I didn’t look at comments and I paused to try n figure it out: I think look at it upside down as 001. remove 1 pencil from first 0 to make a C. Then remove bottom pencil of second 0. Put first removed pencil on 2nd 0 to make an A and your last remaining pencil across the 1 to make a T. 001 = CAT
1st & 2nd pencil make the letter "T" his moving pencil up to create the letter "A" was the third move.. This was done in 3 moves, not 2, & actually its vaguely impossible to spell the word "cat" in (2) moves!! 3 moves; yes. 2 moves, No 👎 !!! Cannot be 2 moves if they already had the letter T there for him. The letter T was 2 moves on its own. He made the third move by moving the pencil up to create the letter "A", get it????

Reverse your angle to get “Box Box and I”Remove 1 vertical line (pen) from the left box and put it horizontally on top of “I” which will make it T. The first box now becomes a C after removing one pen. Then in the middle box move the bottom pen to the middle but still in horizontal position, which will make the middle box letter “A”. Now you have CAT.

I have a solution I like better because the T's horizonal line touching the A looks extremely half-assed. 1) Look at the 100 vertically with the 1 at the bottom. 2) Take the top square's right pencil and have it touch the middle of the 1 from below at a right angle, forming a T. 3) Move the middle square's bottom pencil halfway up to form an A. Now you have CAT written vertically but looking tidy, not as if written by a 5 year old.
Move the single pencil over the make the “a”, move the outer pencil from the last 0 to make the “c”, then snap the one pencil you have left to make the “t”. Nailed it.
Go to the other side of the table so it says 0 0 1. You move the right side pencil of the 1st 0 and set it adjacent top of the one, forming the T. Then move the bottom pencil of the second 0 up midway forming the A.

Looking at it from a RTL perspective with regard to “100” is a common “trap” that I fell for too. It’s when you look at it from different angles (opposite side of the table) that the solution becomes easier. Great puzzle, thank you!
It's as simple as this...... 1: Move from the perspective where it seems to be 100 to exactly opposite of it so that it appears 001 2:From the 001 perspective, pick the vertical pencil on the right side of the first 0 and place it horizontally on top of the last number which is the single(1) pencil forming the word COT. 3: From the COT, push the horizontal pencil at the bottom of the Zero in the word COT upwards a bit such that the 0 will now become A forming the word CAT. It's as simple as that.
