    Amazon sells inexpensive black plastic caps that would cover the screw holes for a cleaner look

    • @TeachingRetro
      @TeachingRetro  2 года назад +2

      We thought of going that route, but where the graphics are red and yellow, the caps would really stand out. We wanted a more subdued, nothing to see here vibe.

      Thanks. Life got so busy. We tried a little over a year ago to start and it fizzled. Now we are going to attempt a re-boot. Only doing a new vid every other week. Thanks for the welcome back and it's nice to see your channel doing so well.

    Excellent mods, I enjoyed the specific button choices you made. Thanks for creating this reference material. I pulled the trigger and ordered this party cade last night. I've never modified any of my 3/4 scale 1up's but I'm thinking I might do some shopping for some buttons and joysticks to just have around if I ever decide to take the plunge.

    Very surprised how good your videos are. Subscribed. Thanks for the review of this cab. I can’t find it anywhere but really want one.

      Thanks! Since purchasing this cabinet, I've noticed it has become one of the holy grail pieces for Arcade1up. We still love and play it.

    Really love the work you two did. Thanks for the education. Gonna do my Defender Partycade like this.

    Just a tip for anyone replacing the buttons: If you use the Micro-Leaf switches from GroovyGameGear (They also carry the Zippyy joystick) you don't need to buy a new harness to wire the buttons easily. The stock quick-disconnects will fit perfectly onto the tabs for the Micro-Leafs.

    Just an FYI -- On the joystick you can remove the bracket plate from the new joystick ( as you are showing in the video ) and replace it with the bracket from the old joystick and use the old plate to install the new joystick instead of having to drill new pilot holes for the new bracket plate.

    • @TeachingRetro
      @TeachingRetro  2 года назад

      IF the brackets have the same bolt pattern, this would be possible. In the case of the joystick we used, they do not. The old bracket's holes don't match up with our new joystick's. I tried this at first and was surprised I wasn't able to switch the plates and had to resort to drilling.

    Excellent video (beautiful little princess you have!) but do you know anywhere that can ship those parts to Japan? I just bought and received the 1up defender you have in the video and wanted to upgrade it like you did but the shops you link to do not send to Japan.

    • @TeachingRetro
      @TeachingRetro  2 года назад +1

      While the shops I linked in the description don't ship to Japan, you are living in the Mecca of the arcade world. Both Sanwa and Seimitsu are made in Japan and offer arguably the best components made. While I'm not able to help you find a local shop, akishop.jp/ is a Japanese online store. They have a reputation for great products with long ship times to the U.S., but you might not have that problem being near them. I hope this helps.

    Awesome. What was he total cost of the upgrade?

    • @TeachingRetro
      @TeachingRetro  2 года назад +1

      Just below $35. That includes shipping costs. But don't forget, I had an extra joystick laying around, so I saved about $10. I'm pretty sure anyone could do these simple upgrades for under $50.

    The Rollie Leaf Switch seems to no longer be available for the buttons. Any recommendations on an alternative?

      GroovyGameGear has leaf switch options in stock. They are are great site to get your mods from.

    Every Countercade I have the control panels are ALWAYS extremely loose when I first get them, so yes you do need to tighten them up and then problem solved.

    This is a fantastic idea. I've had my Defender partycade since Xmas 2021 and love it, though frustrated with the less-than-responsive stock joystick and buttons. I'd love to give this mod a try. Paradise Arcade seems to be temporarily shut down. Will source the buttons from another supplier. I trust you are still pleased with your modification?

      8 months later and everything is still going great with the mods and we love the game

    Question: Regarding the Zippyy joystick, did you go with the long or the short version?
    Found leaf switches on eBay (which makes me a little nervous. Rollie doesn't seem to make them anymore.

    Just wondering did you notice a big difference with the new controls?

    • @TeachingRetro
      @TeachingRetro  2 года назад +2

      The joystick is much more precise and the fire button is not only more responsive, my fingers have less fatigue when constantly firing in Defender.

    Please be careful because when I tried to take the control panel apart to fix my Centipede Partycade's trackball, somehow the sound quit working. Avoid the Centipede Partycade at all costs!

      Great idea. Do the thumbsticks give a close resemblance to the original control?

      Very Smooth and responsive. Haven’t tried the original arcade version but it’s the only thing I use right now even though I have a Sanwa stick in the cab

      Thanks for watching and we appreciate the offer. Unfortunately, we just don't have time to do work on others' machines. But, I bet you can do yours just fine. Take your time and you'll see how easy a couple of these mods are.
