Sand shrimp is by far the best summer run bait!! Hook mine a little different than Jordan, but this bait catches fish all summer long. I run the hook from underneath so the hook point comes out were the mouth would be, then two half hitches around the lower tail. First one around were the body and tail come together then just under the tail fan. When its hangs it lays straight and looks great in the water. Great eps. Jordan
Loving the content. Just moved 5 minutes from haapa ramp. Don’t know anything about how to fish, but super excited to get out and figure it out and start enjoying this awesome resource.
Sandshrimp are my favorite steelhead bait. I mostly drift fish with just the tail I run the hook through the scoots with the egg loop over the last ridge on the tail so it lays flat. Also with a corkey
About 6 yrs ago 5 of us friends fish a hole all day using everything!! Some guy walks up with a sand shrimp rig up. His first cast he nails a Nice hatch King. I hollard " that's how you do it!!" And Ya good times!! You guys rock!!
Not to steel your thunder but I just got off Yale with my brother. Started at 11am and were off with our limits at 3:30. Small piece of worm and galic corn. Pink wedding rings, 4 oz of lead trolling 70 to 90 feet back.
Jordan, I build rods and I always favored a little longer rod blank (10 footer)for drift fishing, because I like an extra long handle behind the reel seat for comfort and less fatigue, so with the extra long handle the actual "working part" of the rod is in the 9 to 9-1/2 foot category you're talking about.
Jordan, also in reference to what I just said about the rod length (I like) I always had trouble setting a 1ought hook. At the time (1989) I realized that one reason I was having such trouble setting the hook was because of my stretchy monofilament line (usually Maxima Ultragreen in ten or 8 lb test). So I went down in hook size, 1s, 2s, 4s, but the most effective hook and hook size I found for hooking steelhead and salmon was my old standby back in the U.P. of Michigan which was a #8 Lazer Sharp Eagle Claw wide bend hook. The wide bend hook in that size was equivalent to a #4 Mustad and similar to a "circle " hook in design. My catch rate went up. Of course I was using lighter line compared to the modern braids you guys use. The reel I was using was a Quantum QD 1310L which I installed a "knucklebuster" switch on (from the QD1400 series models). I also used a Shimano reel (that came with the knucklebuster --direct drive --switch); however it along with a home built rod it was on was stolen out of my vehicle and the Shimanos were no longer available with that feature.
Something I’ve always wondered about the gear you guys use... why okuma rods? You’ve got lamiglas and g loomis making the best rods in the world right in your backyard. Why not support local?
We love our Okuma rods!!! They’ve been an amazing sponsor, they listen to our feedback and are always willing to create fisheries specific rods. Lifetime warranties, durable, great quality, we love them! Nothing against the other brands, we just have a great relationship with Okuma.
G Loomis is no longer "G. Loomis." Gary sold to Shimano. Now makes blanks only that he sells to custom rod makers. His company is in pacific northwest.
Mark Oberlatz I think his company is called Edge rods, I saw them at the sportsman show. Most “G Loomis” rods are still made in Washington though, and they don’t use shimano blanks.
I don't use weight when I drift fish I use old clothes hanger the long wire about 10 in Long 12 in Long it seems like it makes a sound when it bounces off the rocks I think that's why I get more bites and less snags
I love your channel and look forward to all the new videos! I would really appreciate if you guys could recommend a few rods for salmon that won't break the bank. I will be up in NY for the salmon run this year and would love your opinion if you wouldn't mind. Looking for the 9-10ft length and can handle float drifting and bottom bouncing since I can only get 1 rod. Thanks in advance!
Is this bait effective on the East coast lakeTributaries/Rivers? Not sure if anyone watching has ever used this type of bait on the East Coast. Thanks.
mending the line is using the tip of your rod to remove any slack in the line by lifting the line off the water and placing the line back down on the surface of the water in such a way that if a strike happens you can set the hook quickly. When using a bobber on any body of water you will see the line begin to move differently from the water (hence why high vis line is great) and it will start to form bow's (called belly's) between you and the bobber. These bellys make it impossible to set the hook when you get a strike if they are too big because there is too much slack between you and the bobber.
mending the line could also be called re-positioning. basically picking the line up off the water and re-positioning it so the water is pulling your float/drift-setup rather than the line itself. you'll see him do it as the current starts to pull a u-shape in his line on the water. that means it's pulling more on the line rather than his float, so he lifts the line up off the water and reels in some slack so he can still get a good hook set. same in reverse is it starts to go downstream from his position, but he'll release line in a controlled manner rather than reeling in to keep just enough slack for natural presentation, but not too much so he's still in position for a good hook set.
Do us a huge solid and smash that thumbs up please everyone!! 🤘🎣🙌
The wild Jordan back in his natural habitat, fishing for steelhead and doing tutorials, love it!
I just started plunking with sand shrimp this year! Been killing the Chinook!

Caught my first Brown trout in the Kern river because I watched your video on the trout magnet. Thanks for the videos
Bait diver and sand shrimp are my most deadly attack on any salmon and steelhead hands down

Looking for sand shrimp try the Ace Hardware at Woodland if your going that way. They were fully stocked with all baits.
Good tutorial but you know Jordan has a rod rigged up with a spinner in the boat somewhere.
You guys are always so detail oriented, and consistent with these high quality gems. I just wish I could get some of those baits up here!

The Marlin plug was done well. Good editing. All your videos kickass
My favorite bait shrimp year round
I caught my biggest cutthroat my first time drift fishing for steelhead it really is fun.

Gary Loomis' company is North Forks Composite Blanks. It is located in Washington. North Forks Custom rods uses his blanks.
And Edge rods/North Fork Composites is almost next door to G. Loomis and across the street from Lamiglas
If I were to use a jig with a clot set up I don’t want anything dragging correct? Just want the jig low enough to be in the strike zone?
Cant wait for the new apperal and gear to drop
I seem to eat all the shrimp before I even get a line wet. And suggestions
Solid tutorial!
Get you guys are crazy with these videos. Who is the one that has to edit all that filming you guys are doing?
Learning a lot from you guys 👍
Awesome thanks!

Jordan, how'd it taste?
So, I also liked using sand shrimp.
Does anyone know if a 2500 size Shimano spinning reel with 20lb braid would work for steelhead?
New MERCH!

I feel if I go fishing with you I’m sure I would catch an actually trophy fish instead of the small guppies I catch

Eat it!
