These AZ videos make me joyfully depressed. I miss the old home state a lot and each of them seem to bring back something specific. This one really made me miss spring. Nothing else smells like the desert in springtime. I'm so glad I got to grow up there and so bummed I'm not there now.

You can see why I love the SW. My camp, where I camped for 20+years, is about 6 hrs NE of where you are, around Blanding UT, In the 4 corners Area, where Arazona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado all come together. Only place, 4 states corners touch in the US. Yes, Hummingbirds are fantastic to watch. The squirrel's you were seeing are called Golden Mantled. Must people call all like these Chipmunks, which are much smaller. So glad to see you enjoying your trip.

I used to live in Tucson. If you get a chance, go to "Old Tucson" and the Desert museum. And maybe a trip up to Mt. Lemon (lots of Hummingbirds). There is also the Pima Air Museum.

There have been hundreds of people who go into but never came out. They were MOSTLY looking for treasure. I was impressed that your guard dogs didn't have to be packed out. Sometimes, these trips wear out the wee creatures. The Disney folks made several shorts with those squirrels. CHIP AND DALE. They were rough on Donald Duck, as I recall. Anyway, great job, Marie. I drove straight though from California to Florida through Arizona last year for the first time, and was awestruck at the configurations and size of those things. Amazing. It was non-stop mountains from the start, that seemed to never end.
I used to hike and camp in the Superstitions back in the 1970s. You had to be careful up in there because there are a lot rattlers and you can run into some very strange characters. I wore leather gaiters to protect my legs against snakes or cholla cacti.
Fantastic hike. Definitely must be in good shape like Marie. I think we all know where Marie will be visiting 200 miles north of Flatiron before she returns to France. Can not wait to see her face and reaction. 🌵🐾🌞
I'd double down on echo'ing that comment...now, don't everybody rush up there! It is quite challenging for both the unfit and un-hiking-initiated (regardless of fitness). I was impressed Marie! Lots of even experienced hikers are shocked by how rugged the more vertical part of the "trail" is. (Though, looking at it from the trailhead should give you a pretty good idea!) Another trail, probably the most popular/hiked, Peralta on the south side...is less challenging (flatter, far less if any hand work, though it still climbs 1300'+ in a little over two miles...so still be 'reasonably fit' and sure-footed) but just as rewarding in its own way with its views, showing the incredible ruggedness of the "inside" of the Superstitions, and especially known for its overlook of the famous "Weaver's Needle" at the end (middle turn-around). Marie's note about water is on point.. People of all stripes--including many who think they are seasoned hikers--chronically under-estimate and don't hydrate enough hiking the desert. Of course the more critical as temperatures rise, but any time of year really. Also, this time of year and early fall are particularly high season for the snakes, but year-round in this neck of the woods (desert) can be snake season--you have to watch where you step and put your hands; they can be out sunning in the winter on a even just a mildly warm(er) day. Marie, such a good video - I can't believe you're in my backyard of almost 60 years. The Superstitions are such an Arizona icon. If you look closely (don't blink) in the 1939 John Wayne movie Stagecoach, you'll see the coach careening through the desert washes just a mile or two from the Wilderness line, looking west-southwest from the Flat Iron, and just about exactly where my folks owned property since 1956, then later later lived for many years after I flew the coop. I'm so glad you enjoyed Arizona! Come back soon and I'll also echo what Steel City hinted at and others have said about checking out the Grand Canyon--either or both Bright Angel and Havasupai, as the two most well known trails, if you can "only" do one or two. (Edit: if you haven't already). Both will let you know (in case there's any question) how small we all are! I have never been to the Himalayas, but the GC I think is the closest thing North America has (what I've sensed from those who have been to Everest etc) of that degree of take-your-breath-away "much bigger than we are" scale and grandeur. And although lots of people hike it, it doesn't matter... it's really an individual rewarding sense of accomplishment for having done it you'll remember for the rest of your life.
I have done this exact hike with my dad sometime around 1990. We got to hang out and chat and bs for hours, which was great because we rarely did that when I was a kid, and the view was gorgeous. Bring enough water and wear good boots. It gets steep near the end. We met a nice group of Italian tourists at the top who were very enthusiastic over the climb and the view. Thank you so much for bringing up such a nice memory. We, unfortunately, did not find the Lost Dutchman mine that day (I think that's what it's called). That was an excellent day. I miss him still.
Quite the beautiful view. I would have been dead about a half mile into that hike. Glad to see you are enjoying the natural beauty of America. Most people here don't even care about it, and will never visit it. I hope your video changes a few people's minds about our country.
What a spectacular video, Marie! The hike looks like it was a little taxing, but it was the right time of the year for it and the scenery was great. I'm so pleased you're enjoying yourself. Stay safe and take good care!
I know it's unlikely that you would visit the north-east anytime soon, since you already visited the east-coast once, but if and when you do visit New Hampshire, I recommend doing ridge hikes, where you hike up above the tree-line and then go from one peek to the next with an amazing view the whole time. I can tell that you would be able to handle the Franconia Ridge Trail Loop without too much trouble, and if that's too easy my favorite and longest hike I've done in one day was from Mount Jackson (via the Mount Jackson Trail), to Mount Pierce, to Mount Monroe, and finally Mount Washington. It's longer but a little less intensive than going straight up Mount Washington, and you'll spend the majority of the hike above the tree-line. The best views would be late September, or early October for the Autumn colors, but the weather is more likely to be friendlier in the summer. I say more likely, because the weather atop Mount Washington is unpredictable and can change suddenly, and there is a non-zero percent chance of snow on Mount Washington on any day of the year. It's also possible to get some pretty high winds; there was a sustained wind speed of around 60 Miles Per Hour for about 3 hours the day I did the hike, and there wasn't anything special in the forecast. It was also starting to rain as we were descending Mount Jackson at the end of the day. We started pretty early and the sun went down before we finished, so I recommend packing a flashlight and warm water resistant clothing to put on if things take a turn. You could also cut the time in half if you can coordinate someone to pick you up from Mount Washington; There's a road (a very steep road) that goes all the way up to the summit.
Bravo, Top of the world there Marie 🧗🎉👏 What a Rewarding Hike, such a unique & magical landscape that never fails to meet our expectations. You rose to the challenge tackling that mountain, pushing your limits like spider woman, it was great seeing the GoPro used in a new way, it felt just like being there, those rocks looked sharp & you do have to look out when overturning them for scorpions & suchlike, gloves are a must have. It's remarkable to think there was once volcanos there, 28 of them & sunset crater might still be active even know it last erupted a 1000 years ago. like you I wasn't expecting there to be hummingbirds , yes maybe a butterfly but not what looked like chipmunks 🐿️ darting around, it's amazing how nature adapts to the harshest conditions, I've noticed it's the same with the flowering blooms their to. 🏵️ I was also wondering what a crying dinosaur was , now I do it's the running 'draw' of water like tears from the mountain that looks like it's head. It really was worth it climbing to the top with your doggies for those breathtaking views of the valley, what a moment, imagine what it's like when the stars come out. There's a Apache myth about a hole among the mountains that leads to the underworld where the wind blows causing the dust storms to happen & a cougar shaped shadow that appears twice a year, your probably glad you didn't know that before hand, the park has quite a legendary history to it with searching for the Dutch mans gold & the peralta family , there's tours of the nearby mining town gold head where you can see the artifacts . To finish with there's so many awesome supes to explore there, you definitely choose among the best , there's also the wave cave sometimes you can have it all to yourself must be so peaceful, ridgeline the toughest hike, treasure loop more gentle if your a beginner, the hieroglyphics trail with its petroglyphs when the hohokam people lived there & probably the most popular one the Peralta trail a wonderland leading beyond Fremont saddle where you can get the best views to end with of Weavers Needle. There was also a star studded women's golf🏌️ tournament that took place near the park recently. Thanks french fry it's been a blast , it looked like it was one of your favourite days so far , you deserved that delicious snack after all that , always keep your adventurous spirit alive & that wonderful smile, it's going to be a hot 🕶️ day so stay hydrated 🥤 See y'all later , I'm off to practice my whistling & harmonica playing like in the spaghetti westerns 🤠🌵 ❤️ ✌️

Thanks for this. When I was younger I did that hike. However, when I was almost to the top I fell and broke my tailbone. I had to hike down over those boulders without bending. I haven't seen that view in a long time. I'm glad you enjoyed Arizona. It is definitely a unique place.
I've been in Arizona for 25yrs and never hiked up superstition mountain. We put nectar on our balcony for hummingbirds. The desert has always been beautiful to me. Growing up in West Virginia I saw nothing but green. I have no plans ever leaving the desert southwest 🌵 ☀
Glad you weren't attacked by any cacti or any other prickly plants. It can be rough hiking after being grabbed by a prickly plant ( I had one grab me through my sneaker at Carlsbad Caverns years ago and it took for that last thorn to work itself out of my foot , but I did learn to limp without cussing. Beautiful hike and with that kind of hike you didn't have to worry about over-eating. Did you look for the lost Dutchman Mine??Carrying heavy gold down a mountain wouldn't be easy or fun.

One of the first things I learned as a kid hiking in Arizona was to always carry a comb to flick off cacti should you brush against one. And water. You can’t have too much water.
Hi Marie!!! What an amazing climb and hike up Supersition Mountain ⛰😊! I loved all those unique shrubs you caught right at first, and where you are heading to hike looks imposing and ominous 😮. The volcanic activities and their resulting work of art with that huge 2,000-foot dome rising in the desert are amazing, and I would pay attention to that sign showing the scorpions, black widows, gila monsters and rattlesnakes in the area (a lot like my native El Paso, Texas!)! (You even saw a cardinal!) You really found the dinosaur quickly 😉 in your New York Yankee Hard Rock Cafe hiking outfit 😎🤗, with those solid hiking shoes and glove too ❗ The video footage of the terrain as you climbed was fascinating, along with the warning to watch for the squirrels at the top 😊, and even showed the small stream flowing down the mountainside. There were so many places you climbed those sheer stones and giant boulders (I kept thinking "don't fall!"), wow! You reall can see forever while enjoying lunch at the majestic top 😲, along with those cute squirrels 🤣🤣! Marie, I just love all your muical accompaniment choices that add the perfect mood to each part of your climb, up AND down. Going down was easier, but it looked a little precarious at certain places where a fall could easily happen if you were not careful 😮. You were surely dressed perfectly for the challenging hike and climb, and deserved those delicious looking hot dogs and pastries/doughnuts at QT 🌭🍩🤗! What fun!!! Thank you so much for taking us along your amazing hiking adventure!! Enjoy your travels and take care Marie 🥰🤗❤.
So very cool to see you out hiking the Superstitions! I can only imagine what other places you have on your list to see and experience while there. I loved that you shot video of you climbing up and down, and even the chipmunks at the top. Seeing the food you chose to get at the end of the video really made me smile. It's wonderful to you hiking on a mountain I used to see daily growing up in Mesa, Arizona! All this time I didn't know the Superstitions were the result of volcanic action. I never climbed it myself, so congratulations! It's breathtaking, in every sense of the word.

Great video. The town at the bottom of the mountain (Apache Junction) was my home for about 30 years. I spent a lot of time in those mountains.

I like the fact that you include local wildlife in many of your videos. A video without animals is like a day without sunshine.

It's amazing how green everything is after a wet winter. I haven't been there for years even though it is just a few hours away.
Just think, probably 90% of the residents that live near there have never hiked that, nor seen those views. Glad you got to see it.

That hike had a change in elevation of more than half a mile. Pretty strenuous!

I know it's unlikely that you would visit the north-east anytime soon, since you already visited the east-coast once, but if and when you do visit New Hampshire, I recommend doing ridge hikes, where you hike up above the tree-line and then go from one peek to the next with an amazing view the whole time. I can tell that you would be able to handle the Franconia Ridge Trail Loop without too much trouble, and if that's too easy my favorite and longest hike I've done in one day was from Mount Jackson (via the Mount Jackson Trail), to Mount Pierce, to Mount Monroe, and finally Mount Washington. It's longer but a little less intensive than going straight up Mount Washington, and you'll spend the majority of the hike above the tree-line.
The best views would be late September, or early October for the Autumn colors, but the weather is more likely to be friendlier in the summer. I say more likely, because the weather atop Mount Washington is unpredictable and can change suddenly, and there is a non-zero percent chance of snow on Mount Washington on any day of the year. It's also possible to get some pretty high winds; there was a sustained wind speed of around 60 Miles Per Hour for about 3 hours the day I did the hike, and there wasn't anything special in the forecast. It was also starting to rain as we were descending Mount Jackson at the end of the day. We started pretty early and the sun went down before we finished, so I recommend packing a flashlight and warm water resistant clothing to put on if things take a turn. You could also cut the time in half if you can coordinate someone to pick you up from Mount Washington; There's a road (a very steep road) that goes all the way up to the summit.

What a Rewarding Hike, such a unique & magical landscape that never fails to meet our expectations. You rose to the challenge tackling that mountain, pushing your limits like spider woman, it was great seeing the GoPro used in a new way, it felt just like being there, those rocks looked sharp & you do have to look out when overturning them for scorpions & suchlike, gloves are a must have. It's remarkable to think there was once volcanos there, 28 of them & sunset crater might still be active even know it last erupted a 1000 years ago. like you I wasn't expecting there to be hummingbirds , yes maybe a butterfly but not what looked like chipmunks 🐿️ darting around, it's amazing how nature adapts to the harshest conditions, I've noticed it's the same with the flowering blooms their to. 🏵️
I was also wondering what a crying dinosaur was , now I do it's the running 'draw' of water like tears from the mountain that looks like it's head. It really was worth it climbing to the top with your doggies for those breathtaking views of the valley, what a moment, imagine what it's like when the stars come out. There's a Apache myth about a hole among the mountains that leads to the underworld where the wind blows causing the dust storms to happen & a cougar shaped shadow that appears twice a year, your probably glad you didn't know that before hand, the park has quite a legendary history to it with searching for the Dutch mans gold & the peralta family , there's tours of the nearby mining town gold head where you can see the artifacts .
To finish with there's so many awesome supes to explore there, you definitely choose among the best , there's also the wave cave sometimes you can have it all to yourself must be so peaceful, ridgeline the toughest hike, treasure loop more gentle if your a beginner, the hieroglyphics trail with its petroglyphs when the hohokam people lived there & probably the most popular one the Peralta trail a wonderland leading beyond Fremont saddle where you can get the best views to end with of Weavers Needle.
There was also a star studded women's golf🏌️ tournament that took place near the park recently.

Thanks for this. When I was younger I did that hike. However, when I was almost to the top I fell and broke my tailbone. I had to hike down over those boulders without bending. I haven't seen that view in a long time. I'm glad you enjoyed Arizona. It is definitely a unique place.
I've been in Arizona for 25yrs and never hiked up superstition mountain. We put nectar on our balcony for hummingbirds. The desert has always been beautiful to me. Growing up in West Virginia I saw nothing but green. I have no plans ever leaving the desert southwest 🌵 ☀

Glad you weren't attacked by any cacti or any other prickly plants. It can be rough hiking after being grabbed by a prickly plant ( I had one grab me through my sneaker at Carlsbad Caverns years ago and it took for that last thorn to work itself out of my foot , but I did learn to limp without cussing. Beautiful hike and with that kind of hike you didn't have to worry about over-eating. Did you look for the lost Dutchman Mine??Carrying heavy gold down a mountain wouldn't be easy or fun.

One of the first things I learned as a kid hiking in Arizona was to always carry a comb to flick off cacti should you brush against one. And water. You can’t have too much water.
Hi Marie!!! What an amazing climb and hike up Supersition Mountain ⛰😊! I loved all those unique shrubs you caught right at first, and where you are heading to hike looks imposing and ominous 😮. The volcanic activities and their resulting work of art with that huge 2,000-foot dome rising in the desert are amazing, and I would pay attention to that sign showing the scorpions, black widows, gila monsters and rattlesnakes in the area (a lot like my native El Paso, Texas!)! (You even saw a cardinal!) You really found the dinosaur quickly 😉 in your New York Yankee Hard Rock Cafe hiking outfit 😎🤗, with those solid hiking shoes and glove too ❗ The video footage of the terrain as you climbed was fascinating, along with the warning to watch for the squirrels at the top 😊, and even showed the small stream flowing down the mountainside. There were so many places you climbed those sheer stones and giant boulders (I kept thinking "don't fall!"), wow! You reall can see forever while enjoying lunch at the majestic top 😲, along with those cute squirrels 🤣🤣! Marie, I just love all your muical accompaniment choices that add the perfect mood to each part of your climb, up AND down. Going down was easier, but it looked a little precarious at certain places where a fall could easily happen if you were not careful 😮. You were surely dressed perfectly for the challenging hike and climb, and deserved those delicious looking hot dogs and pastries/doughnuts at QT 🌭🍩🤗! What fun!!! It's wonderful to you hiking on a mountain I used to see daily growing up in Mesa, Arizona! All this time I didn't know the Superstitions were the result of volcanic action. I never climbed it myself, so congratulations! It's breathtaking, in every sense of the word.
