Now this is a truck. It doesn't coddle its occupants, its occupants have to adjust to it. This is in excellent condition for being a work truck and the engine is barely broken in. It has many more years of service left. The intro was worth the suffering. I don't think Doug DeMuro or even Jay Leno have been lifted by a crane for a video.
I drove a 93 f350 crew cab, long box, 4x4, 351 gasser with this same 5 speed manual in it. Zach you aren't a wimp when you say that truck needs some muscle to drive it!! The company work truck would have been even harder then this to drive because it's only got the 351 in it, and it was underpowered as hell, so I had to work that clutch like a fucking man! I drove it all over the okanagan valley and then for three weeks I drove the whole crew out to revelstoke for a job on the Roger's pass and our commute was two hours each way! That truck was made to work! Little hint though, it's easier to work the clutch with your steel toed boots on then it is with any other shoes! The weight of the boot helps you out lol!
Goddamn ain't that the truth, at my last welding job we had a 95 F super duty 5spd with the 460, my steel toe Carolinas were the bees knees for the old 95, and bc I was the only youngin at the shop who could drive stick, this was MY truck for the year and a half I was there lol
That dashboard was new in the 1992 facelift. Go up one more weight class from this one and you were in a full-flegded medium-duty truck with a wide straight front axle, the same nose as the school bus, and those used the original dash from 1980 until they finally went to the new-for-'98 Super Duty cab sometime in the early '00s.
Always loved the OBS Fords. My dad and my maternal grandpa both owned 1988 F150 4x4s back in the 1990s. My dad had an XLT Lariat with the 4.9 I-6 and a 4 -speed manual with a granny low gear, and Grandpa's was the Custom with a 5.0 V8 and an automatic. Wish I could find those trucks today. They were the last of the real trucks, before they all became too car-like.
You are one of my favorite car reviewers and seriously deserve more views-your videos are stellar. Have you considered having more time in between uploads? That might help.
I daily drive a manual 7.3 just like this. At least my OBS f250 seems like a rather good daily driver, comfortable captains chairs and air conditioning (minus the heavy clutch of course, but you get used to it!)
It's about time you review one of these. I love these trucks. I have 2 of them. But mine are not work trucks. 😂😂😂 I'm glad you got to ride one of these. Softy, This aint your little sports car. 😂😂 I've been watching you since you had the little red mazda.. Great job, keep up the amazing work.
I wouldnt say the 6.4 started the death of the diesel, it certainly knocked ford down to third place, with Dmax and Cummins being second and first respectively
F-SUPERDUTY Enough gearing to pull anything you need. Not enough power from any of the engines to hurt the rest of the powertrain. A frame so flexible it's impossible to break or permanently bend.
Back when trucks were trucks. I think men are now allowing their wives to dictate what a truck should be, and they keep getting softer and softer. I like locking hubs solid axles and a 4x4 shifter coming out of the floor. I once owned a 1992 F350 plow truck and what a great truck it was. 460, 4 .10 axles Pulled and hauled like a bitch. you could sit a skid of rock salt in it and it hardly went down even a little bit. When you raised that 8 ft Western it did not go down at all the plow just came up.
Nowadays the 6.7 power stroke is a decently respected engine, the 7.3 is legendary, the 6.0 is not great but can be ok, and the 6.4 is a ticking time bomb
My dad had a brand new 1997 Ford E-350 long wheelbase XLT passenger van with the 7.3TD and a normal automatic trans... That was a beast and quite a pleasure to drive. Except of course in the corners and sharp bends... It had all the electrics to it, had a very different radio unit than this and it just rocked... This thing? It looks like a cheapo fleet truck that is a nightmare for the poor driver who has to drive it around... And this "no-bs" approach of bare-boned vehicles sucked because it tortured the drivers and the owners at the end... And good riddance to it...
@@fortheloveofnoise Fine, go ride a donkey with a wheel barrel strapped to it, if it floats your boat... That's the same way folks from the 50s-60s-70s thought when cars started getting safety equipment and comfort features...
If you are really in love and want one I've got one you can have, same as this but 4wd. Currently dead in the driveway with another failed electronic sensor, been towed 3 times in last 3 years. Look me up.
i still see trucks like these running around 20 to 30 years later. it's the "nobody care work harder" phrase in truck form.

The sacrifice of your man parts for your craft is admirable.
My brother drives one of those for his work truck, he can't stop telling me great things about it!
I use this same service truck today, except with an auto trans. She’s slow but the most reliable truck the company owns.
Great review of that OBS Ford Super Duty truck, Zack!
It's always nice to see work vehicles being featured on the channel.^^

He needs a shoutout from Mr. Demuro.
I have an F super duty bucket truck that came up fitted with a Dana 70 front axle. Truly a unicorn
Another great review, Zach.. the opening, though 🤣🤣👍

That intro was something else
Ha! Same shift knob as my '97 Ranger! Very cool video on a very cool truck. 👍
I had no idea this model existed. I guess the modern equivalent would be the F600/F550
Probably the best trucks ever made.

That has to be one of the lower mileage 7.3L Ford diesels! Most of them have over 300,000 miles!
Absolutely awesome review....
My dad an OBS Super Duty in a tow truck flatbed configuration
got a 97 450 7.3 auto. pulling pintle 8wheel dump, in flatbed has bobcat mini skid with grapple
"it actually made usable power, where you could drive it around daily and not worry about holding up traffic"
I wouldnt say the 6.4 started the death of the diesel, it certainly knocked ford down to third place, with Dmax and Cummins being second and first respectively
Fords back on top with the 6.7
Quality intro, love it lol
Awesome OBS Ford F-Super Duty with 10 Lugs vs the 8 Lugs That was in the Regular F350 In this body style
2:30 aaah yes California. My home state. Ruining automobiles since the 70s

I prefer cummins trucks but all obs trucks are incredibly reliable
i feel like the next gen is the work truck of the century but to each their own
even though it came out in the 90s that truck will always feel like a 2000s truck
No that goes to the 89-02 Chevy trucks, you still see more of those than the 03 and newer Chevy and fords combined.

3:23 got a crane, a clamp and a miller
Didn't adjust the harness and ended up with the loin burn !!!
dam! i want that truck mainly so that i can just play with the crane all day. 😂
Nice intro
TBH, my first thought was whether the weight of this vehicle requires a special certification (or even a CDL) to operate.
Surprisingly, my f250 has a final weight of 6500. That's from 1988. Just under the 7700 weight
Dhsjxndshaixhdbsbqjdjdbwbwbsh. THATS MY LITERAL DREAM WORK TRUCK. Damn I want one so much
Those are sweet trucks
That was fun.
What about Ford ambulances? Did they use this engine?
Yes
Is this one's for sale???
Isn't the Powerstroke the one everybody hates? Just asking.
Not the 7.3. Everyone hates the 6.4.
I thought that was the 6.0 that is bad
@@dyalanbrain001 It's not amazing but the 6.4 is avoided like the plague. Some mechanics will actually turn them away.

That thinking is why we are stuck with overly expensive top of the line prissy trucks.

Cool 🥰
you got soft hands😂
thats rlly stiffed. i only used to slack toyota shifters in the 90s
As usual California ruins everything.
right? 😂
When Ford used to make trucks
They still do. Take a look at the front steering/suspension under a F-250+ compared to a 2500+ GM truck or Ram. There's a big difference.
@CVTaxi I'll drive a Suzuki Ecuador b4 I get inside that unreliable death trap
Don't they still make trucks!? Lol!!!!
