as it was anti-Communist all was well). "Even a political leader less shaped by mandarin traditions than Pres. Diem would have found it daunting to build a pluralistic democracy amidst a guerrilla war and a society fragmented by regions, sects, clicks and clans". From Henry Kissinger's book Diplomacy (Vietnam, Road to Despair). Footnote on Nationalist Chinese leader Chiang Kai-shek..."He deserves the protection of your shield, but not the use of your sword"... Churchill to FDR
Excellent video! I am actually researching the VNAF as well so it's nice to see that it isn't forgotten by others. Look forward to more videos.

If you've seen the new TOP GUN movie they counter surface to air missiles with flares to destroy the missiles before they hit their intended targets.
That technology was not available to the VNAF during the war
Does anyone know which UH-1 variants were used? Were there any gunship variants?
Yes the Frog, Hog, Green Hornets and Bushranger
Bushranger was the Australian Air Force gunships used during the war. Basically a Huey gunship
Sorry. I should’ve been more specific.
I was looking for ARVN UH-1 variants.
Can you do one for the Thủy Quân Lục Chiến (水軍陸戰) aka South Vietnamese Marines?
