There’s a bit of learning curve on the first dozen flight or so. Once used to it though, one can land more consistently in FPV than line of sight. Just like full scale landings.
Touché! I already sit in the gap between the main fence, but there’s a section the extends out and blocks transmission to that far corner of runway. If standing, the TX antannae would be clear of the fence.
Very awesome videos on FPV planes! I've been flying FPV quads for years and am a full size airplane pilot. SInce we have no paved RC fields anywhere near I want to Pan/Tilt FPV a Eflight DRACO 2.2 and fly from grass. Those little OLED cockpits displays are awesome! I might want to add that too. Have to build my own Ardulino head tracker for my DJI goggles since External Trinty modules no longer sold.
@@motionsic Thanks. May take me awhile to get it done. I have the DRACO plane with everything except Eflight Spectrum Rx/SAFE since I plan to put in MATEK FC, INAV with more sensors, DJI Air unit and use CRSF or ELRS for Tx/Rx. Clif Brown Good progress! If you have not found a good pan & tilt camera mount in another month, check back here as I might have one that could fit Draco nicely then. Good luck on your search.
Great flying and chase footage! Very nice clear view without the windshield and without a propeller. Ironically, the refrain of the song in the first half is : Ein jeder Propeller singt surrend das Lied: Wir schützen die Sowjetunion! Every buzzing propeller sings the song: We protect the Soviet Union! Aviator song of the ex "Democratic Republic of Germany". Back in the early Nineties, the West German Luftwaffe got some 20 Mig 29 but they were later sold to Poland. Those Russian jets just look awesome!
Very nice of you to chime in and provide translation and historical context Tim! I agree, the Russian jets are relatively easy to fly and has superior aerodynamics. My gimbals will be available for sale in another couple of months, and would easily allow FPV flyers to position camera at scale pilot eye level. After which offering the reflector sight would make more sense. I am also exploring ways to make clear compound curve canopies. It’s just wrong for jets to be flown with open canopies...
@@motionsic For canopies, either use 0.8 - 1mm thick PETG or PMMA. PETG is less brittle, PMMA (acrylic glass) has excellent transparency. When you make a plug for vacuum forming, don't polish it to high gloss, rather use a slightly sanded plug. High gloss plugs will not let air escape during vac forming which results in a bad surface quality. But I guess that neither material will provide fully satisfying results on a MIG 29 in that small scale because the curvature is significant. A Mig 21 with its flat front windshield would be better suited for onboard camera use.
