This movie shouldve been nominated for so much more, sad that it took longer to get recognition
One thing that really annoys me about film award shows is you can tell many people have made up their mind as to who they’re going to nominate / give the award before so many of the other films have even been released! It’s almost like the movies released earlier in the year are way more likely to win because they’ve had more time to build up a reputation and positive word of mouth
@@jeremywoodfin2885 Many celebrities even exposed the awards saying that they are all scripted and a fake, its all rigged.
I think thats because te oscars most of the time are focused on american films. thats why they have best foreign film. its sad that is not nominated in that category too
It should've been on the Adaptation nomination, Oppenheimer and Barbie were nominated in too many places any way
It's nominated for alot of rewards in Japan but here in America it didn't great crap expect VFX which is sad, I was so pissed actually but when I heard few weeks after it was nominated alot awards in Japan I was very happy.
Damn, it's so cute when he carries a figure around.
He presented the figure to Spielberg at the event.
Man it would be great if it was nominated for Best Picture too
You have to submit a movie(s) for specific categories and it’s considered by the academy. I believe that’s why it wasn’t considered for Best Foreign Film. They didn’t submit it for that category.
@@BullGator-kd6ge still though I wish it were nominated for Best Picture
And best international film
IT WASN’T?
@@Jackseyez that too
No ma'am...he deserve it, not because a fans of godzilla...but he deserve it because his work is so good.
Exactly!🙌🏼

It'd be funny if he brings one to the Oscars lmao.
@@a_fine_edition2746 he most definitely is

I love how he keeps carrying the toy around. More directors should do this regardless to what movies they make
So if someone does a movie about Hitler should they carry a Hitler action figure around with them?
@@Waaris_771what does a director carrying a hitler action figure have to do with any of this

@@Waaris_771 if they make an action figure of him. Sure
I love how this man carries the little goji toy with him everywhere lol
And has Godzilla shoes.
It sucks he had such a small budget compared to garbage like the Marvels but yet ran circles around them. The most deserving Oscar this year outside of Downey
It also helps that we aren't bombarded by two to three Godzilla movies every year...
You woke trash people
Shut up you hater can you make a better movie then him can you
I feel like when film productions get bigger budgets the movies get worse
The economy of Japan does not allow to have Hollywood budgets. Otherwise, the film will not pay off, even with foreign distribution. 10-15 million is considered a big budget for a Japanese film!
As far as I know...
This movie deserves a picture of the year. It blew everything else that came out of the water.
Hope it wins in Japan
This man made a masterpiece of art. When you can get audiences and critics, both give 98% positive. When you can attract that many people by word of mouth. That's an amazing accomplishment.
For real IDK why they didn't nominated it for best pic for Osacrs, but i'm glad it got 12 awards in Japan hope it wins there, it should.

Now I just want to see Oppenheimer realizing he's responsible for godzilla lol

i agree! Who knows, maybe angirus will return after 20 years.
How about anguirus, varan, and baragon battling godzilla.
I bet more monster should be based on every incarnation and era slammed together into one design each just like Godzilla
For a 15M$ Budget, this literally is a peak movie.
The budget wasn't 15 million, Yamazaki already debunked that misconception. The actual number is unknown
@@Kaiju-bm4tsthe closest estimation is around 11 million
@@jacobsonstudiosgoji It's anywhere between 10-15 million, the actual number is unknown so any estimation is likely not the exact number

0:27 The movie was relatable to many because of the human aspect of the story, we can relate to/sympathize with the tragedy, and also inspired by the heroic actions/sacrifices. All that and showcasing Godzilla. So much better than the recent Wester movies, that's why Godzilla: Minus One was such a hit!
Takashi Yamazaki likes Legendary Godzilla cry
If there’s a sequel to Godzilla Minus One coming then it would be a dream come true
If Toho wants to
I think this movie itself is already a dream come true though
They should title it Godzilla Minus Two
@@Neoniq41 or probably Godzilla Zero maybe
It could be like a remake of Godzilla Raids Again and have a Minus One version of Anguirus fighting Godzilla
Took decades for the Big G to get a star on the walk of fame & now he's gotten an Oscar Nomination, win or lose the recognition is well deserved.
and 12 award nominations in Japan too.
Toho needs to make a short about Godzilla stepping his foot into the cement of his star on the Hollywood sidewalk. That might be amusing.
Godzilla minus one is art
Imagine Nolan and Takashi make a Godzilla movie together that be insane.
This movie doesn't deserve praise, IT DESERVES ALL THE PRAISE
Godzilla minus one is amazing.
I hope if there is a sequel they will keep the movie serious and a little grounded.

Im still just dumbstruck of how he managed to make make such a awesome and thought provoking movie with such a small budget, compared to most of the marvel movies (even tho i haven't watched all of them)
I think it would be fascinating to see him translate something like Biollante or Hedorah into a sequel. Considering the radiation fallout and how Godzilla might have affected the environment. A freakish byproduct with maybe a folklore significance. That would be cool.
I though that was Hideo Kojima for a sec😭

No se porque el señor Yamazaki se me hace bastante más encantador cuando lleva siempre su figura de Godzilla jajaja😅.
Por favor Toho, dale más películas de Godzilla a este hombre,se merece hacer mas peliculas del Rey de los monstruos
The mark of good art is that it can resonate universally, and 'Godzilla - 1' did that. Best picture I saw in the theater in 2023...
He wrote, directed and supervised the VFX. So when he says he wants to get mad at the director and the writers, he's talking about himself.
I’m very grateful that I had the opportunity to watch both the original and the black and white version of the movie. Now, I am STOKED to see this man direct the sequel with these great characters and visual effects
Toho said if they want to dude
Japan-based Godzilla getting time in the spotlight (especially in the West) is great! Hope they can keep this momentum!
I loved this movie. I think it’s the best Godzilla movie after Gojira.
With that said I hope there is not a direct sequel. I feel like the story was self contained in a single narrative. So even though it ends with the possibility of Godzilla returning, keep it as a one off and just do another Godzilla movie in an entirely new universe.
How about this, the next Godzilla sequel with the cast of Oppenheimer as characters in the movie? That would be the greatest mashup ever.
*THIS!* I'd LOVE to see this!
Please God don’t let Western actors take over the acting in Japanese Godzilla movies.
@@TigerStillGotItbrother have you seen the 60s version of king of the monsters. It’s all up to the directors and others. If this dude made minus one good wouldn’t you think it’d be the same. It’s giving that “ I HATE DUB ANIME BECAUSE SUB IS ALWAYS BETTER And it’s Japanese ” When there are some anime’s that have good English voice actors that sometimes preform better than the Japanese voice actors.
@@blueflare4139 Brother we Americans have our own awesome Godzilla movies. But there’s certain cultural aspects that are different and fit Japanese actors more. Also I’ve seen literally every Godzilla movie there is, and King of Monsters definitely didn’t come out in the 60s, it was 1956, and even then, it was just a shorter version of the 1954 Japanese original.
@@TigerStillGotIt okay I meant 56 it’s been a while since I seen it, but it doesn’t change the fact that with this director and his staff having American actors change anything about his quality if you truly feel like he did a great job
i don't usually buy movies in 4k, but this one i definitely will be!
Godzilla-1.0 was produced with only 35 VFX artists and on a budget of less than $15 million, but the resulting images are as high as Hollywood's.
This is a technique that can only be achieved by director Takashi Yamazaki.
It deserves the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director.
What's more, Spielberg gave me the best cheer.
The 96th Academy Awards for Visual Effects is no exaggeration to say that this is within director Takashi Yamazaki's reach.
not just the US was interested in that story, europe too was, it's the history of the world at this point which is why people loved it
I just love him... He is so talented, and so dedicated to film in general and Godzilla in particular... As far as I'm concerned HE is the DIRECTOR of the year!
I kind of feel it would be better if we didn't get a sequel. I think the movie went very well, told its story and ended.
Ok I want those shoes lol~ plus, I am a big fan of Yamazaki-san’s “Always” films 1 & 2! His direction on period films (showa era) are awesome!
Saw it in theaters it was incredible, cant wait for it to release to stream or DVD
I didn’t know he saw Oppenheimer. Damn, no wonder both films are so similar in theming. Imagine Godzilla Minus Two with the man himself saying “Now I am become death, destroyer of worlds.” That quote fits perfectly for Godzilla, but we’ve never seen it officially
He made the movie then saw it
I saw Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Holdovers, and Godzilla: Minus One. Minus one came away as Best Picture for me. I said it the moment I left the Chinese Theatre. Unfortunately, it was overlooked for that category.
I’m excited, and more nervous to see more Godzilla from Japan.
absolutely nailed both Shin & Minus 1 imo,
There was a ton of older Godzilla movie references right ? I mean I felt like the tons of the movie was a ode to older movies.
I hope to see another 30+ Godzilla films from Japanese creators, hopefully maybe being able to make stories across the world too. But I always felt American Godzilla was done poorly, or just not in the actual spirit of Godzilla that Toho created and I grew up with. Nowadays I think that Godzilla is Japans like natural resource, and depending on how well future projects turn out it could be something that pulls in money from everywhere, and helps continue Godzilla’s truest mission…. to bring peace and love.
The only movie I don’t own is Biollante but I’ll get it someday. Maybe soon even, it just costs a lot right now.
Thanks for making something that is core to my identity. I believe in Godzilla.
....how are the American films done poorly when their high paced action and borderline goofiness is directly compared to that of the Showa era, something created by Japan
Because you foolish American viewer it's not about all action it's about many things that's what makes it good you don't need action 24/7 there is other ways to make a movie you Americans like it because fighting and fighting
what makes this more celebratory is the fact, they didn't have to localize in a form of remake and having Hollywood actors, like other Japanese movies in the past, the Ring and Grudge

They are tones of movie with Anguirus but yeah Raids Again was the first one.
This is a man who is all in on Godzilla and the right kinda guy to really take in the effort for a truly rewarding movie experience that he made.
That perspective he gains from doing each of the roles and getting mad at how his other "selves" do things in other roles is so important. So many people get locked into one role and don't understand how to communicate to the other teams they work with, or even see the problems that other roles know are obvious.

There's no need to make the sequel an international cast, all the big movies in hollywood already do that. It's actually refreshing to see an all Japanese cast and they should continue to build on their own.

Este director si sabe como se hace una película que entretiene, aprendan Hollywood.
What made G Minus One really good is the 'human stories' told and not just a big monster stomping on things. Watching how it was created and made, makes Hollywood look foolish with their bloated staffs, budgets, and CGI that only gives one headaches trying to watch it. A sequel is very possible because of the ending....he was regenerating. But to give the story a better feel, that immediate regeneration power needs to go away.
3:45 I thought she wanted to say kaiju.
Some of this year's super bowl commercials cost more to make than Minus One.

I like this guy. He seems really genuine. Charming fellow.
Godzilla fans need another great Godzilla movie.
It can be assumed that the G-cells aided Noriko's healing, given her likely severe injuries. If she were to transform into a Godzilla-like hybrid, one would expect her appearance to have changed; however, she still looks like herself. This suggests that the G-cells possess regenerative capabilities.

(To Takashi Yamazaki, if you're reading this?): Thank you Takashi Yamazaki for give us loyal Godzilla fans something truly new, terrifying, and also memorable that keep us smiling for a long time. I can't wait to see your next upcoming "Godzilla: Minus One" sequel when it finally comes out. I wonder if we'll see another heroic version of Godzilla's main arch rival King Ghidorah show up to save humanity from Godzilla's wrath, like how he did in "Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters all Out Attack" (2001) film. I really really really wanna see King Ghidorah being seen as a more heroic and benevolent Guardian Monster, instead of a rampaging villainous Destroyer of Worlds (like his previous and current counterparts) because King Ghidorah himself has been seen way too often in many films, anime, video games, comics, manga as a Bad Guy in my honest opinion. King Ghidorah needs more heroic spotlight in my opinion.
