    Because I am a really slow walker and wanted to stay in albergues that offered communal meals, or were unique, I emailed all of them in Feb. and reserved a bed. I found one in San Sol, called Albergue Karma, that offered single beds for 6€, and he made dinner for us for 8€ p.p. and served us in a cool, stone cellar. What a deal!!!
    It pays to look around and reserve sometimes, especially if you are slow or older or want a more unique experience.
    For municipals, do stay at the one in Azofra! Single beds and only 2 people to a room, with a big locker for your pack.

    For me, the quieter the better. A single room. Noisy places at nights. Snoring and wandering wc visits. I choose tents along the camino. Stop where you wish to. I did. Its so beautiful waking up to a voice saying... Buen camino 😀🙏

    This is a very good overview of albergues on the Camino de Santiago. There are many different types, of course. I think it's worth trying different types of albergue. I used to like them all, because after a long day walking I was ever so grateful to have a bed and a shower. Anything else was a bonus.

    I am happy to hear things have opened back up again. I did part of the Norte in September 2021 and I had to sleep outside a few times. I moved to the Frances, which was worse, as it was cold outside. So cut short my trip as I didn't have proper gear to be sleeping in the elements and spent way over my budget. Wanting to return this fall and probably do the Portuguese. Thank you for sharing your experiences and tips.

    Thank you @CaminoTellers for all the very helpful camino advice. I'd sincerely appreciate your thoughts: To what extent do you think wild camping or camping in campgrounds is possible on the Camino Frances? My partner and I are experienced lightweight backpackers and already have our gear and would enjoy being able to camp part of the time and to occasionally stay in albergues and hotels. And do you think it would it be possible to do this while still meeting up with new friends for meals in town? We've also heard horror stories about how noisy some of the albergues can be at night, making it impossible to sleep, so that a tent for a good part of the time seems even more attractive (would you agree)?

    I hope to walk the Camino one day. I have been enjoying your videos as I dream. I was wondering if you could answer a question for me: I use a cpap machine to sleep. How does this work on the Way? Are alburgies still available to me? Are outlets readily available? Or do I need tobplan on using hotel rooms instead? Will it make more sense to use a porter because of the added weight? Thoughts on this topic are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Big decision is to take or not take sleeping bag, because some camino forums say some albergues dont have blankets or have dirty blankets?

    • @caminotellers
      @caminotellers  9 месяцев назад

      If you stay in municipal and donation based albergues we would recommend sleeping bag(for colder seasons) and sleeping liner(for summer season). If you’re thinking of staying in private albergues, they should have some blankets, mostly clean 😅 but as they say, there is always a rotten apple in the basket 😀😀

    Pro tip about earplugs. Get used to them BEFORE, you go. Not during. They can take a bit of getting used to. Also, don't get an ear infection before so you spend most of the time unable to cover ears. Luckily mine was mild but still.

Yet I have a wrecked back, and even after backpacking Camino in my country, on the 3rd day, I couldn't continue because of the pain (I was carrying a max of 6 kg with me). But I love mountains! I have done hut-to-hut hiking for 5 days with no problem in Italy, just carrying a couple of clothes to change into and no 2nd pair of shoes or sleeping bag or anything heavy. And I really need some time for myself now... Do you know if it's possible to get a bed (not for 50 euros) in an albergue in March/April without a sleeping bag and travel camino del norte with a 30 l backpack? Also, at this moment, I'd really need some human interaction. Do you know If there will be people on the way to share a talk or a drink with? THANK YOU!

So it’s a matter of checking few in the places where you wish to stop(more or less) emailing them and you will know perfectly! Probably the first one contacted will tell you what is the situation on the camino( which are open or close etc), this would be my advice. And shops? There are always things open, obviously less but always. :) I hope it could help… try it ;)

    where do you put your backpack in albergues? is it safe?

    • @caminotellers

      What i normally do is having my money and passport on me and the rest is only clothing and food, no much to loose... in some albergues they have lockers but not in many. In general Camino is a heathy and safe enviroment, and if someone want to still my dirty socks, it mean that he need it more then me :)

      It was the safest time. No problems, on portuguese or Spanish route.. Never felt scared or concerned. People along the way were more than kind, generous and respectfull. Kindness begets kindness. Incredible experience. Travelled in March 2017. Weather was fine. Not too cold or hot. Only sprinkling of rain. Just right for me.

    We had a great snorer one night in Rates. Everyone huffing and doing nothing. I got up and as politely as I could I put my hands on him and rolled him on his side. I told him he is too young to snore. Not a peep out of him the whole night. Funny he left early morning...🤔
