I thought when the missing word round was from a newsletter about tea and tea rooms he'd be finished (not exactly a highlight of American culture), but no - he kept right at it.
I was born in 1990 and have lived my whole life in the US Midwest. The Right has been getting more and more extreme in my lifetime. But I think for those of us in the US, there is the "frog boiling in a pot" effect: it's harder to recognize it when you're in the middle of it. Especially when you have propaganda channels masquerading as news sources and legitimizing awful, bigoted agendas.
