In my opinion, the Sydney 2000 closing ceremony was one of the most spectacular if not the best ever. I think the only one that rivals it is London 2012. The festive atmosphere, multicolored, its quasi-impromptu character, the athletes as the epicenter of the big party, the ability that Australians have to laugh at themselves, the multicolored tour to each of the elements that are the pride of the country, makes it unique and unrepeatable. It is not a solemn event, it is a party by and for athletes. 🎊🎉🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I was there- I thought it was great on the night, but it was even more magnificent than I remember. The scale, the humour, the energy, the colour and movement and fun! This doesnt even show the biggest fireworks display in history straight after on the harbor...when the world was a better place.
Just before 9/11 the world was so much better back then... security wasn't as tight and people weren't as hateful with eachother cause the cold war had ended a few years prior. Such a strange time of peace but something we should try to strive toward.

Apa kabar semua? Greetings me from Indonesia! BIP is also the greatest icon for 90s kids...
If you know the history of Australia and the lyrics behind beds are burning by Midnight Oil… the ‘sorry’ printed on all their clothes was so symbolic. That for me is the greatest part of this whole ceremony. Truly talking about result of european settlers had on the Aboriginals and an all white aussie band not only owning it, but saying sorry in a legendary aussie rock n roll way. Seriously understated. Huge. Fantastic.
Snoopy I certainly was since I had the greatest time of my life in 2000 I knew Ian Thorpe at this moment in time he swam my local swimming centre in Sydney I don’t think I will experience that same buzz that the Sydney Olympics games have me ever again that period of time was very special
I agree 1998/1999/2000 was such an amazing time to grow up in, times like these and other sporting moments will never be matched for me have too many good memories of these years, once 9/11 happened the world changed and still to this day not fully recovered for that catastrophic event
It really should be what we remember most of all. M Yunupingu pointing a defiant finger at the podium and "all those talking politicians" (remember, it would have been John Howard sitting up there) sends chills down my spine. I can't imagine the current government would sanction a performance of Treaty and Beds are Burning at this, the biggest stage, bringing Australia's shame to the world. If only all those people from all those countries knew what they were dancing to, knew what those lyrics meant. I was 12 and born outside of Australia; I certainly didn't know. I dearly wish I did.

clearly, but it's what it symbolises.
Yassssssss!!! My favourite part was Elle McPherson on the cat walk to 'Don't Call Me Baby' by Madison Avenue and Priscilla Queen of the Desert with CeCe Peniston's, 'Finally'! Oh, I almost forgot, 'on a night like this' by Kylie! The best ever closing ceremony!!!
My favourite was the performance with Kylie Minogue's "Dancing Queen".
I remember the dumb sports commentators from my country saying that Priscilla, Queen of the Desert was a very well known and beloved doll in Australia
@@victorserrano8294 😂😂😂
Imagine if AC/DC performed at the closing ceremony. That would have been wild
Imagine they remake their songs for the Olympics. “Back in blue (and gold)” instead of back in black.
I dont think anything can best Waltzing Matilda!

Brisbane 2032
Why were they not there?they are Australia's best Rock exports after all😀
1:18:00 Nikki Webster's WE W'LL BE ONE is the best song. It also has very deep meaning. She is wonderful singer🥹👌🏻👍🏻
In Indonesia the scene of this song from 2000 Olympics Closing Ceremony are became filler to broadcasted in 5 private TV stations on that time
I agree. It is the most memorable for me as well and because I was a teenager first time watching the Olympics.

2:13:00 2:13:56 Bananas in Pyjamas is one of my all-time fav Australian entertainment icon, their series also very popular in some of Asian countries (mainly in Southeast Asian countries including Indonesia), in my country Indonesia the series was very popular & aired on Indosiar every weekend since 1998 until 2003, and Elle MacPherson is one of my fav role model because she known for hosting The Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model. Apa kabar semua? Greetings me from Indonesia! BIP is also the greatest icon for 90s kids...
I wish they’d revive Bananas in Pyjamas as a live action show again (the cgi revival was kinda sore to look at 😬)
@@prowolf633 Yes, I also wish the franchise can be popularized in Asian countries too
Thank you olympic for uploading ng full coverage of sydney olympic
It was so awesome to have been there to see it for real. Maybe one day this will be released on DVD as was the Opening Ceremony.

Wat an outstanding Olympic was 2000 sydney still remember, pure nostalgia.
hora 2:05:55 when kylie minogue was the star 20 years ago, i 12 was years with song "in your eyes"
Huge. Fantastic.
Australia put on the best opening and closing ceremonies I love waltzing Matilda!! Australia is on my bucket list. Aussies I love u guys!!
Slim Dusty singing Waltzing Matilda was my favourite as well 👏👏👏🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🙋♀️
We will welcome you with open arms when you visit enjoy our bueatiful country :D

Slim Dusty singing Waltzing Matilda with the crowd😢 feels
Snoopy I certainly was since I had the greatest time of my life in 2000 I knew Ian Thorpe at this moment in time he swam my local swimming centre in Sydney I don’t think I will experience that same buzz that the Sydney Olympics games have me ever again that period of time was very special
to this very day for me this is still the best olympic closing ceremony of all times!
What an amazing time. The world lost its innocence after this
I agree 1998/1999/2000 was such an amazing time to grow up in, times like these and other sporting moments will never be matched for me have too many good memories of these years, once 9/11 happened the world changed and still to this day not fully recovered for that catastrophic event
cmon, lets not get too nostalgic, there was still moments to enjoy after the 2000s
@@ENDOFDAYSX7 not just 9/11, the launch of Facebook and other social media application resulted in a generation that has become less empathetic.
It was never innocent to begin with tbh
@@TuberoseKisser but it was certainly better compared to decades prior
great moments, memories, & great games..twas when we were all a bit younger...Sydney was a great place to b back then..

YOTHU YINDI !!!! Ultimately the most iconic
2:07:24 Hear the crowd cheering when they hear the first tunes of Dancing Queen
1:29:27 🎵🎵🎵 John Paul Young - Love is in the Air in Sydney 2000 🎵🎵🎵
a perfect song for this ceremony
From Strictly Ballroom. Still my favourite Aussie film ever. Thanks Baz for the movie and for this ceremony you produced. Great work!
awesome
So much love...perfection
AC/DC shoulda been there. Sydney was ground zero for the band back in the day. And of course Farnsey should have sung 'You're the Voice'.
They were invited but couldn't attend for some reason
@@jonnowood8382 I believe that they were asked to lip sync but refused
El mejor cierre de clausura olímpica... inolvidable Jhon Paul Young que elegancia y toda esa atmósfera de unión entre naciones que une la música....el amor está en el aire...

Closing ceremony of the Best Olympic Games ever ... this is my country ... this is my city ... so very proud!!!
57:47 THIS IS MY COUNTRY THIS IS MY PROUD..THIS THE REALLY MESSAGE OF THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT
Which song is it? Really peaceful, loved it :)
Exacto. Muy emotivo la verdad
Kylie's performance of Dancing Queen was spectacular.
