We were so blessed 2 be a round 2 see series like wagon train laramie cheyenne the big valley maverick & many more all they got 2day is morbll phones & realty shows we were really lucky ❤🤠🐴🐎
These show's were worth putting aside an evening for. The whole family could watch, and there was a deffinate feeling of right and wrong back in the day. Often actual historical happenings were put into the stories. Yes, about the theme songs, marvelous works of music. Often think... Were they (the historic type TV western's) really as good as they seemed to be at the time? Would kids of today enjoy them? TV was still in it's childhood. When colour TV began, the scenery was so breathtaking!
Grew up watching this in reruns on Pat Robertson's CBN and later The Family Channel before it became FFC-Fox Family and now abc family Thank GOD for Classic TV Shows on DVD Out of all the Wagon Train Themes, I like this one THE Best, it was awesome and inspiring, it also told the story, the theme by the late Jerome Moross was AWESOME, the storylines were great and the cast of characters were strongly performed, of course, you can't have Wagon Train w/o the late Frank McGrath as everyone's favorite cook Charlie Wooster God Bless the cast and R.I.P. to Ward Bond, Frank McGrath, John McIntire, Terry Wilson and Scott Miller, plus Robert Horton is in his 90's and Robert Fuller is in his 80's and they are still goin' strong and they're both retired actors
John Jarou Thank You, this was also one of my father's favorite westerns, I use to watch Classic TV Westerns with my father growing up and now, thanks to DVD, I can cherish those moments for years to come God Bless You and God Bless My Father Carl Lee Hubbard, Sr. We Miss Ya Chief
Love the fact that Frank and Terry finally got the credit(s) they deserved!! At first they were waay at the bottom, then midway and finally got the full treatment when the series went color. Thank You!
My god it's in COLOUR!! I never saw this show in colour - never even knew it was in colour! @#**#! I used to love this show. It really has been too many years since a regular western has graced TV screens. Someone should get Elmore Leonard to come up with one!
The Western myth lived on early in my youth on Wednesday nights NBC; Ward Bond and later John McIntyre as the wagonmaster. Robert Horton as scout Flint McCullough one of the strongest actor/characters in the b&w series. Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Rawhide other major westerns of the 1960s, 1970s...
I learned from another posting that episodes this 63-64 season were 90 minutes long and it was the only season in color. In 64 the show reverted back to 60 minutes in B&W and was cancelled shortly thereafter. First time I ever heard of a show going from color back to black and white.
Jerome Moross wrote the main theme. He also wrote the wonderful theme to the movie The Big Country. (Give it a listen on RUclips.) Both themes give the sweeping feel of the Old West.
Wagon Train actually had THREE theme songs over the years. The first two only lasted one season each. They were both good, if not better than this one which ran the final six seasons. The 2nd season closer was a vocal "Roll along wagon train" over the credits, sung by Johnny O' Neill, who was also "Whistling Jack Smith" in the 1960's. "I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman" was a hit song for Whistling Jack in 1966.
+Bill Dudley It's Jerome Moross's theme that's remembered with Wagon Train. A protege and close friend of composer Bernard Herrmann, his compositions always had an "American" feel like his best known work, the score for the movie "The Big Country". A true unsung hero of American music.
Yes, that's the same Ronald Reagan, who a few years later would become the Governor of California (1967-1975), and from there go on to become the 40th President of the United States (1981-1989).

Pre-1970s TV (and movies), and some few more recent (I'm thinking about a pair of fraternal PI's here), are all the justification required for DVDs.
I hated my school in the late 50's/early 60's and these old western shows on TV in the evenings kept me sane..:)
Lovely memories golden days
Love the fact that Frank and Terry finally got the credit(s) they deserved!! At first they were waay at the bottom, then midway and finally got the full treatment when the series went color. Thank You!
Jerome Moross was a fabulous composer his music was superb. He composed The Big Country!!!!!
Great memories. Monday night wasn't the same without Wagon Train. Missed Ward Bond and Robert Horton though.
Family around the TV. Those were good days.
I don't think the kids today would appreciate what we had and what we enjoyed. Thanks for the comment.

Can t imagine a weekly show going 90 minutes..I learned something new about this series...
Jerome Moross wrote the main theme. He also wrote the wonderful theme to the movie The Big Country. (Give it a listen on RUclips.) Both themes give the sweeping feel of the Old West.
One of the prettiest TV theme songs I've ever heard.
What a great series this was, I loved it. Great to see some were in color!
I wish so much wish that these westerns were still televised.
Reba Flynn on MeTV!
GRIT tv
Ann Blyth, I remember when she used to do commercials for Hostess.
No idea who that Ronald Reagan guy was...
Yeh right he was one of the greatest modern day presidents of all time !!!!!
You can hear the similarity between this and Moross's "The Big Country." Just great music. This is the series and theme I remember as a child.
A fabulous T. V. western that ranks no 4 behind Gunsmoke, Bonanza and the Big Valley and the Rifleman would be no 5 !!!!!
Don't forget The Virginian, that would be no. 6 and that show was sensational!!!!!
Jerome Moross originally used this theme for the 1959 film THE JAYHAWKERS.
