My review of the Nextool Mini Sailor Multitool ($17-30) ( s71.co/3z0P5hP ). This is the little brother of the Nextool Sailor Pro ( s71.co/3IbpV11 ), and the second keychain-sized multitool from Nextool after the Flagship Mini ( s71.co/3NSn6Wf ). It is a strong competitor to the classic Gerber Dime ( s71.co/3800Pn2 ) and the now overpriced Leatherman Squirt ( s71.co/3mJ6DFw ). Other super stars in this category include the Victorinox Rambler ( s71.co/3v7CjJk ) and Mini Champ ( s71.co/3kYxzk8 ). Also consider the Ruike S31 ( s71.co/3ox25o5 ) which has a Sandvik steel blade. More multitools and keychain items listed for your convenience below the video. Enjoy! :]
Just bought 2 of these for Christmas presents and I honestly was really really impressed by the fit and finish on these tools for 22$ a piece! I mean they look and feel amazing. The Pliers are even spring loaded which I did not expect at all. I do wish that the steel on the knife blade was a bit better. An 8cr or a 420hc would have been just as cheap probably. But this isn't meant to be a hard user. It's meant to be used for small things in a pinch and I think it will do a fine job at that. I got it for my Dad to throw in his bike pack so he can have it with him on the trail incase he needs to tighten something on his bike or maybe to help dress a wound or something if he falls. And my brother in-law has a fairly newly inquired home that he and his family live in and are doing lots of little fixes and thought it could be handy on a Keychain to tighten a face plate or a door handle here and there and for his work on computers. May have to get one for myself to throw in my survival bag.
One of the best review formats Ive seen on youtube, nonetheless Id like more materials on the scissors test, like seatbelt, duct-tape and somewhat thick cardboard.
I picked one of these up recently. For comparison, I already had the Nextool Flagship Mini, and a Gerber Vice. I like that the tools are non-locking, casual every day carry stuff has to be non-locking in the UK, so that's a plus for me. It has all the tools I'll need in a pinch. I wasn't sure about the SIM removal tool, but it's tiny, and isn't taking the place of another tool, and then my wife got herself a new phone, and then I realised it's about time I had an actual tool for that, rather then having to rummage around to find the the box it came in if I need it later. I like this one more than my Gerber Vice, which is just a little bit too small. I perhaps like it a little more than the Flagship Mini, but you do get sliighty better scissors on that, so it's a trade off. I am still looking for a mid sized multi tool, I like the SOG PowerPint, but that has a locking blade, so I really want something that size, with non locking tools, so anyone with any suggestions,... please chime in.
That's especially tricky for us in the UK, as are full sized multitools of which we're very limited in choice. The Juice was a good intermediate size mt but a bit pricey when it was still around (saw a C2 in a shop a couple of months back, he wanted £94 for it so no). The only mid size one I have that's UK legal is the SOG micro toolclip but those aren't easy to find now either and to be honest I wouldn't recommend it, it's only really got pliers and knife blade which are much good, the file is pretty useless on it...but the pliers are good for the size tool. I wish Victorinox made something like a Juice but with two alox handles with Vic tools in them, closing around a plier head. I think though that SOG tools are easy to remove or swap out so maybe look at doing that with the PowerPint?
Just worth noting that locking multitools are legal to carry with good reason i.e. you're a tradesman. Unfortunately that doesn't mean you can carry it on your day off, or down the pub in the evening! If you go to most UK campsites you'll find an awful lot of people using locking multitools, even though private campsites count as a 'public place' under the law. Many law-abiding people ignore the sillier nuances of the law because the practically zero chance of them being stopped for carrying. I suppose the worriers out there could remove the knife from the tool and carry a UK legal knife with it, but some of the stuff you do while camping is miles safer with a locking knife. UK and Euro knife law is a mess. And it's just a fact that, without gun ownership, blades become the primary form of defence/assault and are treated as such by the authorities. (Note, I'm not saying mass gun ownership is the answer, just that the law here is shaped by their relative absence.)
@@IveJustHadAPiss Not quite true, the thing about 'without gun ownership' the USA has guns, _and_ more stabbings per capita than the UK. So our laws work, for guns and knives, and keep us safe.
@engineeredlifeform does the uk border a third world country... the laws in will never be applicable for that reason alone and its something that European and Australian forget .also US's guns saved (over) 60,000 thousand lives last year so yea . In general your safer in the US than the UK especially from petty crimes .
Great review, Ty. I was in Cabella's today, all the multitools prices were up by at least $10 each (since two weeks ago when I was last there!). The Fed's ridiculous inflation makes the cheapest Leatherman about $69. The cost of this Nextool well worth the price.
They're going to blame it all on foreign leaders, I was shocked by the price of the squirt now. The powers that be are going to ride this economy like they stole it, because they did!
*I just got mine, the only flaw I can see is that lanyard/keychain hole function that you can pull out.* *If you put any material thru that hole (either paracord, or keychain) then you can no longer use the screwdriver in the locked open position.* *Am I missing something???*
I would love to see any company, especially Victorinox, design a tool on this size with a tiny wood saw and a tiny metal saw with file. You could use a wood saw of that size at least to make a try stick and cut 1 inch diameter branches and the metal saw could be used to cut a nail and improvise a fishing hook.
My favorite tool is the Victorinox Spirit X. I own a lot of tools, and this Victorinox is the best. I carry it in a sheath on my belt, with 210 grams, not too heavy. Much better choice as this mini tools, in my opinion.
Dear friends, NexTool always specialising in the development and production of creative multifunctional tools, I believe our mini sailor will not let you down, just get it, don't wait.

The knife doesn't lock..... If you are going to add a non locking knife, it should open in the opposite direction, so the other handle can prevent the knife from folding on to your hand.
I on the other hand would go with the Flagship Pro - a bit bulkier but it's scissors are awesome and plus the Phillips SD has longer reach. It's better in most ways than the LM Squirt, the only letdown being that the file can't function as a saw as the edge isn't profiled.
@@Wrath-vz4dp A good deal for 15 bucks I paid about £17 for mine which is over $20 but still I can't complain. There were quality issues reported on springs breaking sometimes straight out of the box but I think they fixed it (heat treat maybe?) and I have had no problems with mine.

Thank you for the pliers as tweezers footage! I mentioned it before that it’s very handy for me. I’ve pulled many an ear or nose hair with my pliers.
No problem, I take an ouch for the team!

The side surfaces of the flat screwdriver also must be a rasp. Other than that, it doesn't seem to have any flaws.

Welcome, thanks for making multitools!
With the way the scissors go back into the tool, have you ever cut your finger since the blades are exposed?
Just ordered with your link , thanks!
Excellent, I appreciate you!
I like this. Will buy soon
Excellent!
Not sure why one would buy a mini sailor when the flagship mini pro is nearly identical size but has massively better scissors.
10 dollars price difference between the 2.. that's why.
Thanks for Video Greets from Frankfurt 😁👍

They want it to have more clearance though, more usable edge length.
Not an issue if you use the knife for knife stuff. I only see it being a problem if you pry something or try to stab someone, I dunno.
What is better? Mini sailor or mini flagship?
It is close, but probably the Mini Sailor.
