I was wondering when do you encounter Dimish' music? ;)
I've only seen a couple of performance, his almost otherworldly. His range is amazing... I doubt there are too many singers out there with similar vocal capabilities. He is truly gifted.
He is originally from Kazakhstan, also fluent in Russian. And he is extremely popular in China!

Then you should listen to pentatonix (acapella group that usually does covers of top songs on charts and they also have their own songs, mostly christmas ones. they have 5 members, one does the bass, one is beatboxer and 3 vocals). i cannot put into words how amazing they are. try listening to their cover of hallelujah, bohemian rhapsody, daft punk, aha singapore (live), evolution of music.... there is so much. Also another artist with great vocal ability - Diana Ankudinova, her cover of wicked game and rechenka. then group of little boys with amazing vocals called TNT boys. then tis young lady So Hyang- arirang alone (ruclips.net/video/zFyndK9VOCk/видео.html). and last but not least vocal queens, group from Britain called Little mix and one from South Korea called Mamamoo. both of these groups have amazing vocals which are bets seen in their live performances. for little mix try listening their cover of harry styles song falling (ruclips.net/video/9bFgElOE9s0/видео.html) and for mamamoo- delilah (ruclips.net/video/YJfC23ZZjNw/видео.html) just so that you can get the general picture of how good they are. and sorry for writting and grammar mistakes.

Nice to meet you Tommy. Would you believe me if I told you that you haven't seen anything yet? You will just have to trust me on this. Dimash is hands down the best singer of our time. You will lose all reservations toward that statement soon. The more you see, the more your mind is blown.
Clearly you see his phenomenal control .... In this song he hit a comfortable E6 but he can go higher. His range is incredible. But more impressive than that is how comfortable and a ease he is in all registers. Also, all of the registers sound equally strong and equally good. You saw he has a beautiful tone to his voice. Technically he is pretty much perfect. But see, this song alone can't show all of Dimash's talents. No song can I don't think.
Probably his best talent is that he's a story teller, a dream weaver, a soul singer. What I mean is that he takes the song into his heart and fully feels it. Then he is able to sing those feelings to where you feel it deep into your heart. Its like he's singing to just you...telling you a very personal story. And he can do this crossing all barriers of age, ethnicity, culture, or language. You don't have to know the language he is singing in to feel his music. And that's fortunate because he has sung in over 12 languages. He is very passionate when he sings and we feel it. And he is very versatile. He sings a multitude of genre's and styles. Just when you think youve seen everything from him you haven't. And he's not done.... at 26 years old he has his whole career a head of him yet.
This song is from 2018 from a singing concert/contest weekend called New Wave in Sochi Russia. Dimash is from Kazakhstan. He had some fans in the audience but most of the audience didn't know him. He was 24 years old in this performance. This particular performance was part of a special concert thrown for the band members on the stage. The band is called Studio A and they have done a lot of pop songs over the last 30 years. So to celebrate their 30 year's of creativity, a concert was thrown in their honor where various artists would come on stage and perform the vocals for one of their songs. Every song that night was very much in the pop genre. When Dimash came out, it was completely different than anything else anyone had done. It was mindblowingly epic...as you saw. He had completely changed the song to fit his voice and his interpretation.
Dimash first became known in the wider world in 2017 a year and a half before. He was 22 when he debuted on a Chinese singing show called "The Singer" where he sang an obscure song called SOS. How he got onto that show is interesting but a story for some other time. But just so you understand, it's a show for established well known singers in China and Dimash was completely unknown, he wasn't Chinese, and he didn't even speak the language. He did so well the first episode singing the song SOS that overnight he became a huge sensation in China. SOS got 600 Million views and he could no longer leave the studio or go anywhere on his own. He had to have body guards with him.
He spent a hugely successful year in China 2017 (I won't go into details as this comment is way too long already). While still performing in China, he began to reach out toward the Russian audience. He met a legendary producer/composer of Russia at a party for a watch maker (Jacob & Co.) where Dimash had performed. This man was named Igor Krutoy. He's the bald fellow giving Dimash a standing ovation at minute 6:32 ov your video. Igor had invited Dimash to perform at this New Wave event while at that party where they met. New Wave is Igor Kruoys contest that he puts on yearly.
After this weekend, Igor Krutoy invited Dimash to come to his house the very next week and pick out music he would like to sing. Dimash picked a song called Love of Tired Swans and these two have been good friends ever since. Dimash isn't signed with Krutoy. Instead they have a gentleman's agreement and they work together frequently. So, you keep reacting to Dimash, then you will see Igor Krutoy quite often. And the music they do together is fantastic. However, Dimash is so multifaceted that he works with many other producers and composers as well around the world.
Anyhow.... you asked for the backstory of this performance so I gave it to you. Probably too much info but I'm always guilty of that. So forgive me.
I put my vote in for you to do SOS next. Pick either the one from the 2017 "The Singer" or the one that I deem as perfect from 2018 Slavic Bazaar. Either one, you can't go wrong. Really, pretty much any song you do of his offers some new talent some new facet that you haven't seen before. So you can never go wrong with Dimash.

There is none better than Dimash... Go to his youtube and explore. He has been training since he was 5.. he sings it all . Opera, pop, rock, contemporary, traditional folk, rap.. he also sings in 12 languages and plays several instrument.. speaks several language, composes, produces, . But most of all he is humble and gracious.. donates time and money to many causes and loves his family...

Oh yes- you definitely have to watch more Dimash! Would highly recommend his cover of the French song "SOS"- his performance on the Chinese TV show "Singer" back in 2017 catapulted him to stardom in China. But he has some other incredible versions, including from the Slavic Bazaar in 2018 and an acapella version this year for the Tokyo Jazz Festival (both are on his channel). Hey you have seen nothing yet that was less than 10% of what Dimash can do . He knows every technic in the book and more and performs them with passion, stage presence, control with perfection. Genetics is a funny thing and 20+ years of 3 hours a day you end up with a vocalist called Dimash. So many songs to choose from they are all good and all different with beautiful tones and techniques ... you have 3 years of catching up to do even Wikipedia has a hard time keeping up with all his accolades :) Be ready for chills tears and mind blowing acrobatics. a Vocal Genius :)

He’s 26 years old, born May 24, 1994. He’s 6 ft 3 inc tall. Has voice of an angel with 7 octaves. I’m initially a Dear last year and then I stumbled upon BTS this year and now officially an Army. Many Dimash fans do not know that he submitted a song to MTV youtube channel's Friday livestream a few weeks ago that has been voted by viewers to #2 three weeks in a row. Fans can help him get to #1 by tuning into that livestream when it plays in our own time zones (5-8pm New York time, Fridays only) and type REQUEST DIMASH in the chat next to the video as many times as possible. Twitter and Instagram users can vote for Dimash during the week by following the format described in a short youtube video "Wanna See Dimash on MTV livestream." Facebook has a "Dimash MTV Voting Ultimate Guide." American music lovers and other westerners deserve to be introduced to Dimash and have the same experiences we are having!

SOS from 'I am Singer' back in 2017 - that's the 'just-for-starters' Dimash song that launched him onto an unprepared world (nobody is ever prepared for what Dimash does, with each new song!) - and sent him directly into the realm of superstardom. I see there are plenty of Dears here before me :) who have educated you on this once-in-a-century talent.

They have a yearly song festival called "New Wave" . He participated as a guest. He has a 6 octave range and sings in 12 languages. The male singer with the widest vocal range in recorded history. 6.5 octaves, from A2 - D8. Officially. But he’ll sometimes slip in a zinger of a not beyond that makes your eyes pop!! He has a true soprano range and can sing in just about any genre. From pop to opera. There is no other voice like his. He doesn’t have to use falsetto because of that. 95 % of the time he’s singing in true female range. You can’t even compare him to anyone else. Marcelito Pomoy is sweet, but he is a gimmick, with the same couple of songs for almost 20 years. No change. Pleasant, but a very limited talent.
Dimash is a vocal chameleon - dropping or jumping two, three octaves at a time, changing tone, changing registers, the power, melismas and sustained, the colors he can put into one sentence are breathtaking. Yes the Dimash effect, speechless, goose bumps, stunned, shocked and absolute joy. You have finally done the best in the world. To add to it, he is so so humble and appreciative, never taking credit for his talents but thanking God, his grandparents, parents, teachers and fans. There are subtitles to his music in most cases. He sings in many languages, native Kazakh, Russian, Ukrainian, Italian, English, Mandarin, Turkish etc . This was at a yearly show in Russia called New Wave. It was in 2018. He recently did a song for a Sci Fy movie called Endless Dimensions. It is incredible and in English. He also did a killer cover of Lionel Richie's, Hello, as My Heart will Go On from the movie Titanic. There is no end to the list of songs you will be asked to do and you will not be disappointed in any of them. He also has an official You Tube channel where you can see his latest, concerts including the one on Dec 10, last year at a sold out Barclays Center in New York.

Oh dude, you started with Sinful Passion..... I started laughing as soon as I heard it was your first listen. Most people start with SOS, which is also mind-blowing but a couple of years older so more geared towards his high register and without the (to us) exotic Central Asian techniques. This is almost too much to take in at once. When you listen again, note the 25 seconds of runs at the end. Who else has the breath control to do that?? Congratulations on getting Dimashified, your life will never be the same. Additional information to what others have said: Dimash's mom Sveta is an opera star in Kazakhstan (his soprano voice is definitely hers!), his dad Kanat is also a singer and music producer, and I believe his grandparents were also singers. He has said that he knew he wanted to sing before he turned two years old. His parents started him in opera training at age 5, when he told them a piano was out of tune and they discovered he has absolute pitch. In addition to all his other extraordinary gifts, his voice just.....never broke as a teen, so he retained his angelic boy soprano even as he began to develop his lower registers, a process that is still continuing. It's too incredible for fiction so it can only be real life. He was offered a position in the Astana opera but decided to strike out on his own, creating his own mix of opera, pop and traditional Kazakh music. And we are so happy about that! Beyond his unbelievable range, musicianship and passion, there's the fact that Dimash is a genuinely humble and generous human being. After his New York concert in December 2019 he had every single musician, dancer and backup singer come forward to do a riff and be recognized by the audience. He is an exceptional human as well as the best voice on the planet, and this is why us Dears love him.

Hello, I’m from Brazil! The story behind this song is very interesting: The band that accompanies Dimash is the same one that composed the song, without the singer who died after a heart attack! The band is also from Kazakhstan and this performance by Dimash revitalized the song. In addition, the final part he added, with an oriental technique. The song was originally performed in 1998 and the band's name is A'Studio (Russian-based Kazakhstani pop music group, "Alma-Ata Studio", city of Almaty). The dead singer left the band in 2000 and passed away in 2015 and his name was Batyrkhan Shukenov. Qairan Elim (from his channel) is one of his most recent releases-he co-directed it and sings-it doesn't have the same kind of fireworks if you are just looking for high and low range, but it is intense. It expresses his soul in terms of passion for his homeland, its difficult past, and by extension the whole world in this time of CoVid and stress. It is a very intense and symbolic video production. The narrator's voice in the beginning is not translated, but there are English subtitles for what he sings, and you need to see them.
Ascolta la Voce (Vocalise)- a song sung without words, almost improvised and somewhat like scat singing. It shows off the musical talent he has, the feeling he has for rhythm, tone, harmony…I don't know the words to use, but his musical ability is more than just his voice.
Olimpico is purely opera tone with an amazing range. The piece was written for him by Igor Krutoy, a very famous Russian composer. It is a stirring recognition and encouragement for those who strive for excellence (which fits with the Olympics theme.)

He is from Kazakhstan and is now 26 (2020). Dimash has been formally training and performing for over 21 years. At the age of 5 years old it was determined he had perfect pitch. Dimash is referred to as the Best Singer in the World. Dimash known for his exceptionally wide countertenor vocal range. It is recorded that he has a range higher than Six (6) Octaves and continues to improve his ranges and techniques. Dimash is a phenomenal Vocal Storyteller.
Dimash calls his style an "Innovation" [Neo-Classicism] in the Classical Crossover Genre. Dimash combines many Styles such as Classical (Opera), Contemporary (Modern, Pop, R&B, Jazz, Rap), Estrada and traditional Kazakh folk music. Dimash is multi-talented, Singer [12 languages], Multi-instrumentalist [7 instruments], Composer and Performer. It's so fun for us "Dears" (that’s what Dimash calls his fans because he loves us as a dear family) to see how people react to him.
Some info about Dimash. He is from Kazakhstan and has been music schooled sense 5 years old and told the teacher that the piano was out of tune! He sings about 6-7 octaves or so! No one knows he is still learning. He sings higher than the piano can go! He also writs and compose own songs, plays bunch of instruments including Dombra there own Kazakh instrument that has a sound you can’t believe! He also sings in about 12 languages and speaks 4 so far. He is born in 1994.
Dimash has an excellent education: he graduated from the College of Music with a degree in Opera Singing, university of arts in the specialty "Estrada and jazz vocals", and on June 18, 2020, he completed a master's degree in Composition. He graduated with a degree in opera from the music school at the University of Aktobe (2014), a degree in pop/jazz from the National Arts University in Nur Sultan (2018), just completed his Master's degree in composition (June 2020) and approved to start his PhD.
He have done some contests in his life but the one I think got the worlds intension is "The Singer" from China in 2017. The Singer is a program for established Chinese singers to face off against each other invites only in a competition where votes were cast by an audience of 500.
Dimash Kudaibergen was a last-minute inclusion (a 'dark horse'). But his performance of 'SOS D'un Terrien En Detresse' electrified the audience, his fellow competitors and the viewers who numbered in the billions (this program was one of the most-watched in China and outside).
They also got him the nickname "Imported little brother" the day after the show. They also had to get bodyguard for Dimash do to the famous over night both in China and also the world. Dimash wasn’t really prepared for that. He had come to China at 22 years young man by him self and didn’t know the language. They hade contracted him for 2 shows because they didn’t think he cold go father than that. He didn’t think they would like him. So he was nervous this performers that he had also to start the show with. But they hade to change that fast do to hi famous over night! Dimash got many new friends from this show and he said at some point he learned a lot from it to.

Gloria Wu's channel has the back-story about the song that is so sad and from a life story about a boy losing his parents in an awful way. Also you get to hear how Dimash sounds like then loosing his voice the day of the show!!! When he went on he didn’t know if he could sing. Looking close at the other contestants they where so worried about him. He lost his voice again after. Li Jian another contestant bought him a very very expensive Chinese medication for him so he could get better soon!

Episode 10 : 'Unforgettable Day' In Kazakh and I think some translation in Chinese to. If I remember correct he wrote the music to this one when he was 17 or 19 years old and lyrics by Oral Baisengir, who was a poet/lyricist father of a friend of Dimash. Also in this show another contestant "Terry Lin" that was about 51 years young here he considered Dimash a dear friend at this point. But Dimash started telling them al he was his father around episode 12 I think!! That is a big respect and love from his part of the world to call him! Terry was gladly accepting it. They are still that close and also invites each other to there concerts and sometimes singing this song in duet to. They sang it in Jackie Chang movie festival in 2019 and Jackie was choked in how good they were. Terry was known as an alien before Dimash and they have similar vocals to.
