I got another project for you Michael . Another big entry point for water is all the termination bars with the plastic trim over it . The trim isn't water tight . So water gets in around the screw heads . I'm going to do every screw one by one , pull it out put calk in hole then screw back in . You could make a 12 part mini series out of it . Your channel is 👍
Thank you so much for the feedback and the thumbs up :) Its so important to keep water from intruding into the trailer. Here's another video that you may be interested in watching that may be helpful to you, its a long one but very informative, feel free to skip through it if you like. ruclips.net/video/zUxnQ6C1BlY/видео.html www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
Thank you for this video. I have a front upper marker light I believe is leaking and I will be sealing all tomorrow. Had no idea what to expect. Now I do! Thanks 👍🏻
You're welcome David and thanks for watching. Hopefully you have time to check yours out to make sure they are all sealed up before damage occurs to your trailer. I sure am happy we sealed ours up so i don't have to worry about water damage. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
Nice work; looks like you're very consciencous as well. Two comments if I may............. should think about replacing those incandescent fixtures with nice bright LEDs.........makes a world of difference for the conspicuity of your RV. If you get some Eternabond waterproof tape, you can cut a paper stencil to the size of the area of the bottom of the light fixture and then use that stencil to cut the eternabond tape to size. Then place the tape on the wall of the RV to cover the screw holes and the large hole in the centre, then screw the light fixture into place over the Eternabond tape. By doing so you have just sealed the hole and the screw holes from water running down into them and there's no gross silicone mess....
Thank you for your compliments :) I think I may replace the exterior lights to LED's in the future and if I do I'll be sharing a video with everyone on RUclips. That's a great idea using Eterna Bond tape as you mentioned above. I may add a little silicone where the wires come through the Eterna Bond to each light fixture just in case :)
Good for you. I sealed all mine a couple of years ago. Time to go back and check them again. :) My front light switch doesn't work either. But? I never use it. Thanks Michael.
Any reason you didn’t also do the speakers? I’d be tempted to do absolutely everything on the rig. Also thought it would be good to put a dab of sealant in the hole that the wires go through (in the light part).
Thanks for watching, the comments, and recommendations. I thought about doing the speakers but they looked like they were sealed up pretty good and still are to this day. I agree it may have been good to seal up the holes like you mentioned but, I'm hoping the with how I did it and with the light covers no water should get in there. I like your thinking Brent. ruclips.net/video/TlDDbE8votg/видео.html
If you have to change a bulb, how hard will it be to remove that light housing after removing the screws? or can you just change the bulb without removing the housing?
Hello John, thanks for watching and your question. So with all the light housings you see in the video I'm able to remove the lens from the light housing, once that is done I can replace the bulb with a new one and then put the cover back on. If I ever need to remove the light housing I can just take my time and work a plastic scraper around and under the housing to remove it. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
Thanks for the video. Was the hole for the Furrion camera wiring about the same diameter? I’ve replaced that switched light on the front wall. A complete replacement light is inexpensive from eTrailer or Amazon but I suppose you can just replace the switch. You’ll have to seal the clear plastic to keep water out and prevent the switch from shorting out again.
Your very welcome. If I remember correctly it is a little bigger than the other holes but not much. I did this several months ago and didn't make a video on it. I'm thinking about just replacing the whole light like you did. I found one that a lot brighter than the factory installed one - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LFXTM8G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A3TJX9QN5A3WSH&psc=1 Thnak you on the tip to seal around the lens.
I have a hunch this is exactly why I have a soft spot under a bunk. C'mon manufacturers!!!! Would it kill you guys to seal up these penetrations properly??? What could a tube of caulk cost for them?
I agree Liber 100%. I wish the manufactures would take a couple extra minutes to seal areas better than they do. It would make everyone's lives a lot better. Thanks for watching and commenting. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
14:50 white light. Same issue on our 2018 2506, only they switched to LED for all the lights. The switch is tough to find, I replaced with a standard toggle micro switch, had to drill another hole to mount it though. The switch they use is not rated for wet conditions, and of course, where it is is nothing but wet. Nothing but the cheapest for any campers, eh?
Yep that switch is not made for outdoor applications, I got a new light as a gift that is brighter but it looks like the same switch so I will probably replace it like you did when it fails. I've had the new light for a few months but haven't had time to install it :)
It’s still okay to seal the tops of the lights though right? Like from the factory? I have a marker light that looks loose, going to remove and seal your way but probably a thin bead across the top too. Need to do around fender trim, windows and door too I think. Bought clear rv sealant/caulk today.
Yes its okay to seal the tops of the lights but I would also remove the light housing like I did, inspect to make sure no water got in wall and caused damage, and then apply sealant behind housing and reassemble. Just make sure you buy a good quality sealant that will work and last.
sorry a little confused, I about to replace my marker lights with LED but I was thinking I had to use caulk around the plastic housing, so just apply to the hole where the wires are??
I applied the chalking sealant around the actual holes under the plastic housing rather than around the outside like you mentioned. I felt it would be better to seal like I did so the chalking would be protected from weather and not get all over the side of the trailer while applying it. The chalking sealant I used was awesome - www.amazon.com/Alpha-Systems-Protection-Non-Sag-Sealant/dp/B07NJ958QN/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=super+flex+non+sag+selant&qid=1579054527&sr=8-1-spell
Michael I believe your in CA if so and if they are still in business...Frys Electronics for the switch. Also I havent checked on the sealant your using but I bet its a Ureathane and not a silicone base. Ureathane will stick much better around the light bases if you wanted to reseal once installed. Good video.
Thanks Scott, unfortunately Fry's is pretty far from where I live. I'm pretty sure I will be changing out the whole light fixture to a much brighter one, here's one I found on Amazon that looks good - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LFXTM8G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A3TJX9QN5A3WSH&psc=1 I bet you're so right about the clear silicone I had used, thanks for the tip on using the right stuff. And thank you for commenting and watching.
Great video Micheal, guess I have a weekend project now. 3 things, where did you get the sealant?, Second do you know off hand what number bulb is in the amber porch light ? And last my front light doesn't work either. Let us know if you find the switch.
Thanks Ed, I'll keep finding things for you to do :) I may just replace the whole front light with this light that is much brighter (first I need to make sure it will cover the holes before buying it) - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LFXTM8G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A3TJX9QN5A3WSH&psc=1 Here's the sealant I used - www.amazon.com/Alpha-Systems-Protection-Self-Leveling-Sealant/dp/B07NJDKY52/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?keywords=Alpha+Systems+Super+Flex+Total+Protection+Non-Sag+Sealant%2C+11+Oz.&qid=1579060860&s=automotive&sr=1-1-fkmr1 I'm not sure what the number on the light is :(
Thanks for watching. I think what you meant to say is "What did you use to clear fiberglass?" If this is what you said - I used Denatured Alcohol - www.walmart.com/ip/Klean-Strip-Denatured-Alcohol-1-Quart/23232923?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=550&adid=22222222227025404209&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=80421397729&wl4=aud-430887228898:pla-177652705969&wl5=9032310&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=112354493&wl11=online&wl12=23232923&veh=sem&gclid=CjwKCAiA6vXwBRBKEiwAYE7iS-zWL9j8aZJVjTjM3Y4vS8U3Kaybg39GmFUCVYzsIo1HSeDE-FFBJRoCKckQAvD_BwE
Needs to be butyl tape. But places domt use that shit on these new campers bc they wamt you to have to spend 45k + every few years for a new camper bc it fell apart

I use proflex for all of the vertical seals around lights, speakers, doors, windows, compartment doors, and so on. It’s great stuff and not silicone.
Great choice :)

Do you have power to that light that isn't working? Mine has a switch inside that provides power to that light.
Very good. Thank you very much for sharing - appreciate ya! 👍

Put a strip of eternabond tape and then just make a hole for wires , No bigger than needed, I'm happy to see you didn't use a pure silicone
Thanks for the tip Mike, great idea
Excellent job as always!

Yea, most years they used non outdoor rated lights. Now i believe they've upgraded and finally use the right outdoor lights.
