Marko now lives in Spain with his Brazilian wife, and their 6 month old baby girl. Her first child, he has 22? year old twins, one of whom is a drummer. Marko is building a homestudio and plans recording his 2nd solo album. His old band TAROT, with his guitarist brother, is planning a comeback. The will play a charity concert in Finland next summer. There might be more Tarot later.
Marco is doing a small solo tour in Finland. And there will be at least two Tarot concerts, as the first one was sold out so fast (they hadn't realized how popular Tarot still is).
@@amygoodson-catlady Marko has experience singing lullaby to a baby girl, and to his twin sons of course, just like Marko's father sang to him and his brother. Marko played the acoustic guitar and sang Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan" to Jukka's, the original Nightwish drummer, newborn daughter. "MARKO HIETALA - LULLABY". I guess it has to be Jukka's wife whispering: "She's watching so closely. Love at first sight."
I don't speak Finnish, but I am told he asks "If I play the chorus, will you sing along?" The audience answers "Yes!" He responds "Do you know the words?" They answer "Yes!" And he proceeds to the chorus. It's always enjoyable to see you react to and analyze music. Thank you!
A Finnish national told me you can translate it many ways but the essence is the same: "If I play the chorus, you will sing along? You will? OK, then we'll do it!"
This is an absolutely haunting song, Marko wrote the lyrics and Tuomas helped him with the instrumentals. That was an amazing breakdown of this simple and yet complex song. I can't wait to see your next reaction to their music.
I love Marco’s voice, one of my favorite male vocalists (the others being Sting and David Draiman), it’s such a unique and interesting sound. I think what I like the most about it is this strange balance between strength and fragility. Somehow his voice displays an incredible strength and power but also has a fragile vulnerability to it. Like lace made of iron covered with velvet.
Ciaoooo, welcome here :) You said Sting...one of my favorite male voices!! The power and the beauty of these men is in the freedom to change their colours, exploring new parts of their voices :)
Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah) is a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist both solo and in harmony! Marko actually wrote the music to The Islander, and Tuomas brought lyrics. This performance is a fan favorite bc Marko looks so happy and confident at this show. Marko is playing a custom Warwick bass/Framus guitar, double neck, model, Infinity Panthera...nicknamed "The Beast" for its size and weight. But what a beautiful tone it has! Hear more solo Marko, with his solo band, Tarot, with the song Tides, live (Undead Indeed). His vocal delivery on this song gives me chills every time!
@@TrainingVoiceilaria you too, i will pass on your wishes to our children and grandchildren when we see them over easter. Buona Pasque, fijne Paasdagen..
Ciao Ilara! As always, you're very thoughtful and attentive, and put a lot of work into these. It's appreciated! Look forward to what you might do next.
Ciao Eric, grazie mille I'm so happy you saw the hard work on these videos...I put a lot of energy into them (with lighting, recording, editing, studying music...:)
I hope I told you that I like weasels!... At least they come back in time! ;) Some ask who was the best Nightwish singer, some reply "Marko!".. His smile after the others rejoin and at the end.... Wish he would return to Nightwish but only if he's happy there! So good that Floor is happy singing back-up!
The Islander was the #7 song of 17 in this concert. This concert was not trivial for any of them. Marco may have sounded tired, but in reality it reflects the song meaning itself. In addition Floor's parents were in the audience. 1. Shudder Before the Beautiful 2. Yours is an Empty Hope 3. Amaranth 4. She is my Sin 5. Dark Chest of Wonders 6. My Walden 7. The Islander 8. Elan 9. Weak Fantasy 10. Storytime 11. Endless Forms Most Beautiful 12. Alpenglow 13. Stargazers 14. Sleeping Sun 15. Ghost Love Score 16. Last Ride of the Day 17. The Greatest Show on Earth (including audio post song from Richard Dawkins)
So beautiful seeing how you enjoyed this softer side of Nightwish. Marko is quite a vocalist as well. He is lucky to have the best backup singer on the planet. IMHO Loved it Ilara! Ciao.
Ciao Ilara! I like that you don't stop the song, like most vocal coaches do, and do your analysis at the end! I really appreciate the work you are doing in the end, thank you very much! This is why I subscribed! The title you put is in German, are you in Germany like me? I live in Munich but, io sono greco. Una faccia una razza! 🤪🤘
Ciao Konstantinos, thank you so much, I'm very happy you appreciate my work cause I put into it a lot of energy ;) ps I'm italian, I was in Naxos some years ago😉
You mention posture a lot, and as somebody who started as a boy-treble chorister I totally get that! My old choir-master (back in the day when such things were not frowned upon) would walk behind the choristers prodding any that didn't have a proper upright posture in the back with his cane, or between the shoulder-blades if we hunched over and closed our shoulders. Needless to say, we all learned fast! You'll notice that the speaker he's got his foot on raises his thigh far enough to take ALL of the weight of his guitar. The guitar strap is slightly slack across his back, NONE of its weight is on his shoulder. His arms only have to slightly adjust the position of the instrument while it's in that balance point. This is the only reason he can keep an open posture. As a bassist he's used to carrying the weight of a heavier guitar but ANY double-neck electric is always a serious weight, this one in particular, nicknamed "The Beast," being famous for being especially so, even though inspection reveals it as a semi-solid body. If its weight was dragging at his left shoulder I leave it to your imagination what that would do to a singer's ability to maintain an open posture and clear breath-support! I've played a friends Gibson double-neck and I honestly wouldn't want to try and sing, produce any kind of tone, with that thing slung around my neck on a standard strap!
Ciao David, I was surprised when I read here in the comments the weight...this makes harder to mantain the correct position so another time...what a great artist Marko! Thank you for your precious comment
Ciao!
