Chris, when hanging-onto a rope with a heavy boat on the other end, at your end, make sure you put a turn around something solid, preferably a bollard, cleat or ring on the dock. It'll be much easier to manage the boat's mooring line that way. If you don't, and have to let go, and then get tangled-up, you'll be in the dock in seconds. And why not practice manoeuvring the boat using a rope hitched onto a hard-point ashore as a pivot?
Hi Terry, now that would have been a great idea, we have turned it round there before but just got sucked in by the turbine, over all a very unsuccessful trip, but at least we got her out, hope your well great to hear from you , chris and Bex
great video guys Chris when you are holding that middle line to swing the boat it would be easier to take a wrap or two on the piling than try and hold it by hand your 75kg wringing wet is no match for the tonnage of the Wombat. with regard to the ongoing electrical saga get yourself a copy of Nigel Calders "boat mechanical and electrical maintenance" the bible for DIY there is a section on battery and charging troubleshooting follow the steps. The obvious is those three agm batteries are completely insufficient for full time cruising even if they were performing to specs. Buy the book have a good read all will become clear. cheers Moose

Also consider a NOCO GB70 or a GB150 (if you can afford it) It will jump start anything!! - i've got one and it's a lifesaver - charges off USB!!
oh amazing, thanks for the tip, yes they are filthy, iv read a lot about the bulbs and a lot of people do say change them to led, it seams to make a huge difference by what people say, now that would would prove very handy in a bad situation thank you so much
Little observation, if you have the tiller too far around , you will not get effective steering as the wash is hitting the rudder straight on. The ideal angle is around 60 Deg.
So you get 13+v with the engine running, that proves that your batteries have the opportunity to be fully charged, but they drop voltage far too quickly, so that proves the problem lies in the leisure battery bank - you need disconnect the bridging staps between batteries and measure the voltage across each one to find which are ok
Hi Both Getting out that mooring temporary make the front rope as long as can. stop on the jetty end holding it, and pull the front around. Be careful not to drop rope in the water and get it around the prop. Steve
Pinch 1 off back of boat till out or middle rope till OK. Don't kick it water like I did once going in a marina on a windy day, hence saying be careful Steve

Hi Becca, Chris, so nice to see you cruising. Before you left, I felt Chris' fear with wasps, but Becca was so super kool as always, and manged the Wasp situation perfectly. Pulling out of your home marina, even though the waters looked calm, the boat was dragged along by an under water current caused by a filtration plant, who would have thought? But you got through this challenge with flying colours. Becca, was great with her calm approach to the situation. Chris did an amazing job helping getting the boat back on course with his actions. What an amazing team Becca and Chris are. Loved the cruise out to the island, and I was very pleased for you both, that there was no water in the boat by the bow thruster. Liking your battery checking, again Becca explained all the tech of what they were doing. Is there anything Becca does not know about? The editing of this Vlog was excellent, as it always is. Loving the Dramatic music and audio effects. The camera work requires praising too, it's not just point the camera and shoot. A lot of thought goes into your videos, with close ups, angle etc, you both look so good on camera, as well as being so confident talking to camera (without a script). Your Vlogs a joy to watch. Thank you. Take Care.
Everyone needs a Becca, bless her...we need some sanity on the boat. no the water situation is looking great so it must be condensation, a lovely cruise though I need to stop stressing and start taking in the adventure. Thank you so much for all your compliments, we cant thank you enough for being part of our journey :)
Hey Chris! ..... You need to do a bit of that Ol' standing on one leg with your eyes closed - humming Ooooohhhhmmmmm 😊😉 .... When you leave the marina, couldn't you just pull forward and then Reverse! out of the place?? .... Or is the boat too long? 🤨
I really do...a bit of chill time, I believe the boat is to long, by what we have been told by people on the marina this is the way to do it, if the turbine wasn't on Im sure we would have been fine, thanks Pete

Change your lights to Led anything else will draw lots of battery … Replace the whole bank of leisure’s batteries not just one of is best practice… If diesel goes into the canal put a squeeze of washing up liquid in too - we use ecover … its eco friendly Oh when you leave your mooring get them to turn the thingy off can’t remember what it is called 😂
so many people have said to change the lights to LED, it must make a big difference, yes by what iv read id like to change them all , does that mean the starter too or can that be different ? thanks for all your tips , that bliming turbine
@@TheNomadicCrobot your starter is good I think it was 13 something .. look at how old it is .. if it’s plus 4 yes then I would probably replace. We had Halogen lights and 40 lights which came on as banks of 3 .. they took 2amps each so a bank was using 6amps .. so two banks was 12amps .. the TV only uses around 5. We had 40 bulbs … changed them all to Led … Having all 40 on !!! Used less than 10 amps whereas 6 Halogens used 12amps Massive difference !
At 10v your batters are dead and needs replacing .The house bank go with lithium , lead acid for starter battery witch seems ok when you tested,a B to B charger to charge the house bank from starter battery and as much solar as you can get on the roof.Generator for emergency use only all the best and good look.🥰
yes I feel we need a whole new set in there, and before doing so maybe make sure that everything else is running right as we dont want the same happening to the next lot, solar is a thing we have always wanted thanks Mark
Solar is the gift that keeps giving when properly done no need to run the engine for months on end look at a decent batteey set up whether sole lithium or lythium hybrid with the correct gear and you will be laughing buy once cry once for a quality product check iut Roamer batteries lithium with a 10 year warranty many other brands out there though Solar keeps the fridge lights and tv going all year round quite happily with just an occasional wipe of the panels much nicer than running a genny upsetting the peace lol 🤣😂😂😂
I would love to have a proper set up on board, lithium seams to be the way to go but may be out of our price range, generators are noisy but im just trying to get things going, weve been at marina for far to long now
Wasp Man vs Spiderman, who would of thought. I think I might set up a Burger/Hot Dog Stand near the Turbine, you'll have to let me know in advance when you are moving, what a crowd puller, this time next year I could be a Millionaire.😂
At last you’re on the water, Chris cool it you’ll give yourself a nervous breakdown. I’m a worrier so I kinda understand but I’m not that bad, maybe a bit of exaggeration there for dramatic effect, oh god I hope so. yayyy we got on the water for once, a mini cruse that has ended in a pretty big disaster, hopefully it hasn't put us off. there is plenty of dramatic music in the next episode for you Pauline . you would think so but its a small marina they actually want to move us even further in which is annoying as we want to use the boat a lot more, take care

1st thing I noticed do not turn off the engine in Locks. If its running and Batteries are "iffy" the engine may not start when you need it to leave the lock.
@@TheNomadicCrobot in EA locks you are meant to turn the engine off. Your starter battery for your engine *should* be completely separate to your leisure setup
You two are so cute! Well done 👏🏻 such lovely cruising footage(apart from the preview ofc 😬 hope you are okay!) Sorry about the batteries! Honestly, if we were you I’d spend the money you’d spend on a decent generator on a good solar setup. Ours was only about £800 and it’s been worth it’s weight in gold, probably paid for itself by now! Are you going to crick? Pls say you are! We are dying to meet the captain, Titan! 😏
Thanks, were not really used to shooting cruising footage so its all pretty new to us, woaw 800...that seams very cheap was that just for the batteries?? were about did you shop...if I keep doing this our boat will pretty much be a clone of yours haha, we were hoping to do Crick though not fully sure Bex is away at the moment, it is something we would love to do, and bringing the `Titan on a lead would be priceless though a bit creepy , take care guys
Amazing how much moisture a narrow boat generates. Agree with others spend what you have on solar even if you have to add to it over time. If you are cruising alternators and solar panels will give you what you need even in winter (when you can lay up if needed) Thanks for the Vlog
Great cruise to try out your batteries. I think you have your answer that you need to get them sorted 😃. Looks a bit like next week’s episode is going to be a good one. Take care. Nick

TOPDON battery testers are worth buying. Not only do you get percentage charged but you also a percentage of life left in the battery. Worth buying rather than ditching off all your batteries if only ones knackered.
A wasp with teeth that's very funny 😅😅.and next time you leave the mooring tie the rope to the cleat on the pontoon to you make the turn then untie it 👌
Take the batteries out and take them to a local garage or halfords / kwikfit and ask them if they could test them and you should be able to find out if 1,2 or all 3 batteries are junk
As you mentioned on a previous video that old transit engine is a noisy fugger. I fitted one of those in an old 1970s Land Rover, yes they are noisy but they are bullet proof and do star ship mileage provided you do oil changes. When you have done your other repairs please do get someone to change the cam belt, it’s an easy job on those 2.5di lumps providing you have access to “front” of engine. Enjoyable video guys keep up the good work.
Thanks for the advice, the belt was changed just as we purchased the boat, it is noisy but seams very reliable, maybe something to dampen the sound would be good
Guys. I think you are gonna need new batteries, (preferably lithium) lots of solar (1kw plus) and a generator, (ideally built in diesel one). Oh and a fridge freezer. Yes, narrow boating can be stressful, not your fault with that stupid weir thing and the tight corner.!
I think your may be right, lithium seams to be the way to go though very pricy, the plan was always to get a nice solar setup. This life comes with its struggles..im just hoping we can start enjoying it properly soon
Great to see you out cruising guys. Chris and the wasp 😂😂😂😂 I could be wrong, but all of your batteries are connected, so 2 could be completely dead and never getting any charge and you're just getting a reading from 1 good one. I need new batteries for the camper 😢 Scared to watch the next episode after that sneak peek. 😳 🫣

Hi ya check out bedazzled got some great led lights from them they use a lot less power. When we were cruising the canals all we had was a diesel generator it worked out fine. The only time we had shoreline power was in Wales after the pontcysyllte aquaduct. 😊
I need to start looking into LEDs everyone is telling me know, they must make such a huge difference.oh woaw amazing we cant wait to get down that way Tina
I have both 400w solar and 2,500w generator, in summer I broke down for 21days and fridge, broadband was on 24/7, we used tv 4 hours a An evening and 1 hour in morning, my batteries of 480ah went from 100%-45%, My generator has been used once when my Webasto broke and I ran a 2kw electric heater. In future I’ll use generator to run my 1300w washing machine, although inverter should be fine while cruising. I would say Solar is rubbish from November to March, but in summer it can virtually run. Boat
Great video so happy to see y’all out on the water getting a break. I know you talk about the leak issue but didn’t the front cover help cover an area when it rains that you thought was leaking? So happy you’re dry now. The front of the boat almost looks like a face looking at us at times. May I ask what lives in the triangle box at the canal side stop? The next episode looks a bit scary for everyone involved but know it will be ok . Susan
Thanks for your lovely comment, it was great to finally be out though it did come with its problems, the front cover helped as there is a leak on the bow area, but since having the cover water has still managed to get in somehow, haha we always laughed about how the boat had a face.i believe a troll may live in the box?? in all honestly I think Bex said owls?? take care Susan have lovely week
Good to hear you had rain and all was good afterwards. Its astounding how much water there was, but if the previous owner never solved teh the problem over all the years he had the boat its understandable. Wasps with teeth?
Thanks it probably looked worse than it is, a bit of damage but nothing that cant be fixed, the fact that these things always happen near a packed pub on a sunny day never help
13.8V seems a reasonably good output for an alternator running at low rev's. I would make sure that you do not have any other connections to your starter battery as you don't want to be discharging that at any time other than starting the engine. i would run the engine to charge the batteries and then remove the ground (neg) lead from each battery to see how they discharge individually (car headlamp bulbs make a nice test load)? but they seem to be shot from the short time you were running on them. Remember that if they are 110Ahr, and you have 3 in parallel that should give you 330Ahr or a bit less. So that's 330A's for an hour or 5A's for 66hr's even at 10A's 33hr's from a fully charged set. but they are never going to give the full rating as that's just what they are expected to give under the best conditions possible, something you will never have in real life. Can't wait to see the bridge blocking next episode. 🙂 "Carry on cruising" or "Carry on up the canal", could be 70's film titles. I can see a Leslie Phillips and Barbara Windsor here. ;-)
no it seams the starter batters is separate, I think a separate test for each battery is the way to go, my guess is they will all need replacing, thanks for all the kind tips im trying to take it all in, yes the bridge blocking was an absolute disaster haha
So the 10 ish volt reading on the leisure bats at the island suggests they aren't taking a charge. Another commenter pointed out that the battery acid was low in those batteries, so that may be all they need. Chris re generators. You can obviously go that way but they are noisy. When you cruise most days your leisure bats should be fully charged (plus whatever solar adds). So the question is do they hold enough energy for what you need of an evening. It's possible to measure how much you use but first get the bats working.
yes Becca has warned me of the troubles of a generator but I do like the idea of testing it just to get going and then getting solar when we realise were sick of the generator. thanks for all the handy tips there so much to take it, thanks Robin
Lead acid batteries don’t have a particularly long lifespan anyway (about 5 years or less if you’re heavily discharging them) my guess is that they’ve had a good hammering & aren’t up to holding any real power. I could show you how any amp hours they are providing with a charger hooked up to a laptop. A solar set-up with LifePO4 battery bank is 💯% the way to go. One of them “silent” generators is useful as a back up but I wouldn’t rely on it to provide power for sustained periods. Once you’ve invested & installed it just gives back to you every single day 😉
yes we have been told that so there probably quite close to the end of there life anyway, thanks so much for the advise, I believe a good set up will pay off in the long run, im just eager to get going
@@TheNomadicCrobot I'm not gonna lie it is quite an expense & a lot to get your noggins around but it'll be well worth while in the long run & I'll help guide you through it whenever you need me to.
Sharp teeth 😀 sting more like ! ! Free advice coming up both. Gerry can know how many litres you put in it. Dip boat tank mark level on dip stick. Pour Gerry can in . Re dip tank mark dip stick with new level. Then increment the stick with same distance marks on amount of fuel below and above tank height. Find out how much fuel the engine burns in an hour then you know how much then you got a ruff idea how long your fuel will last you cruising. Hope you are well both Take care cruising.
With the turbine running, would it have been better to be on the bow with a stick pushing or would that not have made a difference? You guys make me laugh though ... glad your departure didnt result in damage :)
I love the stick theory, but it was pretty impossible with the turbine, if we didn't get it turned off I think we would have probably just stayed there stuck forever haha
I have a loose connection or maybe a stuffed fused box as "sometimes" the voltmeter on my campervan systems drops alarmingly. But check the battery it's a 'healthy' 13.3 volts. It's driving me nuts trying to find out what is happening. Of cause paifed to get it all checked and the dam thing worked perfectly.! Grr electrics!
We feel for you Glen, it can be a minefield, becoming an electrician was never part of the plan but were both learning a lot very slowly, good luck with your adventure, electronics prove to be very fiddly
Okay, about wasps. At this time of year, they are mostly vegetarian, and highly unlikely to eat your brain. However, SHE is probably looking for a good nesting place. Will she bite? Nope. But she can sting you 7 or 8 times and do it all again tomorrow. Wasps have the same defensive priorities as honey bees: Brood, food, and queen--in that order. They like warm places, and a narrowboat would probably have a few convenient locations to set up, so you want to prevent this any way you can. Now, if it were a bee--not a honey bee-- that would be just fine. Most are solitary, they are gentle, don't sting, and they might lay some eggs in a convenient crevace, but they are great little guests.
yes I could see the little bugger trying to find a place to build up his little home, I can only hope the spiders will have there uses and eat away at them before the eggs hatch thanks Peter
Always, always, have Dawn or Dreft or other dishwashing liquid on hand when you are handling diesel while on board - if u spill in the water, sprinkle it on top, you will thank me later!!!
I am with Chris when it comes to fear of wasps and spiders. I having been stung multiple times I destroy the nests as soon as they start. Bex calm, cool and collected and waving to the people at the pub. How long are you thinking it will be before going continuous cruising? Just wondering if it’s worth getting a temporary SLA battery or two now whilst you save for lithium which I’d imagine will make continuous cruising rather more comfortable. The SLAs would be fine for your mini cruises then hopefully in the mean time. If you’re adventurous I’ve notice some boating groups also helping people go hybrid too so I’d love to hear your thoughts on that.

I take my hat off to you guys for showing the good the bad and the ugly in your vlogs and still face every thing with a great smile and attitude banging video again 👌🤘🏻
its just the way it has been for us really im glad it comes across genuine as one of my main ideas with he channel was to show it from a very honest view point
I have to tell you guys that I love your videos. Seem like I know you both, keep going with all the adventures!!!! Just love yall!!
thank you Sharon, were slowly getting there.....I mean really slow at this point, but we will eventually make it out full time
Get your bow thruster working, exactly what you needed to avoid the pub humiliation!!
haha...at this stage were looking to get them welded up, they've been so problematic, though would love to get them up and running again
You are literally the perfect yin and yang couple....Beccas calm rational head to Chris's frantic crazy one! Honestly guys, I get such a laugh watching you do your own wonderfully nuts brand of vlogging. Do not EVER change!!
I've now watched every vlog so will have to wait a whole week for the next one. Its cruel. Make more!!! 🤪
Thanks so much for the lovely comment, I think we probably are yin and yang, it works most of the time, once things calm down a bit I think we will try to aim for 2-3 videos a week, but at the moment its quite tricky, thanks so much for the support it means a lot

Change your lights to Led anything else will draw lots of battery …
Replace the whole bank of leisure’s batteries not just one of is best practice…
If diesel goes into the canal put a squeeze of washing up liquid in too - we use ecover … its eco friendly
Oh when you leave your mooring get them to turn the thingy off can’t remember what it is called 😂
so many people have said to change the lights to LED, it must make a big difference, yes by what iv read id like to change them all , does that mean the starter too or can that be different ? thanks for all your tips , that bliming turbine
We had 40 bulbs … changed them all to Led …
Having all 40 on !!! Used less than 10 amps whereas 6 Halogens used 12amps
Massive difference !

Cruising Crobots, who would have thought? Terrific to see, plenty of excitement and drama, just what boating is all about. 23:08 😊
exactly, who said smooth sailing
Solar is the gift that keeps giving when properly done no need to run the engine for months on end look at a decent batteey set up whether sole lithium or lythium hybrid with the correct gear and you will be laughing buy once cry once for a quality product check iut Roamer batteries lithium with a 10 year warranty many other brands out there though
Solar keeps the fridge lights and tv going all year round quite happily with just an occasional wipe of the panels much nicer than running a genny upsetting the peace lol 🤣😂😂😂
I would love to have a proper set up on board, lithium seams to be the way to go but may be out of our price range, generators are noisy but im just trying to get things going, weve been at marina for far to long now

At last you’re on the water, Chris cool it you’ll give yourself a nervous breakdown. I’m a worrier so I kinda understand but I’m not that bad, maybe a bit of exaggeration there for dramatic effect, oh god I hope so. You’ve been at that marina long enough now surely you can wheel and deal with them and get away from that horrible turn to get out. OMG the next episode looks like a doozy, I wait with baited breath. Take care guys. 💕
yayyy we got on the water for once, a mini cruse that has ended in a pretty big disaster, hopefully it hasn't put us off. there is plenty of dramatic music in the next episode for you Pauline . you would think so but its a small marina they actually want to move us even further in which is annoying as we want to use the boat a lot more, take care
Chris your craxy bex seems to havevsai ts patience ... All good stuff . Dam batteries have you looked into the mobike power iacks ( on adzventures channel) you may even get a sponsership as a generator instead of solar will make you very unpopular ...... !!
Yes I have heard the generators could be be noisy, we definitely don't want to be annoying narrowboaters,oh thanks will take a look Into that
What a wonderful amazing couple you both are.

1st thing I noticed do not turn off the engine in Locks. If its running and Batteries are "iffy" the engine may not start when you need it to leave the lock.
thanks for clearing that up, we thought you were meant too
@@TheNomadicCrobot in EA locks you are meant to turn the engine off. Your starter battery for your engine *should* be completely separate to your leisure setup
Read all about it! Punk rocker survives attack from Killer Bee. Cheers from Bali.
exactly haha Hi from the UK Steve
You two are so cute! Well done 👏🏻 such lovely cruising footage(apart from the preview ofc 😬 hope you are okay!)
Sorry about the batteries!
Take care. Nick

all I can say is this mini cruise has been a nightmare...it actually couldn't get any worse the next day, but were still here to tell the a tale, thanks so much for the support
TOPDON battery testers are worth buying. Not only do you get percentage charged but you also a percentage of life left in the battery. Worth buying rather than ditching off all your batteries if only ones knackered.
that sounds like a very useful device thanks so much
A wasp with teeth that's very funny 😅😅.and next time you leave the mooring tie the rope to the cleat on the pontoon to you make the turn then untie it 👌
Terrifying 🤣

Take the batteries out and take them to a local garage or halfords / kwikfit and ask them if they could test them and you should be able to find out if 1,2 or all 3 batteries are junk
thats a great idea cheers David, I have a feeling there all done :(
Brilliant,,,,so good, Thank you
thanks Ian
As you mentioned on a previous video that old transit engine is a noisy fugger. I fitted one of those in an old 1970s Land Rover, yes they are noisy but they are bullet proof and do star ship mileage provided you do oil changes. When you have done your other repairs please do get someone to change the cam belt, it’s an easy job on those 2.5di lumps providing you have access to “front” of engine. Enjoyable video guys keep up the good work.
Thanks for the advice, the belt was changed just as we purchased the boat, it is noisy but seams very reliable, maybe something to dampen the sound would be good
Nice to see you finally out on the cut guys, hope you get the batteries sorted soon
Thanks Gary, a short trip that ended in tears haha

Should swap out all ceiling lights for LED, possibly uses 100 times less power. Batteries look duff or at least 1 of them
I have heard this a lot about LEDs, its surprising how much difference it must make, thanks so much
Good to hear you had rain and all was good afterwards. Its astounding how much water there was, but if the previous owner never solved teh the problem over all the years he had the boat its understandable. Wasps with teeth?
Yes our wasps actually have teeth 😬 😄 yes it's crazy how much water can build up in an area like that fi gers crossed we have it sorted now, thanks

finally, for a bit cheers Jeff
The water under the floor also would have been any rain leaking in through the front deck before you put the cratch cover on
quite possibly, though we have had it in there since having the cover too
Looks like you need better solar and batteries.

Will crashing into a bridge be more dramtic than a persistent wasp? 🤔 I can’t wait… Hope it’s not too damaging though.
Thanks it probably looked worse than it is, a bit of damage but nothing that cant be fixed, the fact that these things always happen near a packed pub on a sunny day never help
Becs building things from scrap puts her in same league as Eddie China
haha spot on
13.8V seems a reasonably good output for an alternator running at low rev's.
"Carry on cruising" or "Carry on up the canal", could be 70's film titles.
@@TheNomadicCrobot When I used to fly a bad landing was only a disaster if it was confirmed with a sketchley cleaners receipt. 🙂
Come to Milton Keynes pretty please
definitely we would love too Louise

Hope you are well both
Take care cruising.
oh yes im certain I saw a pair of nashers on this one haha thanks for the fuel tip that will prove very very handy, take care David
As I reiterate, get you bow thruster working. It’s probably just the wiring or a fuse.
your probably right Henry, we don't think its a massive problem, will prove very handy
