Was the youngest member of the tribute enesemble in rochester. It was an honour to perform for him and to play some of his music the following night along with the cabs alumni.
I grew up listening to chuck i'm from Rochester NY my dad grew up with him his family bakery was a hangout for anybody who went to benjamin franklin high school his music touched a lot of people and put Rochester on the map i got interduced to drum corp in the 70's my dad was in the Rochester crusaders and later started the mighty liberators so drum corps was my life i love it we just had a show labor day weekend it was so much fun and brought back some great memories i wish i could do it again 😊
I remember going to his concert! Then hearing all the dci world playing his music !!! You changed our world CM!!! Thank you always! Your biggest fan from Syracuse NY!
George also wrote and taught the drill for the 1983 Alliance of Greater Boston. The Corp just finished out of the finals at the Orange Bowl. It was truly a pleasure to have known George. A Genius that walked among us. 40 years later at the end of the video, George is still teaching us. RIP George. You have been missed.
Between Chuck and Chick (Corea), drum corps owes a huge debt of gratitude for the music they created. There were many others as well, like Don Ellis, but these 2 really put some great stuff out for drum corps to put on the field.
This is a magnificent piece the tribute to Chuck the footage is and will always be apart of my life started training in 75 & 76 1979 & 80 hitting the field in DCI , UOEC, aging out in 81 always wanted to play Children of Sanchez
I've loved Chuck Mangione and to flash back to the 1970s DCI competition with his music. Yes, Bellavia has been a long-time favorite go to even in 2023. 😊❤
Im trying to watch this, but my Mother keeps talking about people Ive never heard of, and where they lived, and what house they built, and had kids...and so on and so on and so on
Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor! We played that in high school in 1989 and that when I was introduced to Chuck’s music. I was fortunate to go one of his concerts not long after that! Glad he was honored! Do it up Devils!!
Bummed I didn’t see Magic of Orlando 1999 - “The Magic of Mangione”. My 2nd year marching. It was a fun show. And a lot of us got to meet him when he met up with us on tour and we did a stand-still for him.
We played Feels so good my first year marching. I won a best musician award in jazz band for my bass guitar solo playing the 11th commandment. I got to meet Chuck my Senior year in high school. He and Chris were incredible horn players.
I was in a high school competitive marching band, and we used his music several times! Land of Make Beileive and Enchano. I also had the pleasure of seeing him at the Hollywood Bowl!
Played "Land of Make Believe" at my senior night in 1981 on a Getzen Eterna Flugelhorn. There is a picture of me in my high school annual playing it. The caption says I am playing... a trombone...
I recognize that first recording anywhere - Reading Buccaneers (‘79 I think?) with George Parks as drum major! Sad there was no video, but thankful it was included.
Great tribute! I remember taping the PBS broadcast of the '83 Finals to VHS. I discovered drum corps around '80 via PBS, went to my first show in '82, so it was still fairly new to me during my H.S. years. I love Chuck's music, and 'Feel So Good' was a frequent concert cover by a jazz group I was in middle school. This really takes me back!
Thanks for this video! Maybe some of our GREAT drum corps of today will DISCOVER the music of Mangione. Any takers...Blue Devils....Bluecoats....Cavaliers...Boston...Cadets...???
What, no mention of Jeff Kivett? Really? 😮 Where's the clip of Chuck saying he thought drum corps players were the 3rd trumpets from marching band? Other than that, excellent piece of video, thanks Rondo
It was an honor working on this piece and being a part of the live event with Chuck and family in Rochester.
Steve, thank you for everything you have done. I marched Cadets ‘82 😎I love Chuck Mangione and he was a big part of my early life!!
@@keith9482 Thanks, Keith.

Somehow, Bellavia just hits a soft nerve every time.

I was at the ‘83 world championship at the orange bowl, that interview happened right in front of our seats. Never forget it

Land of Make. Believe and Feels So Good - both have been big in my life. Glad to see Mangione honored!

The Jim Ott arrangement of Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor was a very great part of it all.

Steve, that was a magnicent compilation of his music by all the Corps. I expected nothing less, but it did exceed even my expectations. Well done!

This is great! DCI and Chuck, match made in heaven!

Oh My! I lucked up and ran across that on PBS, and I was so excited to see it! I loved Chuck Mangione, I loved DCI and Winterguard!

Played Bellavia and Hill Where the Lord Hides in high school.
At 5:32, how is the Freelancers' horns playing in time when they're behind the drums and can't see the drum major?
He’s the reason I picked up the horn….
BD One More Time Chuck Corea!

I am confused about the fact that Jeff Kivett played with Chuck Mangione?
Am I confusing him with Jeff Tyzik?
If so, my apologies
