At first, I thought it was interesting how starkly Dr Chichilnisky's method and description of finding purpose differed from David Goggins's, but then I realized that they have more in common than not. I think the key to discovering your purpose truly rests in the "Know thyself, be thyself, love thyself" aphorisms. Though Goggins's methods are unorthodox, he always says that one doesn't know themself until they're willing to face their demons (know thyself), that having the ability to be himself at all times without shame is liberating (be thyself), and that he learned to respect himself through the challenges he regularly overcomes (love thyself.)

Totally agree. Some people struggle with this more than others. Know, be and love thyself have taken me 10 + years of deep introspection, heartfullness (far more powerful for me than mindfulness) and energy healing. I'm not externally hugely different (only to my husband who notices how I've changed) but internally I'm transformed.

I love this clip. I have watched many of your episodes and this really spoke to me. He is a man after my own heart. I’m still trying to find my purpose, but I’m trying to live life from the heart and learning to love myself. I really love this episode. Thank you.

New epidsode this week focuses on finding your purpose with a new guest (Dr. James Hollis, not Robert Greene, both of which are good, but the toolkit would be even better)

Dr. Huberman, if you knew the scale of your work, you’d be shocked.! Originally, I’m an Iranian, and I know people have created couple of pages under the name of “Persian Andrew Huberman” trying to translate your messages in Persian…and your Persian reels are pretty famous…we adore you, appreciate you and love you so much.

Excellent discussion, interesting story. You really hit on something important for me when you talked about "know thyself, be thyself, love thyself". That's important for everybody. But in my personal experience I have often felt I've been precluded from being myself b/c of others' agendas, such as money. When you've been precluded from fulfilling your potential something is truly amiss that needs to be addressed. If you aren't allowed to be yourself, you're not going to get anywhere, nor anyone around you or folks you might work with. If you wake up one day and don't know who you are, you (and everyone else around you) might as well hang it up. In a hurry going nowhere. It's crucial for people to be allowed to "be themselves." It's a distinct possibility that those who would carelessly and thoughtlessly force their agendas on others lives to such an extent are grappling with the "love thyself" component.
Imo and experience other animals do experience music and rhythm. Maybe they simply can't express it as easily as humans can. Certainly they (as we) are all part of the rhythm of nature.
Have to laugh at his lack of neuroplasticity with respect to coffee. My neurons traverse a very well ingrained trail to coffee as well.
Dr. Chichilnisky, you're doing quite well to be able to get going on only one cup and 10 minutes in the mornings. For me it often takes 2!
Thank you for sharing this thoughtful discussion.

If u r trying to find yourself, do it by conquering yourself first instead of conquering external goals, whether career or woman, you will have your answer if u do so.
with the purest intention to heal, you will be guided safely, and u will feel safe and complete.

Song and dance is frequency, dancing and song speaks deep in to the human soul and subconscious. ☺️ dance and music is also used to communicate with the spirits, guides, ancestors and also the self. I grew up poor, I always wanted to be a ballet dancer. Due to lack of money my mom couldn’t afford it 😢so i was never able to study it. I started learning ballet 🩰 until I got older so I couldn’t really do it professionally. Must start early in youth to be professional, but every time I danced and listen to music it’s like I went def and I could t hear anything besides the music and just feel my body flowing in space 😂

What should you do if you had the "i hate learning" experience as you early on was forced to learn things you didn't want to (forced to sit still as someone who it turned out has adhd and a lower back problem that gets worse with sitting for more than half an hour) but want to learn how to love to study and learn?
Right now I only learn things during procrastination because my only motivator is stress

When I'm not doing the right thing or heading the right direction, the ease dissipates. I haven't always realized that right away, I guess because I assumed there was something wrong with me... an underlying belief that I am exceedingly capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. When I do finally realize it, start making changes, and somehow get re-oriented properly, the ease returns. Except it's more than ease, at least to me; it seems like a little bit of apprehension but buoyed by an uplifting sense of discovery waiting to happen. Like... this is a little bit scary, but at the same time, I know that this is *exactly* what I am supposed to be doing at this moment, that this new direction is the only one that makes any sense at all. The bravery to face that fear comes naturally, and it brings an energy and confidence that was missing or had disappeared. Maybe it's a dopamine thing, like the pursuit brings a joy with it.

Purpose is defined as the reason for existence. "Purpose of life" assumes and requires a Creator whom we commonly call God. You have found something to do in life that satisfies you but that's not your purpose. Our purpose is to seek the One who gave us our talents, abilities and our need for Him.
